Chapter 64: Adventure Time-2
————— ▲ —————
Later that evening, Blaire sat in the passenger seat of my chrome purple Porsche Panamera.
As I drove on the highway, I kept checking the rear-view mirror, keeping a track of how close Dominic and James' men were. After our fuck-fest earlier that morning, I had begged and eventually convinced Dominic to let me drive Blaire and myself to our favourite pizzeria.
Unfortunately, I had to break my promise and disclose Blaire's pregnancy to Dominic. It was the only way he would have let me drive on my own.
I had stated that we just wanted to get some fresh air and have some time to ourselves. With a pout, I had insisted that we would be fine, stated that Jeemin, Nigel, and the other designated bodyguards would be following close behind and that there was nothing to worry about.
Gripping the steering wheel tighter, I silently scolded myself.
My stomach was in knots as I hated lying to Dominic, knowing how severe the consequences would be. Shaking my head, I became more alert. Our opening would be coming up soon, and I needed to be focused. It was now or never.
"Are you sure you still want to do this? We should be celebrating your pregnancy, not going on some rogue adventure," I gave my best friend a sideways glance.
Fidgeting in her seat, Blaire replied as she rested a hand on her flat stomach, "We can celebrate after like we planned."
"Are you sure? You seem a bit uneasy..." I said with a slight frown. Shaking her head, she answered, "No, no, I'm fine. Just a bit excited about everything else. You know, we still have to finalise everything for my
surprise reveal to James, plus we still need to find you a suit for graduation."
"Uh huh... You do know that I can tell when you're lying right? Spill it!" I urged as I glanced over at her once more.
"Ugh! I hate you... Fine! But promise me that you won't be mad," Blaire suddenly said.
My scowl deepened as I asked, "What is it?"
"Okay, so Cristiano isn't exactly by his cousin. It's actually Rosita he's coming to meet," she said before biting the inside of her cheek.
"Rosita? What the actual fuck? He can answer her calls and not ours?" I shouted, my anger suddenly rising.
Shifting some more, Blaire stated, "Well, during lunch the other day on campus, Rosita heard me complaining about Cristiano ignoring us.
Apparently, she felt so guilty seeing me upset that she confessed they had been secretly dating and she may have been monopolising his time."
"What? Why the hell would Cristiano hide something like that from us?
That doesn't make any sense at all!" I said while gripping the steering wheel harder.
Shrugging her shoulders in confusion, Blaire continued, "Rosita made me promise not to tell you, knowing you'd be upset, which is why I came up with the cousin excuse."
"Are you fucking serious? Why would you lie to me for her? I am two seconds away from turning the car around..." I muttered, but I knew why she did what she did.
Everyone knew of my temper.
To say that I would have been upset would have been an understatement.
Knowing me, I probably would have driven upstate to find Cristiano myself and confront him. But most likely after I had paid Rosita a visit and beat her with my fists for having seemingly stolen our friend.
With a sigh, I asked, "So, where are we headed instead?"
"To Milton's diner," Blaire answered, "since it's on the way to the boardwalk we won't really need to make a big detour."
Something about this just did not feel right, and I was seriously considering not to go through with our plans. However, we were already in the middle of it and I was curious about this so-called relationship between Cristiano and Rosita.
Nonetheless, I still voiced my concerns.
"I have a bad feeling about this. Are you positive that you want to go through with this? We can still turn back now," I said seriously.
Shaking her head, Blaire answered, "No, we're already out here, worst case we would have had a little fun having Jee-mi and the others chase us.
Relenting, I replied, "Alright, this better be worth it, because we're about to make our men very angry..." I shuddered slightly thinking about what Dominic would do to me once he found out what I had done.
The exit on the highway was coming up. Turning on my indicator, I got into the exit lane.
When the following vehicles turned behind me, I waited before shifting into turbo and swerving back onto the highway, only narrowly missing the barricade. There was no way that Jee-min, Nigel, and the others could follow us, at least not immediately. They would need to continue along the exit, then get back onto the highway further down.
I quickly deactivated the tracker in the car and said, "Okay, we have about an hour give or take before my jamming signal wears off and they find our location. And when they do, Dominic and James are going to cane our asses raw later."
Blaire exhaled loudly and said, "Fuck, we're so dead... I hope this will be worth it, Cristiano better appreciate how much we care about him!"
"You left your phone at home, right?" I asked, knowing that right this second our phones would be blowing up with everyone wondering where we were and what the hell we were up to.
Nodding, my best friend replied as she ran a hand through her black hair, "Yea, my heart is beating so fast! And your driving isn't helping!"
I laughed as I crazily swerved in-between cars, "Well I need to get there as fast as I can to maximise the time we'll have."
"It won't matter if we don't arrive alive!" Blaire exclaimed with a smile even as she gripped on to the door handle.
We got off at another exit, taking an alternative route to the diner. I knew that we would need to move fast as I did not want to unintentionally run into Jee-min and the others while they headed to Cristiano's cousin's place.
As we neared the diner, Blaire suddenly screamed out, "Jade stop! That's his car!" she pointed out the black Mazda 3 with unique flame designs painted on the side.
The unexpected outburst nearly made me swerve, almost hitting a parked car, "Fucking hell Blaire!" I cursed then circled back around the block again.
"Sorry," she giggled, finding humor in our little adventure.
I quickly sought to hide my very noticeable car in the furthest corner of a parking lot a few buildings down. As I locked the vehicle, I put on a black jacket to hide my Beretta M9 that was holstered against my left rib-cage.
In a last-minute decision, I decided to leave my CW9 in the glove compartment. I knew that the M9 would be more than enough and I glanced over to see Blaire checking on her own gun that was secured in her chest holster hidden by her jacket. Knowing that we were planning to ditch our bodyguards, we had made sure to arm ourselves properly.
We then quickly walked towards to the diner, but the sight we saw stopped us dead in our tracks.
