Chapter 53: Where Am I?
Orely
I open my eyes slowly, my eyelids heavy as if I had been drinking all night. I blink a few times, trying to chase away the mists of unconsciousness, but as soon as the soft light of the sun's rays pierces the silk curtains, I realize I am lying on a huge bed, draped in satin sheets with light floral motifs. My eyes dart around the room, which is a masterpiece of luxury, furnished with contemporary wooden furniture and impressive paintings hanging on the walls. Holy cow! It must have cost a fortune!
A fresh floral fragrance wafts through the air, and as I turn my head, it comes from a large vase filled with white roses sitting on the large table by the window.
I don't understand anything anymore and I am trying to gather my thoughts. Why and how did I end up here? The last thing I remember is being kidnapped in a dark cave, struggling with all my strength and carried away by a menacing figure. I realize I am in a state of intense uncertainty, my memory disorder seeming to take over completely. My gaze is fixed, my movements somewhat disordered, as I try to remember what has happened to me. A menacing figure appeared in the shadows, silently approaching me.
Visibly frightened, this individual disturbed me, even making me lose my head, seeing blackness. I regained consciousness in this state of sudden but moderately lucid awakening, as if a shadow had broken through the veil of my slight amnesia to reveal this raw reality. Confusion hits me like waves, telling me I must be dreaming. I pinch myself so hard that a tear rolls down my right eye. I rise slowly, my feet touching the soft carpet, and decide to explore the room.
In a corner, a large silver mirror stands against the wall, reflecting my appearance. Lord! I see my hair in disarray and my eyes slightly dark-circles. This is a sumptuous room where every detail exudes luxury and delicacy. The walls are upholstered in powder pink velvet, glowing in the subdued light of a crystal chandelier suspended from the ceiling, its reflections twinkling like stars. I see a large bed, its headboard adorned with pastel-pink silk draperies, trimmed with cushions embroidered with gold thread, an invitation to dream and relax. Next to it, an elegant, finely carved lacquered-wood dressing table, featuring blown-glass bottles and embroidered velvet boxes, testifies to an exquisite taste for beauty and finesse.
On the dresser, an antique gilt-framed mirror gently reflects the room, while a crystal vase, filled with white roses and scented lilies, spreads a subtle, soothing fragrance. The pink velvet chair, with its curved lines and gilded details, invites you to read or meditate. On the floor, a small Persian wool rug with delicate patterns completes this oasis of luxury, where every element seems to have been chosen with care to create a dreamy universe of softness and elegance.
I evoke a strange feeling by analyzing every detail of a luxurious bedroom, associated with the color pink, suggesting a combination of surprise and contemplation. The color pink, which I love and which is often linked to softness, tenderness or wonder, reinforces the idea. I am impressed by the splendor of this place. My behavior of meticulously analyzing every aspect seems to be a way of passing the time, even if I am surprised by the scene in front of me. It reflects a curiosity mixed with a certain inner calm, where I try to appreciate every detail to prolong this moment of bored waiting.
I feel a deep sense of a palette of intense and complex emotions. This pink color, which remains static in my head, awakens a sense of vulnerability, contrasting with the gravity of the situation I find myself in. I feel a mixture of helplessness, fear and loneliness, as if I were trapped by a cruel fate that does not seem to want to leave me in peace. The feeling that this could only happen to me reinforces a sense of injustice or exclusion, as if fate were being particularly surreal, amplifying a feeling of abandonment and despair.
It is a symbol of mixed emotion, sweetness and pain, evoking the complexity of my feelings in the face of a heartbreaking reality. The color, usually soft and soothing, is here tinged with a darker shade, underlining the fragility of my state and the depth of my unease. This contrast, demonstrating the gravity of the situation, creates a powerful emotional tension, inviting reflection on human vulnerability in the face of adversity.
Suddenly, there are knocks heard, and the door opens with a slight creak. A maid enters, a tray laden with delicacies in her hand. Astonished, I watch the impeccably dressed woman, her face unruffled but courteous.
"Good morning, miss." She says in a soft, calm voice. I hope you slept well. Enjoy your meal, I will come back later.
I can't utter a word, my mind is swirling with questions. Why am I being offered breakfast in such a sumptuous place when I have been kidnapped? The maid places the tray on a small table, filled with fresh fruit, golden croissants and steaming coffee.
"Where am I?" I finally ask, in a trembling voice.
She looks at me, a slight smile on her lips.
"Don't worry, you are safe, mademoiselle. Enjoy your meal. I will be back later."
And with that, she leaves the room, leaving me alone with her thoughts. Anxiety mingles with confusion, and I wonder if I could really trust this situation. What if it is a trap? A ruse by these kidnappers to appease me before striking again? Since I have not eaten in hours, my stomach is rumbling. I set off to sit at the table. But my distrust wins out and I decide to go back to bed, thinking whether Santiago will once again be able to save me.
"Oh Lord, give me strength.." I whisper, my voice barely audible, but full of emotion. Every word is a plea, an ardent request to face the uncertainty that surrounds me. I close my eyes, striving to draw on the faith that has always guided me.
