Chapter 135

She was the woman who took Jayden away when he tried to speak to me? Her face doesn't look familiar.

"You do not remember meeting me. Do you?"

I shook my head. I did not.

"I can tell you did not."

"Are you a werewolf?" I asked. "Jayden told me he is."

She smiled. "Jayden is but I am not. I am something different."

I could tell she didn't want to tell me what she was, so I did not press further.

"Just know I am an Unusual like you," she added and I nodded.

No wonder she is in charge of the Unusuals.

"Mom, is she the chosen one?" Ariel asked and I looked at Miss Miranda.

Chosen one? Chosen for what?

"What am I chosen for?" I asked.

Miss Miranda smiled. "Don't mind Ariel. She has watched too many movies."

I could tell she was hiding something from me.

"Are you..."

"Where is your bracelet? I mean the one Jayden gave you. Did Lucian take it?" She asked.

I furrowed my brows. Could she also call him by his name?

I nodded. "He did."

She sighed and mumbled some words. I couldn't hear her; it was as if she had blocked my ability to hear her.

"I will take you both to your room, now," she said standing up.

"Don't think because my mummy likes you I will be friends with you," Ariel whispered to me.

"I do not want to be friends with you either," I snapped back.

"Control your emotions, Karen," Miss Miranda said in a calm voice.

"Yes, ma'am," I murmured.

We left the hall and headed to the room. We met a few students on the way and they all greeted Miss Miranda.

When we arrived at the door, Miss Miranda opened it, and we entered. The room was a spacious one with two beds, two working stations, and two wardrobes.

One of the beds was closer to the window and the other to the door.

"I am taking that," Ariel pointed at the bed beside the window.

I was surprised she could speak boldly and clearly.

Then why did she decide not to speak to others?

She doesn't have her hair covering her face as she did in class; she looked pretty with her hair pulled back as a ponytail.

"Karen, you will stay by the window side," Miss Miranda said, ignoring Ariel's claim.

Ariel frowned. "But I want to..."

"Karen needs the window more than you do, Ariel," Miss Miranda answered. "You won't want to make things difficult for her. Would you?"

Ariel scoffed but said nothing; not without giving me a deadly glare.

I wished I could tell Miss Miranda that I would make do with the bed beside the door; it doesn't matter where I sleep if that would bring peace between us.

"You both should settle down. In an hour you are heading back to your previous dorm to get your things." She got to the door and stopped. "Karen," she called. "You must control your emotions for the next few days."

I nodded. "Yes, ma'am."

Although I do not understand why she insisted on that, I knew it was important that I adhere to it.

Miss Miranda left, and the room became silent; I just stood in my spot, not sure of what to do next. Ariel walked past me and almost pushed me down.

She glared. "Stay away from me!"

I ignored her and found my way to my bed. I lay down on it staring at nothing; I wasn't feeling sleepy. I brought out my phone and began to scroll through.

The time moved on slowly; I wished it were time to leave already. I turned to look at Ariel to see what she was up to. I noticed she had pulled down her hair again to cover her face and was just seated on the bed with her head down.

"Ariel?" I called out but she gave no answer. "Ariel?" I called again and when she did not reply as usual, I went on to press my phone.

After a while, I heard a bell ringing and I stood up from my bed. Ariel was still in the same position I had left her a while ago. I decided to move closer to her.

"Ariel? Are you okay?" I asked.

I became scared when she gave no reply; she wasn't moving either. It felt normal seeing her act that way in class but being alone with her now makes it scary.

I tapped her slightly, and she raised her head slowly.

"Are you okay?"

She ignored me and stood up from her bed, heading to the bathroom.

I shrugged. Maybe I shouldn't have cared. I need to learn to mind my business.

I returned to my space and sat on the bed. Since I do not know what to do next, I decided to sit down and wait. Ariel came out of the bathroom and headed to the door.

"Aren't you coming out?" She asked.

I did not expect her to speak to me since she had ignored me a while ago. She did not leave either, which made me think she might be waiting for me. I stood up and joined her by the door.

She opened the door and we left the room. We met a few other new students in the hallway and we all headed out of the dorm.

Miss Miranda was outside the dorm waiting for us. She split us into four groups, leaving Ariel and me in the same group. She asked us to get into the buses according to the way she split us.

"Remember the bus you are going with. You are coming back with the same bus," she told us as we entered the bus.

I sat down beside Ariel who had pulled down her hair again.

"Do you always do this?" I whispered to her.

"Mind your business!" She snapped at me.

Her voice was so loud that the other girls turned to look at us.

"Sorry," I mumbled and I moved away.

Why was Ariel suddenly outspoken? I thought she doesn't speak whenever her hair is down.

For the rest of the trip to our previous dorms, Ariel remained in that position, and I, on the other hand, did not try to talk to her.

The car finally stopped, and we began to step out, but Ariel did not move. I decided to mind my business as she told me. I left her in the car and went down.

"Miss Karen!" I heard Kath's voice.

I was so happy to see her; I rushed to hug her.

"I thought you left already?"

She smiled. "I am leaving, but not until you are fully settled in your new dorm. I don't know what happened but there was a new rule. We help you girls settle before leaving."

I chuckled. That sounds like a good idea.

"How long will you be here?"

"Until it's time for your public holiday."

"And when will that be?"

"In two weeks."

"Does that mean you are coming with me to the new dorm?"

She nodded. "Yes, I am."
