Chapter 23
Raine’s POV
I knew I had feelings for Jade when she was seventeen.
I planned to wait until college to confess.
But while I waited, she announced she was going abroad with her uncle.
I couldn’t accept it–an unrequited love without even a chance to declare itself. How could I let go?
Maddox looked at me like I was an idiot: “You call her name when you’re drunk, like a broken record.”
I told him he didn’t understand. Never expressing these feelings would haunt me forever.
His expression turned melancholic: “Telling someone doesn’t necessarily change anything.”
Three months after she left for E
ngland, I finally carved out time from work to fly over.
Manchester was blanketed in heavy snow.
I waited below her building, snow piling on my shoulders, but I felt no cold.
Then she appeared, stepping through the snow, looking adorable.
Just as I moved forward, a young man called out to her.
Despite the bitter cold, he wore only a thin, cheap jacket.
Jade ran into his arms, crying uncontrollably.
I watched them embrace, pose for photos, envied by passersby.
From the illuminated second–floor window, Julian Storm stood watching everything, drink in hand.
I’d always hated his condescending manner–just three years older, yet acting so mature.
I returned home that night.
I wasn’t particularly heartbroken–just empty inside.
My confession remained unspoken, and as I’d predicted, it became my regret.
I threw myself into work, barely thinking of Jade.
But excessive hours took their toll. One careless moment led to a car accident.
My family ordered complete rest, suddenly leaving me with nothing but idle time for introspection.
