"Ines," Mrs. Josefina commented. "Don't cry before it's time. We all die, but in God's appointed time. Remember that miracles happen every day."
She touched Ines's head and then they hugged; a chill ran through my body.
"After we talk, tell Miguel that baby will be born in a few hours."
"Can she know that?" I smiled.
"For many years in my village, I was the midwife. The nose is very wide, it won't be long now."
"I'll tell her to sit down right away."
Luisa was about ten feet away, handing out gifts on behalf of La Apuesta; she was heavily pregnant. My mother-in-law was the last to arrive and stood next to her daughter. Simon arrived with his two daughters and they handed out the gifts as a family. I looked at my husband, feeding our princess, Lupe had another doing the same, and Arnold had Liam in his arms, burping him.
"What should I do?"
"You shouldn't be in these situations." She waved dismissively.
"As soon as people start arriving, we'll hand out the quilts."
"They're beautiful. Veronica, the real reason for my trip was because Gladis told me she wouldn't give you my message. After meditating with God, I felt this sensation in my chest, and it's important to be here, especially for my son."

My whole body trembled at such beautiful words, and my eyes welled up with tears.
"Thank you, Mrs. Josefina." She took my hand again.
"You must be the pillar for your husband, and I need you to inject all your friends with the strength to be the foundation where those reserved men will find shelter."
"You're scaring me. Is Inés going to die?"
"Only God knows, but with what's coming, you need to understand that they adore her."
The workers started arriving, interrupting us. We got busy handing out and smiling at each of the workers as they passed by to receive the gift from El Renacer. Then they went to La Apuesta, followed by El Oasis, and lastly, Las Alondras, which was the biggest package, though it wasn't heavy.
Everything went wonderfully. Around eleven, Gustavo left with his two sisters, Mrs. Josefina, Gladis, and Enrique. The younger sister made friends with several young people, and her brother kept an eye on her the entire time. Men! The next to leave were Aníbal with Shirly, accompanied by his sister and his four nephews. Karen was beautiful.
Behind them, Daniel, Clari, the kids, and Mrs. Claudia left. That woman was a delight. My parents left with my brother, Luz Marina, who was pregnant again; it would be their second and last child. She would definitely close the factory. Roland had gone ahead to put the kids to bed who had fallen asleep two hours ago while I finished tidying up a few things.
Inés left more calmly after the gift-giving; she talked a lot with Mrs. Josefina. I saw Lupe running with Arnold to his room. When I got to my room, Roland was coming out of the shower.
"I'm exhausted, Beautiful. We need to hire another nanny. Mireya helps, but still, it's four kids. I had them for just a few hours, and I'm beat. You do it every day."
