My eyes widen.
Oh no.
“Mia. What was the sound of that? Did you take a dump or?” Colby’s voice cracks through the door.
I winced, turning around slightly to stare at the toilet bowl. Floating and looking ready to drown in the water was one of the pregnancy tests.
I managed to have caused it to slip from my fingers when trying to pull up my jeans. It was a bad idea to have been so close to the toilet in the first place.
Now I was paying the price.
With my jeans almost at my hips, thankfully I still had one test alive and in my grasp as I use the other hand to pull it up my jeans while backing away from the toilet.
“Don’t get mad. But one of the tests is currently having the time of its life in the toilet bowl.” I winced while speaking.
“You dropped them in the toilet!” Colby blasted in disbelief.
I cringe. “I said one Colby. The other is safe….kinda.” I pinched the test not wanting my fingers to touch where my pee had touched.
“Girl you better not drop the other. I’m low on cash and there’s no way in hell I’m buying another test here again.” Colby mumbles before sighing.
“To be on the safe side just pass the test over to me. I’m less clumsy than your ass.” He snorted, knocking his knuckles against the metal of the door.
I rolled my eyes knowing he was right. Using my free hand, I crack open the door slightly and pass the test over to him.
He peeled it away from my hold and a second later cursed. “Fuck Mia. I think I just touched your piss.”
I bit my lip to stifle my laugh and closed the door back so I can actually fix my jeans on properly.
“1
Girl, did you manage to pee on the entire test?” Colby snorted and soon after the sound of a running pipe fluttered through the quiet air.
Buttoning my pants, I got out of the stall and joined him by the pipe he left open. I washed my hand while answering him. “It was actually harder than you think to get the pee on the test. I didn’t have a full tank Colby so I had to improvise by doing both at the same time.”
Colby snorted and placed the test on the sink when I closed the pipe. “How long do we have to wait again?” He

questioned.
“Around two minutes? At least that’s what the box said. “I shrugged.
Colby looks at me. “Where’s the box again?” He asked.
I raise a brow. “Aren’t you the one who took the box to read the instructions?”
“Oh right,” Colby said sheepishly and turns around to walk towards the mounted hand dryer. The box was on it.
I shook my head.
Colby grabbed the box and started reading “So two red lines mean you’re pregnant and one means you’re not. Sounds fucking simple honestly.”
He shrugged while passing me the box.
He was wrong, it didn’t sound simple at all. In all honesty, two minutes felt like a lifetime of waiting. Time seems to just run slow.
“Ready to know if you’re carrying Kade’s baby or not?” Colby asked as both our eyes are glued to the stick.
I shook my head no.
Suddenly I can hear the ticking of a clock in my head after a while. And it’s irritating and set my composure in shambles as I backed away while shaking my head.
“I don’t think I want to know Colby,” I whispered, my trembling fingers playing with the ends of my shirt.
Oh God, had one minute passed already?
Colby turns to me, his eyes reassuring. “It will be okay Mia. No matter what the test reads, you’ll be okay. I’ll be by your side, Kade will be by your side and I’m certain your parents will also be there every step of the way. You don’t have to be scared, there’s nothing to be afraid of.”
I shook my head, my bottom lip trembling. “I don’t even know how I’ll tell them about Kade and I. My mom knows about us and gave Kade only four days to come up with a way to tell my dad. He’s already troubled by it all, telling him that I’m pregnant, I just don’t know if that’ll be a good thing Colby. He’ll probably go mad.”
I blinked. This was getting too real right now. Waiting for the test to read if I’m pregnant or not. This was a good experience.
Colby shook his head. “I doubt he will go mad Mia. Look, you aren’t even sure yet if you actually are. If you are, then by all means you’ll pound your head for ways to tell them. But if you aren’t Mia, there’s nothing to worry about. But as I’ve said, we need to wait, and then we can have those wheels in your head turning.
Colby was right. It was too early to actually panic. And maybe there wasn’t anything to panic about, perhaps I may not be pregnant. Perhaps it was just a stomach bug.
It was better to live in denial for now until the lines are drawn on the stick.
I nod but still didn’t come over to look at the pregnancy test.

After a few moments, Colby questioned in curiosity, “Hasn’t it been two minutes already? It sure as hell feels like it.”
I pulled my lips inside my mouth as I shrugged, Colby looks at me with a soft expression. “Want me to look at it?
I nodded, my tongue heavy. My hand shook even more when he turned around to face the test.
He stayed silent for a moment, a moment that felt too long for me. I wanted to scream out in frustration when he hadn’t said a word.
Then it feels like someone had pulled me out of my thoughts, and it was his voice. “Well…. Mia…
I could wait no longer and rush over to him, my heart pounding furiously in my chest.
Oh God. Oh God. It was positive. It had to be. Why else would he have frozen upon seeing it?
My nerves tingled in my body, in my belly and made me sweaty. “What does it say?” I crack out through a terrible parched throat. I swallowed.
“It says-
Colby doesn’t get to finish because one look at the test over his shoulder and I knew the answer. “One red line. It’s negative.” I whispered, feeling my eyes widen.
“I’m not pregnant,” I murmured in disbelief. The weight I felt on my chest lifted until I felt lighter. I wasn’t pregnant.
Colby closes the door and fixed the seat belt. I chew my lips as I look at the messages Kade sent me. He was worried because I hadn’t showed up for class.
“Kade’s worried,” I murmured. “I don’t know what to tell him,” I admitted.
Colby’s eyes pierce the side of my head. “Tell him you’re not expecting his kid yet. And that he doesn’t have to pay for child support.” He joked.
I puffed out my cheeks. “Colby I’m serious this isn’t funny. I can’t tell him this over the phone. He deserves better than that.

Colby laughed. “We needed a little humor to ease up your tensed ass.”
I rolled my eyes but smiled nonetheless.
Colby sighs. “Okay tell him you’ll talk to him when you get back. You can’t tell him this over the phone.” He shrugged. “And tell him not to worry before he calls the cops.” He snorted.
I nodded and started typing a message to Kade. When I sent it, I put off my phone for one reason, I didn’t want to be tempted to tell him what was going on because I was very nervous to actually tell him everything face to
face.

With nerves bubbling in my belly I turn to Colby slightly. “Can we cruise around until it’s lunchtime? I don’t want to go back yet.” I admitted. Even though I wasn’t pregnant, I was still so very nervous to tell Kade about the
scare.
How’d he react?
Would he be angry that I hadn’t told him sooner?
Will he hate me for keeping this away from him?
“Well, I do feel for some pizza. Car picnic?” Colby broke my train of thoughts with his suggestion.
I smiled and nodded.
Everything wasn’t simple. Even though the test clearly showed I wasn’t expecting. Still, nothing seemed to be simple. My life felt even more chaotic now that I had to face reality and actually tell Kade what had been going on with me.
Colby and I entered the school. The security surprisingly didn’t say anything, in fact he pretended to be occupied when he saw us passing through the doors.
“You’re nervous,” Colby said leaning down to whisper in my ear.
I didn’t have to nod for him to know my answer. Sighing, he wraps his arm over my shoulder and squeezed me to his side as we passed a few lingering students in the hall.
It was lunchtime now and most students were probably in the cafeteria. And that was exactly where we were heading in the hope Kade was there.
Of course I wouldn’t tell him about everything now, I needed to act like everything was okay, which everything was, so he wouldn’t worry.
But when we reached the doors, my heart started pounding. I reassured myself that I wouldn’t have to tell him now. I can let him have his lunch in peace.
Colby opens the doors and pulled me inside. My eyes automatically went searching for Kade, sporting his dark hair quickly.
His head was down and his eyes were glued to the phone on the table just beside his tray.
Colby pulled me along with him.
I chewed my lips as we neared.
I didn’t fail to notice that the table was already occupied with jocks and cheerleaders. Especially Brianna who surprisingly wasn’t seated beside Kade like she tried to usually.
And what also surprised me was that as soon as her eyes connected with mine, she rose from her chair and with a false worried look on her face, rushed over to Colby and me.

I froze and so does Colby who muttered out. “What the fuck?”
Het actions had drawn Kade’s attention because he lifted his head and his eyes burn through mine. “Mia?” He breathed out, not even caring that everyone was here as he rose from his chair.
But he was too late, Brianna had beat him to me and she squeals. “You didn’t go to kill the baby did you?”
