Chapter 24: Doubt And Trust

"Are you asleep?" Ryan asked. As she had expected. Ryan would definitely call her soon and now she had to try to find the right answer if Ryan asked to meet.

"I-I haven't slept yet. Where are you?"

"In the mess hall, I plan to go to your apartment now. Are those people still with you?"

"You mean Leviathan?"

"Leviathan?"

"N-no, Levi. Yes, I mean Levi."

"Yeah, is he still with you?"

"Right now he's not there,"

"Don't tell me he often comes to your apartment?"

"No, he only came a few times. Really, after that he left straight away."

"What did he want to come to your place for?"

"Usually it's to ask for food." Edelweiss answered innocently. Her attitude made Ryan worried because he knew Edelweiss was too weak towards people who needed help so her kindness was often taken advantage of.

"You take in homeless people? Do you really have a lot of money to feed those people?"

"It's not like that, Ryan. I just-"

"Never mind, I'll go to your apartment!"

"You're coming now?"

"Of course! There are many questions you need to answer and I don't want you to hide anything from me, including about that strange person."

Ryan immediately ended the call after making Edelweiss feel anxious about the possible questions he would ask. Feeling anxious, he waited for Ryan's arrival because it was impossible for him to refuse Ryan to come.

After 15 minutes had passed, his apartment bell rang and he could already guess that the person standing at the door and pressing the bell was Ryan.

"H-hi?" Edelweiss greeted him with an awkward smile. Ryan gave him a cold look that made him feel like he was the worst person in the world.

Ryan stepped in with his eyes glancing at the surroundings just to make sure that 'that person' was really not here.

"He's really gone, Ryan! Did you think that I would hide him in my apartment?"

"May be!"

"Ryan?"

"I know you very well, Edel. You are too kind to refuse other people who ask you for help."

"I know you must be thinking something wrong!"

"How could I think that everything was fine, after I saw you with a man I didn't know and you never even introduced him to me. Then he claimed to be your close friend and future boyfriend, what does that mean?" Ryan let out complaints and feelings of annoyance that he had been trying to hold back since this afternoon.

Seeing his anger, Edelweiss laughed amusedly because she felt that Ryan's attitude like this was very funny.

"Hahaha...you're so funny, Ryan!"

"It's nothing funny, Edelweiss. I'm angry with you and I want you to listen to me, Miss!"

"I hear you, Ryan! I understand you're worried, but I'm fine."

"How long have you known him? And where did you first meet?" Ryan started asking question after question which made him look like a possessive boyfriend.

"I met him at the station three four ago."

"Four days ago? You've only known that person for four days and you've already brought him into your apartment?" Ryan looked shocked by Edelweiss's answer. She didn't understand how Edelweiss could just trust a man she met at the station four days ago.

And now with all the onslaught of questions Ryan is asking, Edelweiss hasn't prepared the ammunition to answer Ryan's questions. He is not a person who is good at lying and he also knows that Ryan is not an easy person to lie to.

"Ryan, it's not what you think. Actually, I don't have any relationship with Levi at all, I just happened to help him and he troubled me a little, but he didn't do anything bad to me. So, I hope you don't need to worry."

"I understand, actually I also know that I shouldn't interfere in your private life. There's nothing wrong if you want to have a boyfriend or someone you want to be by your side. But I just feel worried if you don't tell me about that, because "Your parents and also Max asked me to look after and supervise you while you live in this city. Therefore I feel responsible for your safety."

Edelweiss touched Ryan's face and gave him a gentle smile. He felt relieved that at least Ryan would understand.

"Thank you, Ryan. I'm happy because you worry about me. That's why I never worry because I know you will protect me. But for now what you have to worry about is the baby in Lyra's stomach. Your and Lyra's baby has more rights to get your attention."

"Lyra, you still don't believe me?"

"I believe you, Ryan. But right now I-"

"You still don't believe me?"

"Ryan, I-"

"Edel, I am very sure that the baby she is carrying is not mine. I know what kind of woman Lyra is, right now the only thing I want is for you to believe me!"
