Chapter 6: CHAPTER SIX- NEW ASSISTANT.

~Mira’s POV~

“What’s wrong with you?” Laura finally voiced out as the glance she threw at me deepened.

“Sorry. Don’t feel so good.”

Laura’s face contorted in concern, she placed a hand on my back and pressed the back of her palm to her forehead. “Have you taken anything for it?”

“Not yet.” I took a deep breath before speaking again. How could I have taken anything when the sickness wasn’t real? “It just started. I’ll be fine. Thanks.”

“If you say so.” She motioned to my phone screen that was still lit up with the picture of my husband or should I say boss. “What do you think? Hot or hot?” She giggled.

I bit the tip of my tongue to avoid lashing out at Laura as she listed his good features.

“Did you see his eyes?” Laura kept giggling and fawning over him. “I don’t stand a chance with him being the boss and all that but do you think he’s single?”

Her sudden question threw me off balance, “N-No!” I stuttered.

“Are you sure you’re okay?” She asked looking deep into my eyes.

“I am more than fine Laura!” I lied through my teeth as I held the urge to scream at everyone to shut up.

“What’s going on?”

We all jumped at the sound of the new voice. Laura cursed and I froze.

My husband was here. He stared right through me like I was an ordinary staff member and I burned with embarrassment when he scoffed before turning to Laura, his fingers drumming on her desk.

“No cursing in the office,” he said firmly. Sparing one look around, he said, “That applies to everyone here.”

I didn’t remember sitting but my knees couldn’t support my weight any longer.

“And who is not okay?” he asked, his face devoid of emotion.

Lumps formed in my throat as Laura passed a sorry look towards me. I didn't speak, neither did she and we weren't sure if silence would be best in this scenario.

“Me,” I finally volunteered an answer to save Laura from getting into trouble. “I’m the one.”

“What’s wrong with you?” Grey pushed one hand into his pocket, leaning forward. His intimidating aura engulfed me as I stared blankly at him.

“Nothing,” I replied. He lifted a brow. “I feel dizzy but it’s nothing I can’t handle, Sir.”

“Do you need to take the day off?”

I couldn’t tell if he was asking out of genuine concern or because it was required of him. My head shook slowly. “No, Sir. I’ll be fine. Thank you, Sir.”

Everyone's eyes were glued on us as Some stared, with pity and others with indifference.

Grey turned his back towards me without another word and I released a breath of relief. He leaned against Aurora’s desk, his voice dropping low enough to make the others lean closer.

“So,” he said with that smile he saved for performances, “You would be the one sending me coffee every morning, hope you won't slack on it?”

Aurora blushed nervously. “Sir, you know, I am not your Secretary”

“Who said anything about the Secretary?” His tone was teasing, deliberate. “It’s just coffee. Unless you’re tempted by more and can't carry out the task.”

My pen nearly snapped between my fingers. Heat curled in my chest, sharp and bitter. I forced my voice steady.

“Mr. Grey,” I cut in, louder than intended, “aren’t you supposed to be reviewing the quarterly reports instead of distracting your staff?”

The room went quiet. Grey turned his head, eyes meeting mine with the faintest smirk.

Aurora looked down at her screen, flustered.

I swallowed hard, jealousy burning behind my calm mask.

“I was getting there and you are?”

The door slid open, and Mercy walked in seconds after to give a general introduction.

“I am so sorry, Mr. Grey Anderson. I didn't know you would come over to this unit immediately." She signalled everyone to give a brief introduction.

When it got to my turn, I forcefully called out my name. “Mira…” I was still pissed at his last statement. The question was clear that he didn't know. “Evans!" I completed it.

I looked away from Grey but caught the slight frown on his face as I called my last name.

If he was so comfortable acting like he didn’t know me, why was he pretending to be upset?

“Mira is the staff of the month,” Mercy offered after the introductions were done. “And I will highly recommend her to assist you as you settle." She added.

I rolled my eyes at her suggestion. It was nice of Mercy but I don't think my husband cared about my achievement.

"Fine, I hereby appoint Mira Evans as my personal assistant!” He declared with a sly smirk at the corner of his lips.

What was he up to? Wasn't Aurora going to be his assistant?

“I..I!" I tried speaking but it might have been my imagination as I caught Grey’s curt nod before he left the office. When the door shut again, I began to breathe normally.

“I think the boss hates you,” Laura said as she walked past my table.

I threw a paper napkin at her head and she laughed as she ducked the flying object.

“Sorry,” Laura murmured. “It’s my fault.”

A corner of my lips twitched. “Not at all. It’s fine.” I replied as my eyes darted to the phone on my table.

I lifted the phone closer, squinting at the screen, just to be sure I read it right, the message blinked back at me as it glowed on the screen. “Hey princess, how are you doing?”

My stomach dropped. Oh no. Heat rushed to my face as I clutched the phone tighter. I opened my mouth, already kno

wing I had a lot of explaining to do.

It was Micheal!

Of all people, why did it have to be him?

Shouldn't he be out of the country? But the number…

“Oh no!” my mouth fell open.
