Chapter 135 CHAPTER 135

Chapter 135 CHAPTER 135

If I didn't believe in miracles before, I do now.

The second I rolled the car into our parking place, the car gave up.

There was no fuel in, in me or in this entire situation.

Zade slept through the entire thing, his tail resting on my leg. I think holding it so it'll heal was what kept me awake because the fear of it breaking completely terrified the heck out of me.

On instinct, I parked at the back but I got down to find a way to get Zade down and I hear it.

Sirens.

Of course, something of that magnitude won't happen and the police won't be involved.

We were fighting in full view of everyone but I have no idea why they didn't break in to save us or how the police already got to us.

My only guess was that they were on Baldwin's payroll and the skies would fall before I let him or any other hurtful people get to us.

So I do the only thing I could think of, I drag my Soul Tie lover into our neighbour's house, completely blacked, his weight heavy on my poisoned spine.

Rowland immediately pulls us in, looking around at his window.

“Don't explain, I have always known you guys were different.”

“Thank you so much Rowland,” I grunt, dragging Zade, even though it was hurting his tail, which was now swollen.

“I'll go tell them to fuck off.”

“No!” I exclaim, “Don't talk to anyone until spoken to. And you don't know us. I don't want you getting into any trouble.”

“I understand,” he nods and then spends the next few minutes pacing while I situated Zade, and then used his first aid box to stitch the tail back.

The police got tired of knocking at the door and then started trying to force their way in.

“There's no way I'm going to stay here and watch them defile your home like that,” Rowland growled, and picked up his phone, storming out.

I looked at Zade, passed out and barely breathing and tears poured from my eyes.

I suspected Rowland was simply going out there to tell them to come in and I have no idea how to run.

My eyes went to the book I'd carried with me and I breathed deeply, regret coating my mind.

Maybe this whole thing was stupid and I should just return Zade back home.

After all, he shouldn't have been here in the first place.

I opened the book while gripping Zade's arm and was about to start blinking when I caught Rowland’s voice.

“Where is the warrant to search that house? I'm videoing you officers so except you have clear warrants to barge into my neighbour’s house, then you better turn around and leave.”

“These people are dangerous sir, you have to allow us to do our job.”

“I know the law officer Simon. If you don't have a search warrant, then you're not doing your job, you're an armed robber!”

My heart beat faster in excitement and I paused, waiting with bated breath.

It took a few minutes before I caught more words.

“If you see them, report them to the police for your own safety. Here's my number, it's best to reach me for a faster response.”

“I'll do my best.”

“Remember they're very dangerous Sir, don't hesitate please.”

“Like I said, I'll do my best. Now leave, you're disturbing this peaceful neighbourhood without just cause.”

Gradually, the noise began to lessen and soon, no more sirens were blasting through the city.

Rowland was back in the house with us in a few minutes.

“You should throw away that number he gave you,” I say tiredly as he shuts the door three times, “it's probably with a tracker.”

“I know, I watch way too many crime movies not to. It's trashed outside. Let me prepare the guest room for you guys.”

He goes into his room and comes out with towels and more medical supplies and begins readjusting Zade's tail.

“You'll camp here for a few days and once he's in a better shape, I have a house upstate where you guys can stay and put this one out for an Airbnb residence.”

“Wow, you already have everything planned out.”

“You guys are the first people who didn't treat me like the idiot I am.”

“Oh come on Rowland, don't be too hard on yourself.”

“I watched her walk away Alira and I let my pride win. I cheated, I'm the arsehole and I am still the prideful one. I'm shocked you didn't throw me away the first chance you got.”

“Eh, you didn't really judge us either. I'm sure you saw my scales the first time and I have seen Zade leave his tail out once or twice. But beyond being forced to be your friend, I think you're a nice guy. If you want to be happier, you should beg your wife and children.”

“There's no way Sara will look twice at me now. I've given up that hope.”

“And she'll be in her right but you fucked up so you owe it to her to try. There's nothing we can't achieve by trying. I mean, I should be dead now but we're alive because I kept trying.”

“Maybe you're right. We had something beautiful and amazing before I ruined it, so it's my job to repair what I damaged.”

“Yes. I'm just going to lie down here. Don't panic if we don't wake up anytime soon, it'll take more than a mad scientist to kill us.”

“I'll keep treating his wound then. Sleep tight Alira.”

I grab my mate's hand and slowly drift into a dark place, the one I always go to when Eruwan purges me of poison.

She's not here now and I don't have her healing pool.

So my body will have to do the work, slowly.

We probably sleep for a week, only waking up to eat but slowly, our body begins healing.

Every time I wake up, my hands rush to check on two things.

Zade's body and the book.

Rowland will fill us in on the number of policemen who have come around to probe into his house.

He's taken everything we need from our house and we are locked in his basement where no police have been able to get in.

On a day when I finally feel like I won't collapse if I stand on my feet, I hear rushed footsteps hurrying down the steps.

Zade makes a grunting sound in his throat, sensing the danger without being awake.

“They found us?” I gasped the second Rowland opened the door.

“No, but you need to see this.”

I frown but I slowly get up and follow him.

To our shared backyard.

And sprawled out for all to see, coming out of nowhere, were the rocks that littered through the dragon pens back in Drakkonia.
