Chapter 22 Finding his answer
Auren
I slide my hands into my trench coat as I reach the riverbed. A shaky exhale leaves my lips as I watch the moonlight shimmering on the glassy water.
"I'm here now. You can come out," I breathe out.
The water ripples at the center. Vibrations shoot from the water, and straight to my core, making me all the more irritated.
"Just come out simply, will ya?" I hiss through my teeth, rolling my eyes.
A slender figure, slowly emerges from the water. Flowing black hair reaching her waist, and covering her eyes. A piece of shimmering fabric is wrapped around her chest, and hips, exposing her perfectly sculpted core. Her skin is almost as pale as the moon's.
"Lyra," I stoop down and reach out for her hand.
She gives it to me, and I gently kiss her knuckles. She is Lyra, a river nymph.
"You rarely visit me, Auren. So I'm supposing whatever is behind your visit is something that has shaken you real bad," she smiles sweetly at me, placing her hands close to my feet.
I rub my head, "I had no choice, Lyra. This strange girl saved me from dying, and all of a sudden my wolf left me the minute she touched me."
Her lips turn downwards. "Does she have some sort of magic?"
"I don't know," I grunt, rubbing my temples, "I do know that she healed my wounds. After that, I couldn't feel my wolf anymore."
Lyra exhales, "I've never heard of this. A Lycan's wolf leaving his body just because someone touched him?"
"She's not just a someone; she's strange. A seer told me she's from the family of some special healers or something," I plop my butt on the ground.
"Oh dear. I can't do anything about this," she touches her lips, slightly shaking her head.
"Don't you have any magic of some sort? Some spell that'll help?"
"You should consult your moon goddess, there's nothing I can do," she shakes her head.
Frustration shoots through my blood, my eyes almost seeing red. This is looking bleaker than I thought it would.
"So I'll never get my wolf back?"
She swirls backwards, "If you have already consulted a seer, and he told you what to do, why do you come to me?"
I bite my lower lip, "Because I know you have your powers too. I don't care how, or whatever it takes. I want my wolf back. I'm nothing without him."
"Don't stress over it. Go do what the seer told you to. This is out of my power's jurisdiction, I can do nothing," she slowly sinks back into the water.
"Lyra? Wait! You've always helped me, why can't you help me now?" I yell, my face burning with rage.
She doesn't respond. She just sinks back to the bottom of the river.
"Fuck it. Fuck it all," I clench my fists, veins popping all over my neck.
"There must be something I can do," I get back to my feet, "I have to get my wolf back," I palm my face, dragging it down.
"Boss? What did she say?" Raze's voice fills my ears.
I force myself to stand up, looking over my shoulder at him, "She can't help."
"What should we do? Shouldn't we look in other places? We can't give up just because she can't help," he continues.
Ah, Raze. My most trusted man.
I take a step towards him, then place a hand on his shoulder, "You're my most trusted man. What do you think I should do to her?"
He hesitates, his eyes widening slightly, "B-boss, I can't say anything."
"Don't worry, my boy," I give his shoulder a little squeeze, "just tell me what you think."
He clears his throat, his eyes falling to my feet, "I think you should be patient with her. She probably doesn't understand what's going on, and we would rather not scare her. She's still a naive little lady."
"What do you mean patient?" I step away from him, arching my brow.
He swallows hard, "I mean.. g-give her some time. Maybe with time, your wolf could come back to you naturally, or we'd eventually find help. Please don't take out your aggression on her."
I place a hand on my chin, rubbing it in thought, "Patience.. patience. How much more patient can I be?" I hiss through my teeth.
"Just a little more time sir."
"Haa. Fuck it all," I swirl around on my feet, placing my hands behind my back.
"Boss, we have an hour left till you're supposed to return home."
I dig my teeth into my lower lip to stop me from cursing out loud.
"Oh gosh, I'm going to lose it," I whip myself around to face him, "Give me my daily dose of snow— now."
Raze whips out a syringe of my snow, and hands it over to me, "Here, boss."
I push up the sleeve of my coat, flexing my arm until my veins come into view. Then I stab the needle into my vein, momentarily closing my eyes. For a heartbeat, nothing happens, then—
Boom.
Warmth explodes in my veins like liquid fire in my dry veins. It reaches my heart in seconds, slamming hard once, then twice. The rush surges upwards to my neck, climbing to my skull, exploding fragments of sweet bliss in my brain.
Euphoria slams into my body. The color behind my eyelids suddenly flare brighter than reality. My skin is buzzing with sweet, sweet electric.
Then my pupils blow wide. Sweat beads instantly on my forehead, and my back. A low, involuntary groan slips out, half laugh, half moan as the peak locks in.
"Fuck, yes," I groan.
The world suddenly feels peaceful; nothing matters anymore. The sky is brighter, the air feels more pure, I can taste the sweetness in it.
The next few seconds feel like pure bliss, as the peak locks in my veins, burning with sweet heat.
"Boss? Should we leave now?" A voice booms.
I slowly turn my head in the direction of the voice. It's Raze.
"Hmm. Let's go," I hand him the syringe.
"I hope I'm not running out of that anytime soon?" I ask, my voice hoarse.
"No, b
oss. Our stock is full."
"Perfect."
