Chapter 11 A cold night
Asha
"What are you talking about?" His silky voice drops.
"What do you mean you want to—" I pause before I spill a secret I'm not supposed to.
He doesn't know I can read his mind. He doesn't have to know.
"Oh, I mean.. it's nothing," I lie back down, my heart pounding in my ears.
"You just decide to call me a pervert for no reason?" He growls.
"Yes. You are a pervert, nothing new."
'What the actual fuck man?'
I shift uncomfortably on the mat, my sides hurting a little.
"Can't sleep?"
"Never slept on a mat, it's so freaking hard," I grumble.
"Want some help?"
"How are you going to help me?" I tilt my head slightly to look at him.
His sharp green eyes bore back into mine, causing me to shiver in my spot.
"Uh.. nevermind, just try and sleep," he closes his eyes, then flips to the other side.
'I shouldn't start what I won't be able to finish.'
His damned thoughts won't even let me sleep, oh gosh!
I just lie there in silence while Auren's chaotic thoughts keep pouring in my head.
"Damn it," I curse aloud.
"Still haven't slept?" He grunts.
"No, i can't sleep, it's not coming," I mumble back.
You're the reason, you fool; just stop thinking, ugh.
Auren flips on his side again, facing me, "Are you cold?" He asks.
I arch my brows, wondering why he asked that question out of the blue.
"Uh, not really. Why?"
He scoots closer, "I am. Mind some body heating?" He drops his voice to a whisper.
"You've been rude to me all day, and you suddenly expect me to be kind? Hmph!"
It's now my turn to flip on my side, shutting my eyes.
"Please?"
"No."
He exhales deeply, and stops asking.
Another uncomfortable silence stretches between us, save for our heavy breathing that fills the room.
"Haa," his voice echoes, "this is unbearable."
"What's unbearable?" I ask.
"I'm freezing. Where the fuck is the cold coming from?" He groans.
"I think the problem might be from you. I'm perfectly fine," I sneer at him.
"Asha, please let me come closer, I'm literally going to die," his voice turns into a pitiful whine.
"Then maybe you should. You remember the time you wanted to bash your head against those rocks and die? Now's a perfect time to die a not so painful death."
"Damn, you're so evil," he exclaims.
"Serves you right for daring to push me around like some toy."
'Hm, what a feisty little kitten.'
A small, proud smile finds its way to my lips when I read that thought in his head.
'Haa, am I sick?'
I look over my shoulder to see his back to me. He is trembling.
'I don't think I saw a blanket around, I'm freezing yoo.'
"A Lycan kingpin who can't endure a simple cold?" I laugh mockingly.
"Haha, very funny."
I sigh, feeling sorry for him.
"Alright you fool, come closer," I whisper.
He looks at me, "For real?"
"Did I mince words?" I scoff.
He faces me again, scooting closer till there's no existence space between us.
"Thank you, pumpkin," he says softly, "You're such a darling with a razor mouth."
'Her warmth is so intoxicating. I wonder if she's soft too?'
My cheeks flush red hot but I force myself to stay composed. He's so close, it's almost making me dizzy.
'Should I put my arm around her? I bet she's softer than a pillow.'
'Mehn if she could read my thoughts I'm sure she'd be so freaked out.'
What do you know, I've got bad news for you mister.
I take his hand and wrap it around my waist. I feel him stiffen beside me.
"What's the matter? Why are you suddenly stiff? Isn't this what you wanted?" My voice drops.
"If you feel uncomfortable, you can tell me, I don't want to make you feel bothered," he tries to move away, but I hold onto his arm.
"It's okay, i really appreciate the feel of a strong arm around mine," I place my hand on his, my heart erratically pounding.
I don't know why lying close to him suddenly makes my whole body shudder with excitement. My stomach flips non stop, butterflies throwing a loud party in my stomach. I can't help the way my chest flutters stupidly. I bite my cheek to stop it from heating up furiously.
You can't be this pathetic Asha, get a hold of yourself.
"You feel so soft," I feel his breath fan my ear.
"Were you expecting me to feel like a rock?"
"Can you for once not be sharp mouthed?" He buries his face in the nook of my neck.
My hand rubs his gently, feeling his veins that pop along his strong, rough arms. My heart is now pounding like a drum, my entire body prickling with excitement, and something else.. something close to– desire?
"You smell nice," he says drowsily, flipping me around to face him, "Gosh, you're so tiny, yet you have a basket mouth."
"I do not have a basket mouth," I hit his hair, "I'm just a very.. realistic girl, nothing else."
He stares at me for some seconds, his green eyes softening, "Ha. I don't blame you though. With such a small body, you would have such a sharp mouth to defend yourself," he shudders, burying his face in my neck again.
'Damn it. I'm so cold I could melt.'
I place a hand on his forehead, "You're so hot," I retract my hand as if I touched fire, "You have a fever."
He sniffles, "Fever? Ugh, I can't fall sick, not now," he groans, tightening his grip around my waist.
"You probably have been working too much. Running away from rogues, ha, your world is bound to make you fall sick."
"And I had to be stuck with you on top of all that," he entangles his hand in my hair.
"Don't annoy me, or I'll let this fever consume you," I huff, pulling away from him.
"Why are women like this? Come on, come closer," he grunts almost incoherently.
"Just sleep. When you wake up in the morning, you should feel fine."
"You're evil," he exhales.
I feel him scooting closer, and he wraps his arms around me.
"So far, you're the only lady in my life who talks back at me. It's surprising, annoying, and cool at the same time," he chuckles. A fine, rumbling sound that tickles my insides.
I bite my lower lip, shuddering at the thought of what this might lead to.
"Goodnight. Have some rest, and please don't come any closer," I roll to the edge of the mat, my cheeks flushing red hot.
'She is interesting, and it tickles me.'
Ugh, why can't his thoughts just shut the fuck up?
