Chapter 70
Chapter Seventy-One:
Ethan and Emily looked at each other, their faces covered in sweat and blood.
"Let's get out of here," Ethan said, his voice hoarse.
They got back into the car, and Emily started the engine.
But as they pulled away, Ethan heard a sound that made his blood run cold.
A gunshot.
He turned to look out the back window and saw that one of the minions was still alive. He had managed to take one last shot at them.
Emily was slumped over the steering wheel, blood oozing from a wound in her shoulder.
Ethan's heart stopped. He couldn't lose her. Not now.
He grabbed the wheel and steered the car to safety.
As they came to a stop, he turned to Emily, tears streaming down his face.
"Don't die on me," he pleaded.
Emily's eyes fluttered open, and she smiled weakly.
"I won't," she said. "I promised to stay with you, remember?"
Ethan nodded, relief flooding through him.
No one could tear them apart.
Not even death itself.
As they drove through the night, Ethan and Emily's car came to a screeching halt once again. This time, it wasn't because of an attack but because of a roadblock.
Ethan looked out the window and saw a group of armed men approaching them.
"What do we do now?" Emily asked, her voice trembling.
Ethan thought quickly. "We have to make a run for it," he said, unbuckling his seatbelt.
Emily nodded, and they got out of the car, taking cover behind it once again.
The armed men were closing in on them, and Ethan knew that they had to move fast.
"Follow me," he said, grabbing Emily's hand.
They ran through the darkness, ducking and dodging as the armed men opened fire.
As they approached a clearing, Ethan heard a loud explosion. He turned around and saw that their car had been blown up.
"Damn it," he muttered under his breath.
Emily looked at him, her eyes wide with fear. "What are we going to do now?"
Ethan thought for a moment, then said, "We have to find a way out of here."
They ran through the woods, trying to put as much distance between themselves and the armed men as possible.
As they ran, Ethan noticed that Emily was starting to slow down.
"Are you okay?" he asked.
Emily nodded, but Ethan could tell that she was struggling.
"We need to keep going," he said, pulling her along.
They ran for what seemed like hours until they finally stumbled upon a deserted cabin.
Ethan pushed open the door, and they stumbled inside, collapsing onto the floor.
"We made it," Emily said, breathing heavily.
Ethan nodded, relief washing over him. They were safe, for now.
But as he looked around the cabin, he realized that they were in trouble. There was no food or water, and they had no way to defend themselves if the armed men found them.
"We need a plan," he said, looking at Emily.
Emily nodded determination in her eyes. "We'll figure something out," she said.
Ethan knew that they had to act fast. They were running out of time, and the armed men were closing in on them.
"We need to find a way to contact the authorities," he said.
Emily looked at him, surprise written all over her face. "How are we going to do that?" she asked.
Ethan thought for a moment, then said, "We'll have to take our chances and try to find a phone."
Emily nodded, and they set out into the night, determined to find a way out of their predicament.
As they walked, Ethan's phone rang. He answered it, and a voice on the other end said, "I hope you're enjoying your little adventure."
It was the mastermind.
Ethan gritted his teeth, anger coursing through him. "What do you want?" he spat.
The mastermind laughed. "I want you to suffer," he said. "I want you to feel the pain that I felt when you took everything from me."
Ethan felt a sense of dread wash over him. He knew that the mastermind was dangerous, but he had no idea how far he was willing to go to get revenge.
"We'll never give up," he said, his voice firm. "We'll fight you every step of the way."
The mastermind chuckled. "We'll see about that," he said, then hung up.
Ethan looked at Emily, his eyes hardening. "We have to get out of here," he said.
Emily nodded, and they continued, their determination growing stronger with each step.
Finally, they saw a light in the distance. They ran towards it, and it led them to a small convenience store.
Ethan and Emily rushed inside, and they saw a phone on the counter. They made their way to it and dialed 911.
"911, what's your emergency?" the operator asked.
"We're in danger," Ethan said, his voice urgent. "We're being pursued by armed men, and we need help."
The operator quickly dispatched a police unit to their location, and Ethan and Emily breathed a sigh of relief.
But their relief was short-lived, as they heard the sound of vehicles approaching the store.
Ethan and Emily hid behind the counter, watching as a group of armed men entered the store.
"We know you're here," one of them said. "Come out and surrender, and we won't hurt you."
Ethan knew that they had to keep quiet and wait for the police to arrive.
But Emily couldn't bear to wait any longer. She stood up, ready to fight.
Ethan grabbed her arm, trying to hold her back. "We have to wait," he whispered.
But Emily shook him off, her eyes filled with determination. "I'm not going to wait for them to take us," she said. "I'm going to fight."
She lunged toward the armed men, taking them by surprise. Ethan watched in horror as she fought them off, her fists flying.
But she was outnumbered, and soon the armed men had her pinned to the ground.
Ethan didn't hesitate. He stood up and rushed towards them, taking them by surprise.
He fought them off, using all his training to take them down. The police arrived just in time, and they arrested the armed men.
Ethan and Emily were safe, but they knew that they had a long road ahead of them. They had to face the mastermind and put an end to his plans once and for all.
As they drove away from the convenience store, Ethan looked at Emily, his eyes filled with admiration. "You're a fighter," he said.
Emily smiled, her eyes shining with pride. "I had to fight for us," she said.
Ethan knew that she was right. They had to fight for their future, their love, and their lives.
