Melissa's POV
The next day came pretty fast, I woke up only to find the other side of the bed empty, there was no grave of Nelson in the room and I couldn't help but feel very relieved about it.
Patricia came in, helped me with my bath and a few minutes later, I found myself staring at my reflection in the mirror as Patricia gently brushed my hair down.
"You look very beautiful" she complimented as I couldn't help but smile at her words. I was already used to Patricia compliments, she doesn't hesitate to compliment me in any situation she finds herself, something I appreciate a lot.
"Thanks" I replied with a fixed smile on my face.
"You look beautiful too," I admitted.
"No Ma'am, I don't" she shook her head in disapproval, "Most werewolves in the pack think that I am very unattractive" she replies, a look of sadness buried in her eyes.
I couldn't help but turn around with wonder," Why will they think like that? You are indeed beautiful and you have to believe me when I say it" I admitted very seriously.
Indeed she is pretty, I noted this right the first day I met her.
A blush crept on her face.
"What rank are you?" I suddenly asked her, now that I know things concerning the different werewolves rank, it won't be bad to know what rank she belongs to and learn better from her.
Patricia's eyes lit up in Surprise at my question.
"I am from the Omega's rank" she replied softly, still brushing my hair.
"Oh I see…" I paused with thoughts swirling through my head, "You are from a notable rank I must say '' I chipped in with a nod.
She chuckled, "Well I won't see it in that way, I am just a maid here in the pack"
"How old are you?" I implored.
"Eighteen" she replied to my surprise.
She is just the same age as me and knowing the fact that she serves me with all respect really baffled me. Right from the start back in my father's house, I wasn't used to the life of getting served but the one serving my step mother and sister. Most times,I couldn't help but think about them, especially my father. I miss him so much and hope that I will be able to see him again.
Is it even possible?
Will I ever visit home again?
How is he faring?
He must be really worried about me since it's already been a month since I got married to Nelson, far away from my father's reach.
It hurts my heart so much and I couldn't help but pounder if he thinks about me the same way I do.
My father has always been there to defend me against Sofia and her mother's torment as they try all their possible best to make my life very miserable In a way that really hurts me.
What about Sofia?
Is she married now?
Maybe to a rich reputable man who isn't a beast like mine
I do wish her the best but she had never done the same to me. She had always hated me, hated my existence that even the sight of me disgusted her to her bones.
I don't blame her, she had always accused me of stealing her spotlight in father's life. She always hates it when father praises my beauty and humility. It hurt her deep into her bones to the point that I am certain she can do anything to get rid of me.
A plan of getting me married into a strange world entirely, a plan that really came into play.
I sighed deeply with the thoughts stuck in my mind.
"Are you alright Ma'am?" Patricia asked with so much concern buried in her tone.
I smiled warmly at her, "Yes I am, it's just thoughts, nothing else" I replied warmly.
A knock on the door alerted us. At that point, I knew it wasn't Nelson, this was his chamber, he didn't need to knock to have access to it.
"Melissa" I heard Anabelle call from outside.
Quickly, Patricia walked towards the door, opened it and Anabelle walked in filled with smiles.
"Where is my pretty friend?" She asked very quickly as she walked towards me, spreading her arms wide open for a warm hug.
I couldn't help but smile, it felt so good to see her and to be honest, she is part of the reasons why I don't feel so left out and strange in here, her and Conri makes my life worth living.
Patricia walked out of the room leaving us.
"It's so good to see you, Anabelle," I noted, hugging her with smiles all over me.
Anabelle's eyes sparkled with joy, she looked very excited in a way that I couldn't help but notice. It surprised me but at the same time, it made me really hopeful that good news might be nearby.
"You look so happy Anabelle, what are we celebrating?" I asked as we held hands.
Anabelle sat next to me, she smiled in a way that I couldn't help but notice the dimple hidden on her left cheek.
"This looks tells me something different Anabelle" I teased and she giggled at me.
"How do you feel now?" She asked, trying to change the subject but I was not buying it.
"I am fine okay, as you can see, I am better than before, all thanks to you. You know that I won't be able to do it without you" I noted feeling very grateful.
Anabelle smiled sweetly, "Come on,what are friends for. There is nothing to thank me about, I did what anyone could have done and I am certain that you will do the same for me if I should find myself in your shoes" she noted raising a brow, "Or won't you?" She teased with glittering eyes.
I couldn't help but laugh at her words.
"Of course I will. Now, come in, do not change the subject. Tell me why you look so excited this morning. It's like another different body has taken over you" I countered, eager to hear what she has to say.
To my surprise, Anabelle blushed so badly that I knew at once that a man was involved.
"Oh goodness! Are you seeing someone?" I gasped in excitement.
Anabelle squeaked in joy. "Yes I am," she admitted.
The look in her eyes shows that she is indeed in love and I felt so excited for her.
"That's good news!" I exclaimed, very excited. How long have you been seeing him?" I asked.
"Well…" she dragged her word and began to play with her hair, "We have been seeing each other for a while now".
"What's his name?"
"Jeremy," she replied with a smile.
"Has he visited you here in the royal house?" I asked very curiously but to my surprise, the smile on Anabelle's face vanished, a worried and sad expression replaced it. At that point, deep confusion overwhelmed me.
"What's wrong?" I implored but she said nothing and got up to her feet looking away from me.
"Did I say something wrong?" I was so puzzled.
She shook her head In disapproval, "No,you didn't Melissa" she paused, "It's just that…"she sighed deeply turning around to look at me.
First, she glanced at the door like she was afraid someone could walk in and hear us discussing.
Her body movement alone told me that something isn't right. I got on my feet and took a step closer to where she stood.
"Promise not to speak a word about this to anyone" she said sternly at me.
I nodded, "Of course I won't. You are my friend, the only friend who accepted me not caring if I am human and different. Why will I tell you knowing how well this affects you" I said to her very firmly, with love showing forth deep in my stare.
"You don't understand Melissa" she held my hands, "When i say that you shouldn't tell anyone, the people I am referring to not to know about this are my brother and Conri. If they should find out about this, it's over for me and Jeremy and I love him so much to let go of him" she spoke, sadness overwhelmed her greatly.
With her hand buried in mine, I stroke her hands. "You can be rest assured that your secret will be safe with me" I noted, really assured that I won't speak a word of what she is about to confide in me.
