Chapter Twelve

I was surprised when Raven came into my house with a paper saying that he was hiring me as the secretary of his company. That was too quick.

"You're hired." He extended the papers to me. My forehead knotted the papers because I don't remember applying to his company. As much as possible, I was doing better to avoid their name just so I couldn't stick with it once again.

"I'm not even applying." I winced when I saw that it was indeed about me being hired at his company. "I declined your offer." I boldly said Saka smiled, but Raven, being Raven, didn't listen to me.

"You'll get that or you'll get that?" he offered, giving me no choice. I looked him in the eyes.

What is he planning? And why does he always know what I do?

"Wait a minute." I faced him because we were sitting on the long sofa. I narrowed my eyes on him. "How did you know about this?" I raised the paper in the air, pertaining to applying for a job. I wanted to know how he did it.

"I saw it in your paper the last time we met," he replied lazily. I bit my bottom lip. Why am I thinking differently and assuming too much?

I suddenly thought about his offer. Will I accept it or will I shrink? I took a deep breath. Just like when he first saw me at the airport, he's still like that now. If anything changed, it was how he approached me with his eyes, looking at me as if I were some treasure that he caught and wouldn't let go.

"What will I get from being your secretary?" I stood up, with his eyes fixed on me, thinking I might suddenly grab him.

"More time with me; you will know what is happening to me." I raised an eyebrow at him, then turned away. I didn't have time for that kind of thing; it wouldn't help what I wanted to happen. It would be a complete distraction. "You know the movements of my family, even the one you hated the most, Roux, and I'll let you control me." His voice trailed off when he murmured the last two words of his sentence, but that matter was no longer important to me. It was enough to know that our agreement was with Roux.

That was the goal.

I walked quickly and calmly towards him, and then a sweet smile appeared. "I'll accept your offer, Raven." I slid my hand over his cheek. I felt his breath catch.

That's it. Be vulnerable for me.

***

"Fuck!" I cursed under my breath after I finished all the documents that I checked while the man was flirting with the person he was talking to now. The worst part is that I was inside his office, so every move I made was monitored, and here he was, feeling proud.

I protruded my lips together, "bullsh*t." I couldn't stop swearing at what I was seeing; my head was getting hot for some unknown reason.

Earlier, Gretchen was a reporter and was giving news about the Smith family in Itacha. He is a famous influencer and even a great reporter, and he is one of the reasons behind the popularity of Smith in different parts of the world.

I didn't understand why it was necessary for her to spend more time talking to the man, even though she could have talked to me. I rolled my eyes at how they both laughed at each other. I threw a dagger at the man, whose eyes were narrowed as he laughed with the woman.

After a few hours of checking the papers, I interrupted two people who had no intention of working. They are disturbing with their tittering; I can't concentrate on my work because I can almost write their words on the laptop.

I dropped the paper in front of them, causing them to stop, and they both looked at me. Raven gave me an expression while the woman stood up and felt disgusted by my presence. Well, we felt the same.

"Who is this?" she asked sharply. I raised an eyebrow at her. Her eyebrows are thick and porous, she looks young by her skin, her hair is only shoulder-length in coffee color, and her nose is not very pointed and not that flat either. Her lips were thin and covered with Avon lipstick, and her face was also a diamond shape.

"My secretary," I say, arching my right brow at the woman when Raven spoke with manners. Inside my body, I wanted to exclaim at her and drag her outside of this building.

"You're just an employer here; by the way, you make noise at the table, aka, you think you're higher than me." Her face grimaced, and I scrutinized her as I scoffed.

"How could I not spot you when I'm actually taller than you?" Her face turned red, and she was only burning with anger.

"Bitch!" My face twitched at how she addressed me; that's why I also screamed.

"Slut!" Her red was even more red when I called her that, the last time I felt her sharp nails running across my face. "Fuck!" I exclaimed while sharply looking at her, and then she was attacked. I grab her new rebonded hair up to her scalp, and I can feel that her scalp will be removed. We were calling each other by a name that was not related to our real names.

"Stop girls!" His voice echoed in the four corners of this room. "You wanna be viral?" He pointed to the CCTV. I swallowed while still holding Gretchen's hair, which did the same too. I know that our faces are not that good based on his expression.

Gosh, I'm not here to be this woman's rival. They make so much noise that my head gets really hot, and if they laugh, you'd think they didn't have anyone working.

I removed my hands, not because I was afraid to go viral, but because I realized that I was a professional and I didn't want Gretchen to be an obstacle in my life.
