Chapter 71 Deliberately Making Her Lose Face in Front of Alaric

Chapter 71 Deliberately Making Her Lose Face in Front of Alaric

Alaric glanced down at Cordelia in his arms. "You okay?"

Cordelia shook her head, wincing as pain shot through her ankle. Her brows knitted together.

"I'm fine."

She took a deep breath and stepped out of Alaric's embrace.

Janet, with Robert's help, got up too.

She stood off to the side, looking at Alaric with hurt in her eyes.

Even though she was the one who fell, Alaric's focus never left Cordelia.

She bit her lip and muttered, "I'm sorry, Ms. Stone, I—"

Cordelia cut her off, her voice steady. "I'm fine."

Upon seeing Cordelia get knocked over by Janet, Evelyn's expression changed. She rushed over, grabbing Cordelia's hand with concern.

"Are you okay?"

Cordelia pressed her lips together and replied softly, "I think I twisted my ankle."

A pregnant woman with a twisted ankle was a tricky situation.

Most medications for sprains were off-limits during pregnancy.

Evelyn shot Janet a cold glare.

Janet flinched, looking down, appearing both innocent and pitiful.

Cordelia leaned on Evelyn for support, struggling to move.

Her ankle was already swelling and turning red. Alaric's gaze darkened as he watched her, his expression stern. He stepped forward, grabbed her hand, and placed it around his neck, effortlessly lifting her into his arms.

Cordelia was momentarily stunned, her face showing surprise.

"Mr. Hughes, I can walk."

Alaric's face remained stern. "Quiet."

Evelyn noticed Cordelia's swollen ankle and spoke softly.

"How are you supposed to walk with that ankle? If Mr. Hughes is willing to help, let him."

Cordelia stayed silent.

Alaric carried her into the elevator, Evelyn quickly following.

Janet stood there, looking panicked, unsure whether to follow or leave.

Her face pale, she watched the elevator doors close, Alaric's worried expression etched in her mind.

"Robert, does Alaric like Ms. Stone?"

Robert was silent.

Wasn't it obvious?

Janet's eyes reddened. "Then what about me? What am I to Alaric?"

Robert looked confused. "Ms. Martin, didn't you and Mr. Hughes break up three years ago?"

Janet froze, unsure how to react.

Robert remained polite. "Ms. Martin, I have to go."

He walked past her, taking another elevator.

Downstairs.

Alaric carried Cordelia out of the elevator, drawing the attention of passing staff.

Evelyn and Cordelia were already strikingly beautiful.

Alaric was no less attractive, and carrying Cordelia so effortlessly made them even more eye-catching.

The pairing of a handsome man and a beautiful woman naturally attracted attention.

Seeing Alaric heading to his car, Cordelia immediately struggled.

"Mr. Hughes, please put me in Evelyn's car."

Alaric frowned, his face stern. "I'm taking you to the hospital."

Cordelia refused. "No need, Evelyn will take me."

Alaric's gaze was warning. "Cordelia, now's not the time to be stubborn."

Cordelia replied calmly, "Alaric, I'm not being stubborn. We're divorced. I don't want any unnecessary misunderstandings."

Evelyn, worried about Cordelia's pregnancy being exposed, stepped forward.

"Mr. Hughes, you've done enough. I'll take Cordelia to the hospital myself."

Alaric frowned but reluctantly placed Cordelia in Evelyn's car.

Cordelia, sitting in the back seat, thanked him politely.

"Thank you, Mr. Hughes."

Alaric, his face cold, got into the car, sitting next to Cordelia.

"Didn't you call me a friend yesterday? Friends take care of each other, right?"

He said, clearly displeased, then ordered the driver to start the car.

The driver, confused, looked at Evelyn for direction.

Evelyn, raising an eyebrow, got into the front passenger seat.

"Sunrise Valley Hospital."

The driver quickly started the car, heading to Sunrise Valley Hospital.

Janet, exiting Luminary Ventures Group, saw Cordelia's car leaving.

Only Alaric's car remained.

With a glimmer of hope, she walked over and knocked on the back seat window.

"Alaric."

The front passenger window rolled down, revealing Robert's calm face.

"Sorry, Ms. Martin, Mr. Hughes isn't here."

Janet's expression changed. "Where did he go?"

Robert glanced at the car leaving the parking lot.

Following his gaze, Janet saw the Stone Group's car leaving, her face darkening.

"Is Alaric in that car?"

Robert didn't answer, only instructing the driver to follow.

Janet, stunned, tried to get in, but Robert had already rolled up the window.

She was left standing at Luminary Ventures Group.

Everyone cared about Cordelia, but no one cared about her.

She bit her lip, her hands clenching tightly in frustration.

The pain in her palm reminded her of her fall, the skin broken and red.

Now she understood why Evelyn left her at the Stone Group.

Evelyn wanted to humiliate her.

Sunrise Valley Hospital.

As Alaric got out, he bent to lift Cordelia.

Hannah arrived with a wheelchair.

Cordelia, having messaged Hannah on the way, felt relieved seeing her. She looked at Alaric calmly.

"Mr. Hughes, don't block me."

Alaric glanced at the wheelchair, his gaze darkening.

He stepped aside, his face cold.

With Hannah's help, Cordelia got into the wheelchair.

Hannah checked Cordelia's ankle, frowning.

"It's badly swollen. How did this happen?"

Cordelia answered softly, "Janet accidentally bumped into me."

Hannah's face darkened, glaring at Alaric with discontent. "Why does she keep causing trouble?"

She pushed Cordelia into the hospital.

As Alaric tried to follow, Evelyn stopped him.

She glanced at Janet, who had just arrived by taxi, and spoke sternly. "Alaric, you should handle this first."

Alaric's gaze turned icy.

"Evelyn, since you kept her around, you deal with her."

With that, he entered the hospital.

Evelyn raised an eyebrow as Janet approached quickly, a knowing smile spreading across her face.

It seemed Alaric didn't care much about Janet after all.
