Chapter 193 Obediently Cooperate with the Inspection
Cordelia completely ignored his temper and turned to the nurse, saying, "Take his temperature again, then send him to the examination room. I'll let the doctor there know."
The nurse nodded.
Cordelia glanced at Jason on the hospital bed and left the ward.
Jason was then taken by the nurse to the examination room.
After the examination, the nurse came to Cordelia's office, looking exhausted.
"Jason smashed some equipment in the examination room, claiming the doctor hurt him."
"We had to sweet-talk him for quite a while before he finally cooperated with the examination."
Cordelia's expression remained calm. "Just make him pay for the damages. Have his family members arrived yet?"
At 21, with such arrogance, he must have been spoiled by his family and never faced real hardship.
The nurse shook her head.
"No."
The examination room doctor had already sent Jason's test results to Cordelia's computer.
Cordelia looked at the examination report on her computer while writing prescriptions.
Patients couldn't receive IV fluids on an empty stomach. Cordelia took out a bottle of milk from her drawer that she had stored earlier, checked the expiration date—it was still good.
Jason had caused quite a scene in the examination room earlier and now seemed completely worn out.
Cordelia walked over and placed the milk on his bedside table, then explained his examination results.
Jason didn't make a sound the entire time.
"Call your family and have them come take care of you. Your tailbone is fractured, you need to rest on your side, and it'll be very inconvenient to move around."
Jason showed no reaction and didn't respond to Cordelia.
Cordelia didn't continue the topic and said calmly, "I've already warmed up the milk for you. Drink it, then you'll get your IV and medication."
Jason gave a short snort and finally spoke.
"I'm not eating anything you give me. I'm afraid you'll poison me."
"Sounds like you’ve done plenty of that at bars," Cordelia said casually.
Jason was caught off guard by her words and stiffened his neck. "I've never done anything like that."
"Last night was because Fiona said you'd taken some kind of aphrodisiac and needed help, so I went to find you."
Jason's voice gradually became quieter as he spoke.
Cordelia's eyes narrowed slightly. She wasn't surprised by Jason's words.
"Are you and Fiona close?" she asked casually.
The nurse came over with the paper examination report for Cordelia.
Cordelia took the report and flipped through it.
Jason snorted coldly. "I'm a VIP customer at their bar. Fiona wanted to boost sales for the guy she likes, so naturally she had to butter me up."
Fiona had given him access to some pretty good resources before, so he'd taken advantage of quite a few opportunities.
So when she said that last night, he believed her.
"Do you have a grudge against Fiona?"
Jason thought about how Cordelia's condition last night showed she hadn't taken any aphrodisiac at all. Clearly Fiona had deliberately sent him to take advantage of Cordelia.
He couldn't help thinking about his own state last night—if Alaric hadn't interfered, he definitely would have gone through with it.
If he had forced himself on her, he wouldn't be in the hospital right now—he'd probably be at the police station.
Fiona wasn't just trying to harm Cordelia, she was trying to frame him too.
Thinking this through, Jason gritted his teeth.
That damn Fiona.
Cordelia answered calmly, "No grudge, no grievance."
Jason: "Then why did she try to harm you?"
Cordelia placed the examination report on the cabinet in Jason's room, thought for a moment, and answered.
"Maybe she’s just jealous I’m prettier than her?"
Jason fell silent.
"You really have a clear understanding of yourself."
Cordelia didn't continue the conversation. After putting down the examination report and giving him some professional instructions, she left Jason's ward.
As soon as she left, Jason lost all his energy, lying on the bed without saying a word.
At noon, Cordelia was returning from the outpatient department and passed by Jason's ward door when she heard sobbing inside.
"Jason, you have to understand, your little brother is still young, I really can't get away. I can't come take care of you. I've already paid your medical expenses and hired a top-level caregiver for you."
"Don't you like pretty girls? This caregiver is around your age, and she'll take care of you until you're discharged."
Soon, Jason's furious voice came from the room.
"Get out."
"I don't need any of you to take care of me."
This was followed by the sound of something being smashed.
With a mother like that, no wonder Jason had such a personality.
Cordelia stopped in her tracks. She had just bandaged Jason this morning, and if he moved too much now, she'd have to rebandage him again.
She didn't have a good impression of Jason and didn't really want him staying in the hospital too long.
She walked to the ward door and knocked.
A woman's voice came from inside.
"Come in."
Cordelia pushed the door open and introduced herself. "Hello, I'm Jason's attending physician."
The wealthy-looking woman standing by Jason's bed wiped tears from the corners of her eyes, then said to Jason, "I'm leaving now. I'll come see you another day."
Jason remained silent, not responding.
Seeing this, the woman sighed softly and eventually left, not even asking Cordelia a single question about Jason's condition.
Cordelia was stunned for a moment, unable to understand why there would be mothers in this world who didn't love their own children.
After the woman left, Jason threw a tantrum.
He smashed things and pulled out his IV needle.
Cordelia just stood at the ward door watching him pull it out. After he finished venting and had no energy left, Cordelia walked in, reinserted the needle for him, and checked his condition.
"You get out too."
Jason's face was full of displeasure, his tone low and heavy.
Cordelia ignored him and rebandaged him.
Jason said sullenly again, "I told you to get out too. Did you hear me?"
Cordelia finished rebandaging Jason's wound and said casually.
"This is a hospital, my territory. If anyone’s leaving, it’s you."
Jason froze.
Cordelia tied a knot in the bandage and glanced at him.
"Get better quickly and then get out of the hospital."
Jason clearly hadn't expected Cordelia to say that. After a flash of shock in his eyes, he fell completely silent.
Hannah came to invite Cordelia to the cafeteria. After lunch, Cordelia brought a meal back for Jason.
She placed the lunch on Jason's table. Jason didn't say thank you.
Before getting off work in the afternoon, Cordelia came to check on him and saw the lunch box in the trash can.
The food in the box was barely touched.
So all day he'd only had one bottle of milk.
After finishing her examination, Cordelia placed a cafeteria business card on his bedside.
The hospital cafeteria had a meal delivery service.
She put down the card and was about to leave when Jason's extremely gloomy voice sounded.
"My phone is broken. I can't make calls."
Cordelia: "What does that have to do with me?"
Jason fell silent.
Cordelia: "Is this how you ask someone for help?"
Jason's face immediately darkened.
Cordelia put her hands in her pockets and walked out of his ward.
She had barely taken two steps when she heard Jason's slightly irritated voice, "Please help me make a call to order food. And about last night, I'm sorry."
His voice faded, until the last "I’m sorry" was as faint as a mosquito’s buzz.
