I snorted coldly, "Henry, besides threatening me, what else can you do? Stop blaming everything on me. You cheated on me with her, yet you have the guts to question me? When things go wrong, you take it out on women. Henry, you're really something."
After saying that, I didn't wait for his response and hung up, tossing it aside as a surge of anger welled up inside me.
Oliver seemed to sense my emotions and jumped off the bed, rubbing against my leg and meowing as if to comfort me.
I squatted down, picked up Oliver, and gently stroked his back. "Oliver, you're the best. You never make me angry."
Oliver seemed to understand my words and snuggled into my arms, purring contentedly.
My mood gradually calmed down with Oliver's company.
Elara pushed the door open and saw my angry face, pausing in surprise. "Ms. Martinez, what's wrong? Who made you angry?"
I shook my head. "Nothing, just a madman. There's nothing much this afternoon. You can go home and work on the design drafts."
Elara nodded. "Then I'll head home, Ms. Martinez. I'll bring you breakfast tomorrow."
After she left, I wasn't sleepy anymore. Quinn had sent me a message with some areas that needed revision.
I couldn't come up with any good ideas at the moment, so I sent the revision suggestions to Elara. She also studied design and might have some good ideas.
I played with Oliver using a cat teaser for a while, and he was having a great time.
When he got tired, he panted like a dog with his mouth open. I petted his little head, picked him up, and gave him a kiss.
In the evening, Brian came to check on me and wasn't surprised to see Oliver. He routinely checked my body.
After the check-up, I pointed to Oliver and asked him, "Can I keep him in the ward?"
Oliver wasn't afraid of Brian at all. He even boldly walked to Brian's feet and tugged at his pants with his little paws.
Brian bent down, picked up Oliver, examined him, and smiled. "The kitten looks healthy. As long as he doesn't disturb your rest, there's no problem keeping him in the ward. However, you need to maintain cleanliness to avoid any bacteria."
"Okay." I breathed a sigh of relief, happy that Oliver could stay.
Brian gave me a few more instructions, and I took out the eye drops from the drawer. "Here's your eye drops."
Brian was taken aback, took the eye drops from my hand, and softly said thank you.
I waved my hand. "I was just returning what's yours."
Brian smiled. He looked quite handsome when he smiled, less cold and more gentle.
After he left, I put Oliver back on the bed. He rolled over and lay down by my feet.
I opened my laptop to look at the design drafts again. Oliver seemed very interested in my work, occasionally jumping onto the desk, pawing at the mouse, or stepping on the keyboard, leaving a string of gibberish.
I couldn't help but laugh but had no choice but to put him down and continue working.
Elara quickly replied to my message, providing some excellent suggestions. I incorporated her ideas into the design draft and sent it to Quinn.
By the time I finished, it was already late at night.
I stretched and yawned. Oliver seemed tired too, curling up in my arms and quickly falling asleep.
Looking at Oliver, a warm feeling surged in my heart. Perhaps he was a gift from heaven, appearing when I needed companionship the most.
In the following days, I stayed in the ward working on the design drafts. It was much harder than drawing them. I submitted the drafts to Quinn more than twenty times, but they still weren't approved.
Elara brought me meals every day, three times a day, all cooked by her mom. Since my mom passed away, I hadn't had homemade food.
Eating these familiar flavors, I couldn't help but feel a bit nostalgic, as if I were back in the days when my mom was still around.
Every time Elara came, she would play with Oliver for a while. Oliver especially liked her, always circling around her.
With their company, the days in the ward became less unbearable.
In the afternoon, I was sunbathing on the balcony with Oliver when an unexpected guest arrived in the ward.
