Chapter 71 I Hate Idiots
After thinking for a long time, Vanessa took out her phone and dialed a number.
The phone rang a few times before someone picked up. It was a lazy male voice.
"Well, well, Miss Drake, what made you think of calling me?"
Vanessa smiled too, though her face looked terrible. Her tone was still relaxed, as if chatting about everyday things.
"Noah Monroe, I need a favor."
"What is it?"
"I heard you're about to join Reed Corporation?"
Noah chuckled, "Your information is pretty up-to-date. What, is Black Group trying to poach me too?"
Vanessa laughed, "Black Group can't afford you. I just wanted to tell you that Reed Corporation has set up a new lab, and I think you'd be very interested in the project they're working on."
Noah's voice paused, then said, "Vanessa, since when did you become so generous? Feeding me such a big opportunity - I'm almost afraid to agree to whatever you're asking."
Vanessa laughed softly, her tone still relaxed, "It's nothing much, just got played by some bed-climbing woman, feeling a bit pissed off."
The words "bed-climbing woman" made Noah on the other end narrow his eyes.
What he hated most in his life was those empty-headed women who climbed to high positions through men. His mother had been driven to death by that kind of woman.
"You mean..."
"What could I possibly mean? Am I telling you to kill someone or commit arson?" Vanessa sat down, took a sip of wine, leaned back on the sofa, and said leisurely, "I just want to ask you, when you get there, to show that bitch what real professionalism looks like."
If she could cause her some trouble, that would be even better.
But she didn't need to say that - Noah would do it on his own.
"Actually, I've heard some gossip about Reed Corporation lately. I was wondering when Ethan's taste became so poor?"
Vanessa didn't respond to that, just said, "Are you going or not?"
Noah thought for a moment and said, "Of course I'll go. I'm free anyway, might as well have some fun with her."
"Then it's settled."
After hanging up, Vanessa leaned against the headboard, her lips curving into a smile.
Daisy, you want to prove yourself?
Then let me show you what a real genius looks like.
--
That day, Daisy was organizing data in the lab when Amy suddenly pushed the door open, her face full of excitement.
"Ms. Hart! Guess who's coming to our lab?"
Daisy looked up, "Who?"
"Noah Monroe! THE Noah!" Amy's voice changed with excitement, "He actually came to our company! And I heard he might be joining our lab!"
Daisy couldn't help but feel pleasantly surprised.
She had of course heard of Noah. He was recognized in the industry as a genius who had won several international awards at a young age and published so many professional papers they could stack up to his height.
At the last industry summit, he was one of the speakers. Daisy had wanted to meet him then, but he left right after his speech, so she never got the chance to even shake his hand.
Recently, she'd heard he had just terminated his contract with his previous employer, and several top institutions were trying to recruit him, each offering better conditions than the last.
She never expected he would choose Reed Corporation.
"Where is he?" she asked.
"Still in HR!" Amy said, "Mr. Reed is meeting with him personally!"
That was just mentioned in passing, then everyone went back to their work. By the afternoon, the notice came from HR.
Noah had completed his onboarding procedures and officially joined Reed Corporation, parachuting into Daisy's lab as a senior researcher.
Daisy was naturally happy to receive the news and specially prepared an independent office, having it cleaned spotlessly.
The next day, Noah came to clock in early.
He was very tall, over six feet by her estimate, wearing an open white lab coat with a t-shirt underneath.
She'd only caught a glimpse before, but this time Daisy got a good look.
Up close, his features were very defined, with a certain coldness in his eyes - he didn't look like someone easy to approach.
Daisy felt a bit nervous, but still went up to him and extended her hand.
"Mr. Monroe, welcome aboard. I'm Daisy, the lab director."
Noah glanced at her, didn't extend his hand, just smiled slightly - that was his greeting.
Daisy's hand hung awkwardly in mid-air. She withdrew it somewhat embarrassed, then said, "Let me show you around first."
Noah said nothing, just followed her inside.
Along the way, Daisy introduced him to various areas of the lab and briefly explained their current research direction.
Noah listened, occasionally nodding, but didn't say a word.
Daisy felt puzzled, wondering why he was being so cold.
Maybe talented people are all this arrogant.
She led Noah to the lab bench and took out their current experimental data.
"This is our recent project data. You can take a look first to understand our progress."
Noah took it and after just one glance, his brow furrowed, his voice carrying a sarcastic tone.
"You did this?"
Daisy didn't understand what he meant, so she answered honestly, "Yes, I led it."
Noah said nothing, just put the report back on the desk, inwardly sneering.
A woman who got her position through connections - does she even understand experimental data?
Who knows which sucker actually did this work for her to show off.
Thinking about this, he looked at Daisy, his gaze now carrying two parts contempt.
She is indeed beautiful, no wonder she could climb up.
Daisy felt uncomfortable under his gaze.
Even if she was slow to catch on, she realized this Mr. Monroe had a problem with her. In that case, there was no need for her to keep trying.
"Mr. Monroe, if there's nothing else, I'll get back to work."
Noah spread his hands, "Do as you please." Then he walked straight to his office.
Daisy shook her head helplessly.
--
It must be said, Noah might be arrogant, but he did have real skills.
He worked extremely efficiently, and his suggestions were often right on point. Problems that stumped others, he could understand at a glance.
This immediately won over everyone in the lab. Especially since, although he seemed cold and harsh, no matter who asked him for help, he would answer everything without holding back, very patiently.
Only with Daisy was his attitude really inappropriate.
When Daisy held meetings, he played with his phone. When Daisy spoke, he interrupted, deliberately opposing her.
Even Daisy, with her good temper, couldn't take it anymore. She took the initiative to talk to him, even asking directly, "How exactly have I offended you?"
He just shrugged and said with a smile, "Not at all. We didn't even know each other before, how could you have offended me?"
"I just..." He smiled and pointed his index finger at his head, "hate idiots, that's all."
