Chapter 25
Killian
I fucked up.
I should have told her the moment I found out about her bakery. Things were going so well between Marcella and me. Just yesterday, she opened up to me completely, giving me all of her trust and vulnerability. She gave me her love. But now, it feels like we're back to square one. I didn't even stop to think before giving her my phone. I was so consumed by the recent attack that Marcella's bakery completely slipped my mind. And now, because of my carelessness, everything has been ruined.
Anger coursed through my being. I left Marcella alone and stormed straight to the basement where Mateo and Alexandra were being held captive.
“Killian.” I could hear Jonah calling out for me distinctly, but I didn't care. My focus was solely on finding Mateo. When I entered the room where Mateo was being kept, his eyes widened with fear as he saw me approach. But without hesitation, I lunged at him, throwing punch after punch in a fit of rage.
I know i was throwing my anger at him but they have fucked up my life enough. He is as much to blame for the shit happening to us as is Tony. So yes, at that moment I blamed Mateo for everything that was happening. It was because of them that Marcella's bakery was no more, that her newfound love in me was threatened. And in that moment, fueled by anger and hurt, I took out all of my frustrations on Mateo. The room echoed with the sound of my fists colliding with his body, a physical manifestation of the pain and betrayal I felt.
“Stop plea— Please.” He grumbled.
But as I stood there, breathing heavily and looking down at the man lying battered on the ground, I realized that my actions had only made things worse. My outburst had not only hurt Mateo but had also jeopardized any chance of salvaging the situation with Marcella. In that moment of violence, I had let my emotions cloud my judgment, and I left her there alone.
But I now had to finish what I started. I turned around to take a breather only to see Jonah and Dom standing there. I looked at them and said, “You both have just today to get me Tonys location.”
I turned to leave, a plan forming in my mind.
I made a stop to where Rose was working. She looked at me with a worry in her eyes. She has not only raised us like her own, but now she has adopted Marcella as her own. I pulled on the drawer where she keeps all the spare keys and pulled one for my room.
I moved to Rose and wrapped an arm around her. I have never once shown her care but I had this overwhelming need to comfort her. “I will make this right.”
She nodded in my chest and I left her alone in the comfort of her kitchen and rushed up to the room.
I unlocked the door quietly and saw it was empty but the light shone from the bathroom. I turned the knob of the bathroom and saw her sitting with her back leaned back to the bathtub. Seeing her hurt broke my heart completely. I knew from the start I was bound to doom her but I tried. Tried to fix the whole situation. I knelt down in front of her but she still did not look up at me. I palmed her face and turned her face to look at me.Tears were streaming down her face, and I could see the pain and betrayal in her eyes.
"I'm so sorry," I whispered, feeling the weight of my actions crushing down on me. "I never wanted to hurt you."
She shook her head, her voice barely a whisper. "You should have thought about that before."
I knew she was right. I had been selfish, thinking only of myself and my own desires. I had dragged her into my mess, and now she was paying the price.
"I will make it right," I promised again, desperation in my voice. "I will fix this, I swear."
She spoke again and the anguish and hurt behind her words were harder to hear than anything else. “Its not the fact that my bakery is no more. It hurt more that you knew Killian. You knew for a week and you didn't think to tell?”
God she was breaking my heart. “Baby I wanted to tell you. I swear but the whole attack and Tony’s situation— I know that doesnt justify it.”
Suddenly Marcella’s head snapped up. She took a hold of my arms and sat up straight and ehr eyes widened. “Killian. I dont think my bakery is burnt.”
I shook my head at her. “No baby, I had my men go and confirm that it is.”
“No. How can you forget?” I got more confused about her train of thought. “Do you remember I was with Dom and we were seeing the footage of my bakery, when you got all angry?”
I stilled at her words. How could I forget that? She was right. If her bakery was burnt and Victor confirmed it, and so did her friend Lexi, what did we see in the footage?
“I will look into this baby. Come here.” I picked her up before she had a chance to understand what was happening. She yelped and immediately wrapped her arms around me and I could breathe again. I couldn't bear to see her sad because of me.
I walked her to our bed and sat her down. “Do you think your men lied? But Lexi won't lie. Is she working with Tony too? She said it was a gas leak that caused the fire. Killian, please call Dom.” She immediately stood up and started pacing. My own mind was jumbled up with what was going on.
Marcella suddenly rushed towards the door and in a flash she was out. I sighed and got up to follow her. If Tony was the one behind her, his death will be far worse then what i had originally planned.
She was so focused to get to Dom she smashed into Jonah. “Woaw, where's the fire at prezióso?”
“I have to find Dom. Where is he?”
“In his room maybe?” Jonah shrugged. Marcella rushed past him towards Doms wing and he turned to me. “What is going on?”
I sighed, my head pounding with whatever the fuck was going on. “I have no clue, just follow if you want to know.”
Marcella reached his room and just slammed opened it and stilled. I tilted my head at what happened and froze when a small ‘wow’ escaped her. I stormed behind her and came to a stop seeing a very shirtless Dom standing there looking equally confused at us.
“Put on your damn shirt.” I shouted and Marcella jumped at my voice. I turned my glare on her and she had the decency to look sheepish.
“Wait till you see what i have got here prezióso.” Jonah added his two fucking cents.
“Shut the fuck up Jonah.” He laughed at the anger in my voice.
“Now is not the time.” Marcella said and rushed inside. She told everything to Dom. “Do you think Lexi was lying?”
“Not she won't lie.” he grumbled back. He immediately went and took his laptop.
“How do you know she wont lie?” I asked.
She looked up from his laptop at me. “I just do.”
“Ohhkay but what happened then? Killian said his men confirmed its burnt. But we saw the surveillance footage ourselves.”
Dom didn't reply but he did start typing with utter concentration. After about ten minutes of Doms typing and Marcellas rambling, my head was going to explode. This day just won't end. I moved to Marcellas side and wrapped an arm around her. She slightly tensed at my touch but didnt pull away. I was counting that as a win.
After about another ten minutes Dom looked up. “I'm sorry Marcella but the bakery is no more.” Her shoulders dropped at his words.
“What about the footage we all saw?” I asked.
“We have a mole. He fucked up the survelliance from my laptop we had on Marcellas bakery. They changed the dates and everything. The video we saw was originally seven months old.” He started typing again. “Maybe on a day Marcella was not working. They used that clip.”
The pressure behind my eyes increased. It was one fucking thing after another.
“Can you find out who the mole is?” I asked, pressing the corners of my eyes with my thumb and finger to relieve some pressure.
“We can ask Mateo.” I nodded at Jonah's words and he left to get it started.
Marcella suddenly walked out the door. Tension radiating from her entire being.
I cursed and went to go after her when Dom stopped me. “We need to be careful Killian. No one out of the four of us should know.”
I nodded and left the room to go console my wife again. Once i get my hands on this fucker. He would wish he was dead before he betrayed me.
