Chapter 69 : I Crave Them
Chapter 69: I Crave Them
Sophie
I was sitting in the backyard, finishing up the smiley when I felt someone sat beside me. Callan spread his legs in front of him, balancing himself in his forearms as he looked at me.
“What is so special about you?” He asked.
“I am pretty.” I replied.
“I am so good at making oil paints and I made cool jackets. I am good with fashion and I read half of the time I breathe and I make amazing sketches.” He chuckled.
“That answered my question.”
“And I am drunk." I added, looking down at the small canvas that was on the ground which was illuminated by the light coming from inside the house. Every ten minutes, a man rounded the garden with a big as heck gun in his hand, this felt like a prison except they had good cookies here. Did they have cookies in the prison? I would have to ask my father if he ever agreed to meet me again.
“What are you making?” He asked.
“Smiley, I promised Angelo I would send him a picture.”
It was nothing but a yellow circle and a smile with red color and eyes with black. It was pretty, not my best work though.
“It looks good.” He complimented and we sat in silence for a while.
“Do you want the smiley?” I asked, breaking the silence.
I was so drunk that my head was spinning, I laid down on the grass, handing him the canvas. He nodded, looking down at it.
“Are you sure you want me to have it?” He asked and I nodded.
“You can put in your torture room.” He laughed.
“You are a crazy drunk.”
“You gave me too many beers.”
“But I only gave you four and I drank seven. I didn't know how you managed to get drunk so fast.”
“I don't like wasting alcohol.” I huffed.
“It's not my fault that I am overweight, higherweight and darkweights.” I giggled.
“So, is it my fault that I am darkweights?” I hummed.
“You are so scary.” I closed my eyes.
“You don't sound scared right now.”
“Because, I am a crazy stupid drunk, I have no idea what I am even saying right now.” I felt him lay beside me on the grass, good distance away.
“How did the Rizzos meet you?” He asked.
I kept my eyes because the glare of the light was too much.
“A few years back in a cowboy bar. I bought them beer.”
“Sure,” he chuckled.
“What was Luciano like back then?” He asked.
“He had a large mustache, a large beard and he didn't have any money.” I sighed dramatically.
“I lend him a hundred, he is yet to pay me back.”
“What about Adriano?”
“Oh, he was homeless but he was nice so I let him stay in my condo. He didn't have any tattoos though, not much prettier without them.” I grimaced, opening my eyes because it felt weird talking with them closed. I kept them fixed on the sky because I knew looking at Callan would make me scared again. Out of the brothers, he seemed the scariest. He chuckled again.
“And what about Angelo?”
“That poor guy.” I sighed.
“He was looking for a job so I gave it to him. He worked on my farm for two years and finally made enough money to go on a world tour with his brothers.”
“You saved their lives, Sophie.” He said and there was seriousness in his voice that I didn't register. I giggled.
“Sure I did.” I looked at him, he had sat up and in his hands was a knife, twirling around his long fingers.
“You have a good professor at school, don't you?” He asked if I frowned at the sudden change of subject.
“Which class do you love the most?”
“Art history,” I replied and he hummed.
“Is the new professor good?” He tilted his head.
“I liked the old one better, he was better at teaching.” I replied.
“Oh, what was his name?”
“Alinco, I don't know his first name.” He hummed again, taking his knife out.
“Was he good to the student?” He continued.
“Yes, he was professional but Sarah hated him though.”
“Your friend?”
“Yes,” I nodded and closed my eyes because my head felt heavy.
“Can I sleep here?” I asked.
“I can pick you up and put you in the bed.” He said, I wasn't sure if I was okay with that.
“Unless you want to stay here for the rest of the night. I am sure there are snakes in the woods.” He muttered. I extended my hand towards him.
“Pick me up.” He stood up and picked me up bridal style.
“You are an idiot.” He said.
“Why?” I asked, he was nice and warm but I wanted the Rizzos to hold me close.
“For not fearing us.” He replied.
“You are an idiot too.” I returned back.
“Why?” He asked.
“Because you think I don't fear you.”
“If you are scared of me,. you wouldn't have said that.” I closed my eyes as he climbed the stairs.
“I am drunk, cut me some slack, capo.”
“That was such a bad pronunciation that everyone fingered it right now.”
“You are so dramatic, did you take a drama class in high school?”
“I live with Lucas, Sophie. No classes top that.” I felt him open the door and then he laid me on the bed. I kicked my shoe off and pulled the covers on me.
“Goodnight, send a picture of the smiley to Angelo, please.” He nodded slowly.
“Picture of the smiley to Angelo Rizzo, got it, goodnight.” He said, walking out of the room and closing the door behind him.
I was woken up in the middle of the night because of my phone ringing. I groaned, reaching to my nightstand table to grab my phone. Callan or someone else must have put it there. I picked it up, I attended the call, bringing the phone to my ear.
“When are you going to tell me that you do online classes now?” He bellewed.
“In a minute, you beat me to it.”
“Sophie Taylor, your college is not a joke.”
“I am not laughing, mother, am I?” I sat up. I could faintly hear the sound of rain coming from outside. It was raining and there was no freaking window in the room.
“I saw some pictures of you with the Rizzos brothers at the museum. What are you doing, Sophie?”
“I am sitting right now, covered in a blanket and it is raining outside. The weather is quite nice.” My head was pounding as if someone was hitting the inside of it with a hammer.
“You know what they are, right?”
“Yes, I do.” I replied and there was silence on the other side.
“They are powerful men, Sophie. They don't come with peace.” She said, I hung up as my head started pounding more.
I know they are powerful and dangerous yet, I still crave them.
