Chapter 159: The Letter of Goodbye
Three months later…
"Come home early today. I have something to tell you."
"Really?" Din asked. They were both standing at the doorway. She was seeing him off as he prepared to leave for work.
Din was prepared to sue Beth when the babies arrived three months ago, but Jessie dissuaded him. She claimed that she could have handled things worse if she had been the one, but Din asked for legal action not because of the video she sent but rather because of the money she stole from him.
"She cheated me, Jessie. For this reason, I intended to sue her. I need her to pay the money back." He had said to Jessie so she would understand that this isn't about letting Beth go.
"Din, you used to love her. You should let it go. She is already paying for what she has done to you."
While gazing at her, Din sighed. He said, "Do you know how beautiful you are?" and she grinned. "You are really beautiful, Jessie." He kissed her on the lips. "Alright. Tonight I will see you, okay? This coming weekend, we can even organize a date night."
She nodded. "Yes, Mr. Cooper." As she watched him walk away, she waved. Din resisted going, but she insisted that he go because he had work to do and clients to see.
When Jessie noticed Din's car leaving through the window, she made her way back to her room. When she was certain her kids had dozed off, she stepped away from them. She walked into the bathroom to take her bath.
After Sierra left two months ago, Bev also went back to school. She was unable to stop thinking about the message Sky had left her three months prior, on the day she had given birth, as she turned on the shower. She still hadn't informed Din of her upcoming tour. She planned on doing that tonight. How exactly will she tell him when she has promised to start a family with him? She started to second-guess whether or not to tell him.
Jessie sighed and turned off the faucet. She wasn't sure what to do anymore, which confused her. She genuinely wants to start a family with Din because she loves him, but what about the career she worked so hard to achieve? She has endured torture for the past three months. Her mind was filled with so many inquiries. She dried herself off and got out of the bathroom.
Jessie gave her triplets a kiss while gazing at them. They looked so peaceful as they slept. If she follows the advice of her mind, she is a bad mother. It also entails leaving her children behind in order to pursue her dreams. Din is a wonderful father, and she is confident that he will look after them well even if she isn't there, but what about him? Who will look after him? She wondered.
Her phone beeped, and Jessie checked it. A message from Sky. Three months ago, she told him to get ready for the tour; tomorrow, however, is the actual day of the tour. "Jessie, we depart in an hour."
She dropped the phone while having tears well up in her eyes. Though it wasn't her intention, now that her dream has finally come true, she just has trouble picturing a family. She went to the closet and looked for her clothes. She retrieved the baggage from its storage location and filled it with all of her clothing.
Today has always been the day she has looked forward to. She might be a better mother and a better fiancé to Din in a different life, but for now, her dream is more important. She struggled with the choice and knows she would later regret it, but she has already made up her mind.
As they slept, she gave them a quick glance. "Daddy will be good to you." She extended her hand and stroked their hands. "You should also be easy on daddy. Please take care of him for me." She said.
After zipping up her luggage, Jessie set it down on the floor and got ready. Now that she has recovered, she is free to go wherever she wants. Her phone started ringing. As she picked it up, Taylor's name was illuminated on it.
"Hey, hun," Taylor said. She sounded so happy over the phone.
Jessie tried to keep her emotions hidden. She hid her frail voice as she spoke. "You sound happy. What is going on, Taylor?"
"I had intended to drop by tonight, but I don't want to bother you and Din, so I'll be dropping by tomorrow. How does that sound?" There won't be a tomorrow. She will be in another country by tomorrow. Singing songs to fans who love her music.
"I think you should just tell me now. You know I hate surprises."
"Okay. I will tell you. Jessie, William proposed to me this morning!" Over the phone, she screamed.
"Really?"
"Yes. I am so happy. I can't wait to tell you the details."
"Wow. I am happy for you, Taylor."
"Thank you, Jessie. When that day comes, I want you to be my bridesmaid. Okay? I'll give you a call later. Williams just returned." After hanging up the phone, Jessie sighed and sat down on her bed. She was happy for her best friend. But she also felt sad. She was unable to even tell Taylor about it. If she had, Taylor would have convinced her to stay.
She checked the time, and she knew Sky would call her very soon. Jessie searched for paper to write a letter to Din. She finished, picked it up, and got to her feet. One final kiss was given to her children. "Mummy loves you. I will meet you again." She exited the room with her luggage.
She spotted their maid as she was leaving. As she got closer to Jessie, she took a look at the belongings she was carrying. "Ma'am. Are you going somewhere?" She questioned.
"Oh. Yes. I will be back tonight. I have some important work to do." She lied. She handed a paper to the maid. "When Din returns, give that to him. He might come home before me, so please make sure he receives it. Take care of the kids for me as well. They are asleep now."
The maid was unable to comprehend what was happening. Jessie's departure sounded more like it would be for good than just a short while.
"Okay, ma'am." She said. "I will do as you say."
"Thank you." She said with a smile as she turned for the door.
Din got home a little earlier and noticed how empty the house was. Normally, whenever he comes home, he will hear Jessie's voice. "Perhaps she's asleep," He wondered. He headed toward the stairs.
"Sir." Din paused to look at the maid who had called.
"Ma'am asked me to give you this." She gave him the paper that Jessie had given her. Din gave her a questioning look as he observed her. "She left a few hours ago. She said she had some work to do and would be back later tonight."
"What? She didn't tell me anything."
"Sir, something seemed off. Ma'am was carrying a bag. It was as if she were leaving and not coming back."
"Thank you for that. You may now leave." Din watched as the maid left and headed to their room. When he walked in, he noticed the kids were asleep. A smile curled across his face. Ever since they were born, he has been the happiest.
He sat on the bed and opened the paper. "Hey, my love. I'm aware that I'll be gone by the time you open this letter and start reading. I appreciate everything you have done for me and the desire you have to create this ideal family with me. I'm a bad mother for even considering leaving my kids to pursue my dreams. I hope that someday they won't despise me for the choice I made." It wasn't true. That was what he kept telling himself. Jessie was playing a prank on him. He kept saying that.
Din shook his head and continued to read. "You are a good man, and I wish for the day when everything makes sense. I hope that one day we will all come together as a family. I love you, Din Cooper, and you will always be my forever. You will always be the man I love, but if I don't follow my heart, nothing will make sense to me. Please look after our kids on my behalf, and tell them I love them a lot and will be back soon. Don't try to find me. By now, I would have traveled across the ocean. I love you. From Jessie."
As tears streamed down Din's cheeks, the paper dropped from his grasp. He won't be able to overcome this. He pulled out his phone and tried to call, but the call went to voicemail. "No Jessie. Why? Why will you leave me behind?" Din sat on the ground. With his hand over his face, he began sobbing in silence.
