Chapter 121 Mysterious Dragon Breed!
Noticing Vetter's puzzled expression, Antawana felt a twinge of boredom. She then lifted her tail, dragging Linstar along who clung to it tightly, seemingly unwilling to let go, and examined him curiously. Despite Linstar's menacing glare, he dared not utter a word and merely endured Antawana's rough handling in silence.
Vetter, having regained his composure, was left speechless by the scene but somehow understood Winters' reasoning behind isolating them for two years of rapid growth before mingling with other young dragons at the academy.
"Alright, Antawana, put him down. A newborn dragonling is still too delicate for our roughhousing. Be careful not to harm him," Vetter instructed.
Antawana blushed embarrassment and gently placed Linstar on the ground. Linstar, relieved, cast a grateful glance at Vetter but remained cautiously still, dare not wander off.
Antawana leaned in closer, continuing her observation while casually inquiring, "What were you pondering over just now?"
Vetter replied casually, "His species and what our next steps should be after adopting him."
"As for his species, I know it's an exceptionally rare and ancient dragon breed that rarely appears, and each time it does, only one is born – the Ancient Forest Dragon," Antawana revealed.
Vetter paused momentarily, then looked at Antawana with a hint of surprise. This must be knowledge passed down through her bloodline! No wonder Celine and the others had no use for the Dragon Encyclopaedia; it was incredibly convenient!
With this revelation, Vetter asked, "Is there any more specific information?"
Antawana shook her head. "No, that's all!"
Vetter sighed and retrieved the Dragon Encyclopaedia, thinking he wouldn't need it this time. But knowing the name would make the search easier.
Antawana's attention was immediately drawn to the large metal book as Vetter pulled it out. She abandoned Linstar and approached Vetter.
"I remember seeing you leaf through this when I first woke up. What is it?" she asked.
"The Dragon Encyclopaedia. It contains information on all…er, most dragon species, including flying and earth dragons," Vetter explained.
Antawana drifted off, "So, you were checking up on my species back then?"
Vetter nodded. "Or what? I thought you might make a good alchemy ingredient!"
To be honest, when she woke up, she was startled to see Vetter flipping through the large metal book with words spilling from his mouth.
"Found it!" Vetter exclaimed.
Antawana hurried over, with Linstar trailing behind. Vetter looked up at Linstar and grinned, "Your bloodline inheritance seems a bit unreliable too!"
Antawana, standing nearby, gave Vetter a thoughtful glance. Linstar, hearing Vetter's remark, wasn't afraid this time, though he instinctively hunched his neck, standing firmly on the book with a confused look.
"I…don't even know if the Ancient Forest Dragon you're talking about is me!" Linstar's voice, initially too loud, softened in fear, then continued in a soft, slow tone, resembling a newborn dragonling's.
Vetter smiled reassuringly, "It's just us three here, and since we didn't harm you initially, there's no need to be so scared."
Linstar hung his head, embarrassed. "Sorry!"
Seeing this, Vetter shook his head helplessly. Honest dragons can be easily bullied. He lowered his gaze to the records about the Ancient Forest Dragon. But soon, his brow furrowed.
"Uhm…there's not much more than what I already said," he admitted.
Antawana couldn't resist commenting, "Even Desedro's collection has so few records of the Ancient Forest Dragons."
One of the oldest fae dragons! Even more enigmatic than the equally ancient but already established Sacred Gargoyles and Dark Demon Dragons. Only three had appeared before Linstar, the fourth, and each time, they wandered alone, disappearing after a period of activity. Hence, the name Ancient Forest Dragon. Like the Green Dragon, it had a natural elemental affinity, and its spit, similarly, possessed the innate ability to drain vitality.
Furthermore, the crucial aspect was that the three Ancient Forest Dragons that had previously emerged were all formidable dragons who had ascended to the Legendary tier.
Upon witnessing this, Vetter couldn't suppress his amusement and exclaimed, "Linstar, your three relatives have all reached the pinnacle of this realm. Isn't it about time you shed your timid demeanor?"
Linstar responded with an awkward smile, his face a mixture of apprehension and bashfulness. He gazed speechlessly at Vetter.
Not to mention achieving Legendary status, he doubted whether this young one could even mature into a competent dragon!
"Hey, you guys, take a look at this!"
Vetter followed the direction of Antawana's paw and found a description of the tail of the Ancient Forest Dragon.
"Let's see... The tail of the Ancient Forest Dragon isn't actually a tree but rather a condensed mass of natural elements, similar to the crystals found on a crystal dragon. It regenerates after being severed and can be utilized as a natural attribute alchemy material. The color of the 'leaves' varies with the seasons, light green in spring, dark green in summer, light yellow in autumn, and golden yellow in winter... Is it really that magical?"
As Vetter and Antawana's eyes shifted to Linstar's tail, they noticed it was now dark green!
Under the scrutiny of the two dragons, Linstar's body trembled violently, desiring to flee but realizing escape was impossible. He stood there helplessly.
Linstar's reaction, however, made Vetter and Antawana feel a bit embarrassed, as if they were bullying him!
With a dry cough, Vetter pinched Linstar's tail and gently removed it from the book. After putting the book away, Vetter hesitated briefly before addressing Linstar solemnly, "Starting tomorrow, I'll teach you the skills every young dragon should master. This includes, but is not limited to, magic, magic formations, potions, and alchemy. Of course, the most crucial aspect is magic.
"And remember one thing! With bloodline inheritance, you should understand that no dragon aids another without a reason. I'm not saying profit is the utmost priority. Besides profit, there's also help motivated by emotions. As far as I'm concerned, you're like me, a young dragon born in Desedro, and all the help I've given you stems from that perspective. Do you comprehend my meaning?"
Upon hearing Vetter's words, Linstar nodded, but just as he was about to speak, Vetter cut him off.
"Don't rush into a decision yet! Joining the Dragon's Nest I belong to, Desedro, isn't a casual commitment. It binds your entire life to Desedro. Therefore, I'll give you the right to choose. Even if you don't join Desedro, I'll still teach you those things and oversee your growth. But I need a promise from you: until I return to the Dragon's Nest, you must accompany me and assist me to the best of your abilities!"
Vetter paused, awaiting Linstar's choice. For a long-lived creature like a giant dragon, forty years are akin to the same age in human terms. Hence, Vetter treated Linstar more as an equal to Antawana than as a young dragon.
However, to his surprise, Linstar chose to join Desedro without much hesitation.
"Are you sure? I don't think you understand the current situation. Seeing as there are only two of us dragons here, you should realize we're not within the Dragon's Nest I'm referring to. Rather, for a long time to come, we'll be in this wandering state."
Linstar looked at Vetter's puzzled face and said thoughtfully, "In my inherited memories, there's the existence of a dragon's nest. I understand what it means. I just want a home, even if I can't return there immediately."
Vetter was taken aback and then solemnly pledged, "I'll do my utmost to train you into a qualified giant dragon of Desedro!"
Upon hearing Vetter's assurance, Linstar happily nodded.
Little did he know that Vetter's promise to use all his strength truly meant giving it his all!
