Chapter 13
Chapter
I walked out of the office, not bothering to answer his call. He could fire me for all I cared. I had taken more from this job than it had to offer.
I cleared my desk myself.
Instead of waiting for them to do it for me, I might as well do it myself.
I stopped at the box of doughnuts, remembering the real reason I even bothered to come to work today.
I grabbed them and walked all the way to Anna’s department.
She wasn’t expecting me, so she had no time to escape.
"Hi,” I said from behind her.
“What do you want?” she scowled, standing up from the chair, ready to leave.
“Anna, can we just talk?” I said, though she seemed not to be listening.
“Last time I checked, I had nothing to say to you.”
“I brought you doughnuts.” That seemed to stop her in her tracks for a bit.
“If you think you can buy my friendship and forgiveness with doughnuts, then you have another thing coming,” I replied, smiling at the reply. I knew her too well to know that that comment meant that she had softened up a bit.
“Can we talk?" Please?” .
“Fine, but make it quick." "I am busy.”
“Look, I’m sorry that I wasn’t a better friend and made you feel like that all along. But I really do appreciate all you do, and I want you to know that I don’t take our relationship for granted. I also appreciate how you want me to get over George quickly, but this is something I have to do on my own. "As for the secrets, I’ll try as much as possible not to keep them anymore; just don’t be mad when I don’t speak; it’s more for your own safety than mine.”
She looked at me, contemplating whether or not to accept the apology.
“forgive me?”
“Fine! Just don’t push me out as much. "And you have a lot to cover as to why you weren’t alive,” she jokes, causing me to laugh.
After some catching up, more from her side since I couldn’t really tell her anything from my life, I mean, it’s not like I could just be like,
"Hey, you know, I got attacked by a group of vampires one night and got saved by a wolf." Yeah no. That would not be possible.
“Anywayyyyyy… You know that cute guy on the fourth floor? She squealed.
“Anna, what a cute guy?” I rolled my eyes. She always had eyes for a new guy every week. It was now a normal thing.
“The one that just got hired." We entered the elevator with him one morning! "Remember when you were hyperventilating?” She looked at me with wide eyes.
I froze
I knew exactly who she was talking about. It was the vampire that attacked me the other day, or at least one of them.
“Yeah, what about them?” I looked at her, trying to keep a straight face.
“He asked me out!” At this point, she was jumping to the roof and back.
“Anna…” I held my tongue. I had just reconciled with her. I didn’t want her to get mad at me.
"What do you think of his cuteness?" "Goshhh” she sighed.
She looked like a love-sick puppy.
“Anna.” I tried again.
My tongue didn’t seem like it wanted to say anything.
It was muted.
“I know right, he leaves me speechless most of the time too, like, no kidding, he leaves me blacked out,” she giggled.
“He is drinking you!” I looked at her with wide eyes. Unfortunately for me, she didn’t get the term and swatted me in the arm.
“You nasty mind,” she said, and looked around to see if anyone else was looking. “We actually haven’t done that yet. We were thinking of doing it tonight. We are going to the love hotel down the street, you know, something not too over the top and then something not so casual. I can’t wait! "I think he is the one, Ely,” she said with dreamy eyes.
I felt bad for her. I couldn’t outright tell her that he was trying to lure her out for something, and I couldn't just break her heart this way.
“Anna, I don’t think that he is right for you.” I watched her slowly come down from her romance-stricken face and then look at me with confusion first, then... Anger? “Something just feels off about him,” I continued, trying to convince her.
“Of course,” she scoffed with so much sarcasm.
“excuse me?”
“You always complain about the people I have an interest in."
"Anna, come on! "You have an interest in a new guy every damn week!” I was annoyed that she was not listening to me.
I was trying to do this for her own safety!
“You know, maybe if you just...” she held her breath. “I just got together with you, and I am not here to fight." So you know what? Let’s just leave it at that. I am going for this date, and you are going to be happy for me. Period!” she smiled. I could tell that the smile was fake.
“Fake smile,” she bumped into playfully, and just like that, we continued joking around till it was time for closing.
Ian texted that he was going to be running a bit late and apologized for it.
I rolled my eyes.
"Great, I should have just followed Anna.” I said, but she stayed back.
You might as well look for a house in a place that I could never dream of affording.
Half an hour later, Ian texted me to say that he had arrived. I bolted as fast as I could.
“Hey, sorry I am late." There was…”
“The love side hotel, can you take me there?” I cut him short. I was damn sure that the guy didn’t just want Anna because he liked her. I knew there was another reason, and I was going to find out why.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa,” he said, looking at me with disapproval. “There would be no going to any hotel! "I literally just told you to give Eric a chance!” He had this look of betrayal on his face.
I could only roll my eyes at him. “A friend of mine is there, and she might not be there anymore if we do not hurry!"
"Oh, thank Goddess, I thought...
“Hurry!” My mind was going a mile per hour. What if …
I shook my head to remove the thoughts.
“She is safe; I am just overthinking it." "There's nothing wrong,” I said to myself over and over again.
I didn’t even wait for him to pack the car fully before I jumped out of it.
“Hi, I’m looking for an Anna Lesley."
“I’m sorry, miss, but we don’t vibe out information about our..."
“We are to have a trio!" "And I lost my phone, so I don’t have the information.” I lied quickly. I heard the growl at my back but ignored it.
"Oh, okay,” she typed in the room number, and then gave me the keys. I ran to the room, not even bothering to answer.
Halfway to the room, I heard screams, and they were not pleasant ones.
