Chapter 148 - You'll Always Be My Variant - mddos
Roland
I was definitely hallucinating. It must have been the confusion. I was about to clear things up, but she started talking. With insults to my mother, so I kept quiet. What was she thinking?
"Ask your mother if she remembers Roland Sandoval. What's your name?"
"That's none of your business. And respect my mother, you don't know her. Besides, how important can this Roland Sandoval be?"
"Your mother will tell you he's her brother, the one she abandoned. And to answer your question, Roland is the love of my life." My treacherous heart began to race again.
"Then tell your husband to visit us, I'm his neighbor." If she was caught up in this drama, I wasn't going to be the one to pull her out.
"My husband is dead."
I moved closer. Did Verónica really think I was someone else? I raised an eyebrow, and she got lost in my gesture. It was clear how nervous she was, and I had a nagging feeling deep inside.
"Weren't you the one kissing a man yesterday?"
I got so close, the energy between us was palpable. My body reacted like a magnet to hers.
"If you try to kiss me, you'll have the same luck as the idiot from yesterday who tried to put his lips on mine." I stopped. What did she say? "Don't you dare, if you value your testicles at all, don't even think about kissing me!"
I burst out laughing. I might seem crazy, but this woman was definitely my girl. All the discomfort from yesterday evaporated.
"And yes, I will go to her house and confront the heartless woman. Even if he's dead, I'll ask her how she could abandon a child." Deep down, I appreciated how she defended me.
"You're crazy. I don't have a brother, just a sister. And as for daring to kiss you..."
I turned on the charm. I hadn't done it in months, but I didn't think I'd lost my touch. I gave her a smile and threw her breathing off.
"You'll be the one begging me."
"I'm a married woman!" She headed toward her horse, still very nervous.
"You just said you're a widow and you're not wearing a ring." She looked at her hand.
"They're at my house. And I don't have to explain anything to you!"
"Are you sure?" I was exerting psychological power. I know how to play with people. "I'm certain I have every right to." I moved closer. "In fact..."
I whispered in her ear, witnessing how her skin completely bristled. The closeness worked against me, her scent, that characteristic floral smell that made my manhood come to life, which tensed even more.
"I feel I have the right... You will be mine."
I brushed my lips against hers, and a shiver ran through us at the closeness. An electric current took over my stomach. I made a huge effort and pulled away as her breathing grew ragged.
"No." It was a whisper.
"My ranch borders yours. I've lived there my whole life." I lied, mounting Amón.
"The horse is just like..."
I didn't let her finish. I spurred and galloped away. I needed to put distance between us, more for my sake than hers. Nothing went as I had planned, but I must confess, this time I liked the twist in our encounter. Where did she get the idea that I'm a twin?
I didn't stop until I reached Las Alondras. My mother looked worried. After leaving Amón in the stable, as soon as I entered the house, a huge dog jumped on me, making me lose my balance and fall on my butt. My face was invaded by licks from not one, but three dogs.
As best I could, I sat up, laughing while hugging Galaxia, who was barking, howling, and wagging her tail so hard it seemed it might break. She even peed from excitement. Little by little, everything had to get back to normal. The encounter with my woman still had me in a daze. So much thinking and cursing last night, and now I was both happy and angry.
My heart had been on a wild roller coaster. After several minutes, when the dogs had calmed down, I looked at Galaxia's two pups. Their collars bore their names, Galo and Gala. I laughed again. I love you, Verónica!
"Son," my mother interrupted, happy to see me laughing like a child. "Your sister is looking for you. She needs to talk to you urgently."
"If mom already called her, then serve me lunch, I'm starving."
"Your eyes are shining differently, it's not because of the dogs, is it?"
"Mom, I want to talk to you. Since yesterday, I've been on a damn roller coaster because of my wife."
"Watch your language. Did you see her? Did she see you?"
"Yes, she thinks I'm a twin brother and that you're a bad woman."
"Why does she say that?"
"I have no clue. I wanted to punish her because yesterday, when I went out looking for her, I saw her kissing another guy. And today, when I ran into her, she said that if I approached and kissed her, I'd meet the same fate as the guy who kissed her yesterday."
"That's what your sister wants to talk about. I justify her in that; she was caught off guard. According to Luisa, she almost killed that Juan guy."
I liked hearing that. It made me feel a bit better. I stood up and took out my phone. On the second ring, she answered.
"Finally, you deign to return my calls!"
"I treated you the same way; it's annoying, isn't it?"
"Listen, Maluco, I'm still mad at you. Burning your house was a complete mistake, not because of the material damage, but because of your friends. On another note, I hope this doesn't cause problems with my boyfriend." I opened my eyes wide. "Yes, I'm letting you know that Simón and I have started a relationship."
"Freckles, you don't know how much peace and happiness it gives me to hear that. I can die happy, leaving you in good hands. No matter what jerks we've been, if you manage to get into his heart, you'll be the happiest woman."
"Thanks, Maluco. The other thing... I'll tell you. Yesterday, I was with Simón, finalizing the details of the attack that's going to happen. And today, your friend's watch started beeping. When he called, they informed him that Verónica was very upset.
"Miguel confirmed to him that he hadn't been able to answer because he was keeping my sister-in-law away from Juan, who he wanted to beat up for trying to kiss her. Your friend's words were that it was just a peck, but your wife's response was to shout that she didn't want the memory of any other lips on her mouth, only yours."
"Why are you telling me this?"
"My mom told me that as soon as you knew she arrived, you ran off. You weren't going to get there immediately, but you would watch her. If you saw that, I imagined you'd be angry and uneasy. The guy arrived in Barranquilla today. Simón called him and said some things; he won't look for her again." I was glad. I didn't want that jerk near my wife.
"I didn't see that."
"I'm glad. I thought..."
"As soon as I saw the kiss, I ran off, cursing."
"Verónica hasn't been unfaithful to you."
"I didn't know that yesterday. I got drunk. A little while ago, I ran into her. She thought I was a twin brother. I didn't correct her. I wanted to play along. I was still angry about her kissing Juan. You have no idea how hard it was to control myself."
"How did she take it?"
"She fainted. If you'd had the rings, Cebolla and Rata would have known how upset she got. Freckles, I still have no idea what happened in our encounter. Now I wish I could see her to hug and kiss her. An hour ago, I held back out of jealousy."
"Why didn't she have the rings?"
"She said she left them at home."
"They're going to scold her. She only takes them off to wash her hair. We shared a room over the weekend, and I saw them. She knocked on the door to ask for them. She never leaves them anywhere."
"Fate, angels, I have no idea what the hell God wants with all this. Because it keeps dragging on. But I have to confess, that woman lifts me to heaven and throws me into hell. I wanted revenge, and look, as soon as she says I'm the love of her life, I fall apart completely. I'm a mess."
"Are you going to keep playing the game of not being you?"
"I told her I don't have a brother, just a sister, but she insisted I was her twin. She called Consuelo stingy and a bad woman."
"Roland, let go of any hint of jealousy. Verónica adores you. Please, go find her and confess everything."
"Maybe I'll do it tomorrow, Freckles. Thanks for sending me my dogs."
"You're welcome. Take care."
"I need you to keep me updated on today's operation. Please, use the glasses. I want to see everything."
