Chapter 45: My Little Hellfire-2

————— ▲ —————

The midday sun illuminated my study through the various floor-to-ceiling windows.

I was currently sitting at my desk, discussing a few important issues with Vincent. With a slight frown on my face, I appeared momentarily lost in thought. Every so often, I found myself smiling, which I would quickly hide each and every time.

The sound of Vincent's deep voice was heard in the background, and I shook my head to refocus my attention on the man in front of me while running a hand through my hair.

"I got a call from the dock this morning, the new shipment from Germany arrived," the dark-haired man spoke.

"Excellent," I answered as I sat back in my hair, elbows on the armrests while twiddling my fingers.

Tilting his head slightly, Vincent asked, "Everything alright, boss? You seem a bit... Distracted."

"Hmm..." my throat vibrated in a low rumble, "She's currently sleeping off a massive hangover in my bed."

From the twitching of his mouth, I knew that Vincent was trying his best to keep himself from smirking, as his dark eyes remained fixed on me. Of course, he knew that Jade had spent the night in my bedroom.

"I guess since she was drunk you guys didn't..." Vincent's words trailed off.

Shaking my head, I made a clicking sound with my mouth, as I answered,

"No, though she was very insistent. I'm still undecided about tonight

though, but I know that I would like to get away from the manor for a bit."

"That's an excellent idea!" Vincent expressed as he continued, "If you'll allow me to, I can set something up for the both of you. I can have Jee-min and Quintin keep her occupied for most of the day, then you both can go out later tonight."

"What do you have in mind?" I asked as I leaned forward.

"Well, going out in public isn't exactly an option, unless you're ready to let the world know that she's yours," Vincent looked at me expectantly.

"No, I want to keep her safe and hidden for as long as possible!" I countered quickly before adding absentmindedly, "If only I had been like O'Doherty and Tolstoy, so many women on my arm that no one would bat an eye to think that any of them were special."

Adjusting his cufflink, Vincent replied dryly, "Yes well, whore or not, if someone wants to harm you, they'll go after whoever they see you with, so I understand your concern to want to keep Jade protected. But she knows the life; I don't think she'd mind being hidden, at least for now."

"Yes, well, I can imagine it's only so much of seeing Blaire sitting openly next to O'Doherty she will be willing to take before wanting something similar in the future. I can never really understand the way her mind works.

All I know is that I'm not ready to put her in danger like that," I admitted. "You know what they say, women aren't meant to be understood, they're made to be loved and I know that you'll do your best to keep her safe," Vincent said before adding with conviction, "We all will."

Running a hand over my face, I nodded as I stated, "Damn right I'll keep her safe, I would burn the world for her."

A soft chuckle escaped Vincent, "Alright, let's not get too excited now, but don't worry about it, I'll confirm everything in a few hours."

"Fair enough, don't make me regret this..." I grumbled, my mood immediately serious once more, "Alright, back to business! We need to organise when to head down to the docks to pick up the shipments. Has

there been any activity from García and his men?"

Shaking his head, Vincent replied, "No. For all intents and purposes, the Sonora Cartel have not been spotted in or near Aelbank City. I can imagine that our actions came as a bit of a shock to them, as they're not used to people standing up to them. More so having their own terror tactics used against them."

I could not help but smirk at the thought, "I have no doubt García is planning something."

Vincent bent forward in his chair, "Agreed, they're most likely preparing some form of retaliation, especially as you used one of their own signature moves against them. Leaving burnt bodies in barrels is something they do back in Mexico, that was a nice touch."

Leaning back into my chair once more, I pursed my lips, as though briefly deep in thought.

Naturally, I knew that it would only be a matter of time before José Hernández García and his men struck back against us. It was the nature of the game we played, but I had no intention of losing.

Now more than ever would I need to be careful and ensure the safety of those around me.
