Chapter 20: I Adore Babies...NOT
HER
\- Luna, you need to eat...
\- Gamma Antero, I already told you I'm not hungry!
The Alpha left days ago, right after we had sex, said nothing, and never came back. On the first night, the anguish made me cry all night, not knowing if I wanted to hug him or kill him. The next day, melancholy set in, I barely got out of bed. His absence causing a hole in my mental sanity.
Yesterday, I managed to get up, took several baths, my desire was to wash off all the scent of that son of a bitch and never speak to him again.
Today came apathy.
I just don't care anymore, who cares where he is, who he's with. I took a hot bath, put on the prettiest clothes I found, did my makeup in the style in vogue in my homeland, highlighting my eyes, put on my Hijab, said my prayer, which I even had to choose the direction randomly, as I don't know where Mecca is.
I believe that Allah, the Merciful, would prefer me to pray with my heart, even if I don't know where I am. Better than not praying at all.
As usual, Gamma was in the living room waiting for me with his jovial smile that was deeply irritating me that morning. He insisted that I eat one of the dishes that, supposedly, the Alpha, also supposedly, my soulmate, had sent for me.
I can't eat so much red meat anymore!
How I would love a four-cheese pizza, or shrimp, eggs, and cream cheese.
\- I'm worried, Luna. I understand that the Alpha's absence is messing with your hormones, but you need to consider that there's a good chance you might be with pup and-
\- I'm not pregnant!
\- But, what if you are?
\- I'm not, the cramps have already started, my period will arrive soon.
\- That's a shame, if you menstruate, it's a sign that there's no heir...
\- Why on earth are we discussing my intimacy, Gamma?
\- It's natural, you know. Female wolves also bleed, but not always like humans, only when they don't get pregnant after heat.
We fell silent, I didn't feel like saying anything else, my mood was terrible and I was determined to ignore the Alpha's existence with the same dedication he was ignoring mine.
\- I've chosen some of the young men for your ascension ceremony.
\- What are you talking about?
\- You are the pack's Luna, and when you take your throne, the great Goddess will choose the members of your guard.
\- My guard? - I asked, intrigued.
\- Yes, they are wolves who will obey only you and dedicate their lives to protecting you. As your general Gamma, I choose the wolves from the Alpha's army that my intuition indicates, but only the great Goddess will confirm the chosen ones.
\- They will obey me? What about the Alpha?
\- The Lunar army is independent of the Alpha, I myself haven't been under his command since I met you. It's kind of liberating, to be honest. Alpha Ares has a very intense and oppressive aura, yours is softer.
\- I have an aura?
\- Yes, I can feel it, it's very powerful, given that you are a born Luna, even being human.
\- Interesting... Does that mean if I order you to do something, you'll have to comply?
\- Uh.... - He looked at me, hesitant. - Theoretically, yes, but nothing that could put you at risk or disobey the designs of the great Goddess.
\- OK.... Great, I have an idea! - I stood up, smiling and excited.
\- Hmm... Luna, don't put me in dilemmas...
\- Don't be so apprehensive, Gamma, I just want you to take me for a walk! I need to see people, feel the sun on my face!
\- The Alpha might not like that...
\- And who cares what the Alpha likes or not? We are adults, with sound minds and bodies, there's no harm in taking a walk. - Come on, Gamma, time to introduce me to this pack that they say is mine to care for!
\- Alright, but promise you won't leave my side and will listen to what I say!
The young, handsome wolf pup looked at me with a solemn expression.
Poor thing... So innocent...
\- I promise! - I replied with my fingers crossed behind my back.
\- Great! Let's take a walk in the puppy park, there's a well-kept garden and Lunas like puppies, don't they?
More or less... Maybe female wolves do, but I'm not really into them. Snotty noses, crying, poopy diapers, screaming, crying, noise, tantrums, crying, childhood diseases...
Did I already say crying?
\- Of course! I love babies! - I said, already imagining how I would convince him to change our route halfway.
We followed the same path we came from, and when we reached the place with the metal pole and chains, there was no sign of Amir.
\- Hey, Gama, where the hell did Amir go?
\- The human male?
\- Yes. Last time he was chained up and all chewed up.
\- Well... I think General Igor was too strict, there was no need for that punishment, but I'm glad to know they made up and the Human returned to the general's den.
\- Seriously? - I asked, more out of surprise than anything else. - So, you mean, Amir accepted the big bad wolf?
Gama laughed at my words and confirmed with a nod.
\- Fortunately, yes. It's very difficult to resist the connection after the mark, at least that's what I hear from the elders, I haven't found my other half yet.
\- It shouldn't be that difficult, your Alpha is doing a great job keeping his distance from me.
\- Uh... - He scratched the back of his neck and made an awkward face. - Alpha Ares is a special case, he's complicated. Don't get me wrong, Luna, he's a good Alpha, but... Things happened....
\- Are you going to keep chatting or are you going to tell me what those things are? I hate people who start gossiping and then cut it short. If you're going to sin with "namima", do it right!
\- I don't really know, Luna, there's a lot of rumor and talk, but when things happened, either I hadn't been born yet, or I wasn't mature enough to care.
\- How old are you, Antero?
\- I completed twenty-one lunar cycles on the last new moon, Luna.
\- That's cool, I thought you were older. But let's not stray from the subject, tell me what you know!
\- Okay, but don't tell Alpha I told you. The pack was attacked on the same night Alpha Ares was born, his mother died during childbirth, and the previous Alpha, Ares's father, believed the pup was cursed and rejected him, claiming he had murdered the Luna at birth.
A sad story, true, but it doesn't justify the way he discarded me as if I were a piece of shit. If he didn't want to be with me anymore, he just needed to end it properly, why all this coldness?
Anyway... men...
Humans or werewolves, they're not worth a damn!
