Chapter 65 Tonia has to pay
Giovanni Dawson was so upset that he couldn’t speak immediately, taking the opportunity to calm himself first. However, when he spoke, he didn’t seem calm.
“Did you forget the rules about touching family?” He had accessed the cameras at the RD Group during that brief moment and it reminded him of what happened to his wife before.
Roger was slightly confused and mentioned, “That’s why I cut them off from the board.”
“But that’s not enough,” Giovanni contended in a deadly calm tone, Loretta had tears in her eyes as she heard his next words. “You should have sent a message to the Dawsons Group to cease all partnerships with them, blacklist them, and make sure they go bankrupt. Why have you become so weak?”
The atmosphere tensed up, and even Karen was fearful, with tears in her eyes. Her family never cared about her, but Giovanni Dawson, whom she loved as a father, was ceasing all operations worth billions with the Summers because of her.
“Well, my wife is the new CEO, and I’m training her to handle matters. I was just starting when Mr. Summers tried to prove to me how much power he has because you two are friends.”
“He’s out of my friend list from today,” Giovanni assured, giving him the full authority to operate. “No one bullies my daughter and lives to tell the story.”
As soon as the line died, Roger was about to say something when his phone rang again.
“Dad, is there anything else?”
“I was calling Karen, but her phone is off. It can’t be intentional, right? Is she with you?”
“Hold on,” Roger said on the line before turning to Karen. “Did you leave your phone in the car?” He remembered she hadn’t called him when she arrived despite the challenges she faced.
“No, the bitch broke it when I was about to call you.”
“Oh,” Giovanni said on the line. “I knew it was bad, but I never thought it was that bad. That phone is the first of the Dawson’s premium brand worth twenty million. If she can’t pay, throw her into jail after rendering her family bankrupt. I will send another one for my daughter.”
Not only was Karen spoiled by her husband, but her father-in-law doted on her as well. Onlookers were beginning to fear her than Roger himself. Giovanni ended the call as Karen smiled, but a tear slid down her cheek.
Roger wiped it with his thumb. “Hey, what happened?” He asked worriedly. Karen smiled wider through tears. “It feels good to have a family standing up for me.”
Strong arms wrapped around her as Roger pulled her to his chest. “You deserve it and even more, Kitten.”
The buzzing of a phone interrupted the moment. “Oh no, please Mr. and Mrs. Dawson, you can’t fire us? We didn’t do anything,” one of the onlookers pleaded. Karen was confused. “What are you talking about?”
“We just received termination letters from HR.”
Before Karen could ask why, the elevator doors opened, and a middle-aged woman stepped out of it. She looked dignified and powerful. “Mr. Dawson,” she bowed slightly in a respectful way. “I’m sorry for the mess, but I think we can take it from here.”
“I don’t know if my wife would want that,” Roger refused. Karen shook her head. “Aside from being shit heads and standing on the fence, they didn’t directly offend me, so three months suspension without pay is enough for me.”
Three months without pay was a harsh blow but paled in comparison to being fired, so none of them could protest.
However, Loretta saw a loophole in Karen’s kindness and decided to take advantage of it. “Karen, I’m sorry. I can pay for the phone, but can you not remove the partnership?” Her family would rather sacrifice millions to replace the phone but going bankrupt or jail would be terrible.
She was still pale, but Karen was done being nice. “Perhaps you should seek help from Tonia and not me.”
Loretta was gnashing her teeth as Roger’s phone rang. When he saw the caller ID, he scoffed. “Your father is calling again.”
Answering the call, he put it on speaker, and Mr. Summers’s teary voice echoed. “Roger, please forgive me. I accept your punishment. Can you beg your father to not cut off our partnership from the Dawson’s Group?”
Roger chuckled. “After you got me grilled for giving you a lighter punishment, I’m sorry, but the worst hasn’t happened yet.” The foolish man made his father see him as weak and now he wants his judgement? No way.
“What are you talking about?” he asked worriedly, Roger lowered his phone and typed a few things on it. A moment later, people began gasping.
“Oh my God, the Summers stocks have plummeted so bad, right after they got kicked out of the RD and Dawson Group,” the breaking news reported, Mr. Summers was in tears.
“No, please, you can’t do this. I’ll disown my daughter, but please…”
Roger’s voice cut through. “Sorry, that option isn’t available anymore since you trampled on my authority and that of my wife.”
He ended the call immediately and turned to Karen. “Can we leave now?”
Karen turned to Loretta and demanded, “You still have to pay for that phone, and if you don’t have the money, ask Tonia or spend some years in jail.”
Loretta sank to the floor. “It’s over,” she murmured. Her phone rang, and this time, she knew all hope was lost. “Have you seen what you’ve done? We lost everything.”
Karen smiled at Roger. “One last thing. I want Sandra promoted to the position of office manager. She’ll do a good job,” she recommended, Sandra was on her knees.
“Oh, Madam, thank you so much. You have no idea what this means to me.”
Karen nodded and turned to the HR manager. “You can take care of the rest.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
Roger was stunned, his love for her increasing. She was more intelligent and mature than he thought. Who would think she was just nineteen? Her birthday was also around the corner and he planned to surprise her.
Hand in hand, they reached the elevator, their gazes not leaving each other as they heard Loretta saying, “No, Tonia has to pay, Dad. I’ll make her pay.”
Loretta immediately dialed Tonia’s number after ending the call with her father. “Hi, can we meet?”
