Chapter ninety-three
Chapter ninety-three
The ride felt like the longest ride Hunter had ever taken in his entire life.
Even just about thirty minutes into the drive, it already felt like eternity. Every second that passed hammered against his head. Every minute dragged like a chain around his chest.
He could hear his own heart beating fast, hard and loud.
Geret should have thought twice before he did what he did.
He really, really should have.
Hunter’s jaw kept clenching so hard that his men kept glancing at him from the passenger seat. No one dared say a word. The tension inside the car was already enough to choke someone talk more Hunter's fury. Hunter’s fingers drummed absentmindedly and restlessly against his thigh.
Victor finally broke the silence with a soft voice. “We’re ten minutes out”
Hunter nodded once. His eyes were fixed on the road ahead, but his mind was far from calm. He replayed the video footage again and again unable to keep his mind at rest.
He could barely breathe from the rage boiling in his chest.
“Christ! If anything happens to her…” Hunter whispered under his breath.
Victor swallowed. “I assure you man, nothing will happen to her. We’ll get to her in time”
He really hope so, because he was very terrified that something might have already happened.
But no matter what condition they found her in, he would burn down every last thing Geret had ever owned.
He was as good as dead.
Mirabella could feel the heaviness of her entire body.
Even shifting her head felt like trying to carry a whole mountain.
Pain pulsed behind her eyes. A sharp, throbbing pain. Her head felt heavy, as if someone placed a stone on top of it. Her limbs felt numb, stiff… very wrong.
It felt like something heavy was pushing her body down, keeping her pinned.
Her eyelids were too painful to lift, but with effort, she managed to open them very slightly… and instantly, confusion washed over her.
She was not in Hunter’s room.
She was not in Rena’s room.
She was not in any part of the house she knew.
Instead, she was in a strange, dim room with cracked walls, a single bulb overhead, and the cold smell of damp concrete filling the air.
She tried to move her hands.
But they wouldn't move.
She tried to move her legs.
They also wouldn't move.
A slow wave of panic rose through her as realization hit her like a strike.
She had been kidnapped.
Taken by strange men she didn’t even get a good look at. She only remembered the struggle, the cloth over her face, the darkness swallowing her.
Her breathing quickened. She lifted her head slightly… and nausea hit her like a punch. Everything spun. She let out a weak, painful moan and let her head drop back onto the mattress.
That was when she heard it… a man’s laughter from the foot of the bed.
A cold, cruel sound.
She forced her head up again, ignoring the pain that shot through her.
A man was standing at the foot of the bed, watching her with an expression she couldn’t understand. He was tall, lean, with slightly broad shoulders. His hair was dark and cut low. One side of his mouth lifted into a sickening smirk.
Mirabella immediately realized how exposed and vulnerable she was.
She looked down… although her clothes were still on, but her legs were chained apart to the metal bed frame. Her wrists were shackled together above her head. She tugged hard against the chains, panic rising, but they didn’t budge.
The man chuckled.
“Stop struggling pretty. It’s useless”
Her throat tightened. “Who are you? What do you want from me?”
He cocked his head. “Hunter didn’t tell you about me? I thought he might have”
On the mention of Hunter, her heart sank.
Hunter wasn’t even in town.
He didn’t even know she was in trouble.
He wouldn’t know she needed him.
No one was coming for her.
A tear rolled down her cheek before she could stop it.
The man laughed softly. “Oh… don’t cry now, darling. Not yet. I have a lot more planned that will get you crying and begging and moaning”
He walked closer to the bed, slow and deliberate, like a predator approaching it's prey. His hand reached out and brushed few strands of hair away from her face. She flinched, turning her head away, feeling disgusted.
“Mirabella…” he breathed. “Such a beauty”
She clenched her stomach, feeling sick.
“I have always fantasized about you" he continued. "I fucking hate Hunter for always getting the best of everything. And since he fucked my woman, I will definitely have a taste of his woman too. I might even make you mine”
Mirabella’s blood ran cold.
And then it clicked.
Geret.
The man who Hunter had slept with his woman… without knowing she was taken.
The man whose pride Hunter had crushed.
And now he wanted to take revenge.
Geret smirked when he saw her eyes widen. “Aha. So we’re on the same page now. Good. This can go easy if you want it to”
“No. No, please… don’t. I don’t want this,” she cried softly, her voice shaking.
Geret grabbed her chin and forced her face up. “Such a pity you think you have a choice to refuse”
Terror ripped through her.
“The cameras are going to capture everything” he said with a disgusting smile. “And then we’ll send our little enjoyment video to Hunter. What do you think?”
Mirabella’s throat tightened. Fear crawled through her body.
But she wasn’t giving up.
Not without a fight.
“Hunter will never forgive you for this” she whispered, voice trembling but firm. “He will hunt you down like a fugitive. He will never stop until he kills you. Do you really want that?”
She tried to reason with him. Praying that somehow, he would have a second thought and let her go. But the wide sickening smile on his face told her that he was not thinking straight or he simply didn't care if Hunter wanted his head after he did what he wanted to do.
“I’ll think about that later. Right now, I’m only interested in you”
He walked back to the foot of the bed and he pulled off his shirt, letting it fall to the floor. Then he reached for the zipper of his pants.
Before she could scream…
A gunshot rang out.
Geret’s head snapped toward the door. “The fuck…”
Mirabella froze.
She didn't know what was happening, but she was hopeful. At least this beast would not have his way with her.
Another sound came… footsteps. Someone running fast.
Then the door burst open and one of Geret’s men stumbled in, blood oozing from his shoulder.
“He… he is here…” the man gasped before collapsing to the ground.
Geret cursed loudly and lunged for something on the chair behind him… probably a knife or a gun…
Another gunshot exploded through the room.
Geret screamed, falling to the floor, gripping his bleeding leg.
And then…
Hunter stepped into the room.
His face was stone cold.
His eyes look dead.
Mirabella could almost feel the rage that got off him like heat against her skin. He did not blink. He did not speak.
Inside her head, she screamed and danced and cried. Altogether.
He came for her.
He found her.
He really came.
“Hunter…” she whispered, tears filling her eyes.
