Chapter 23: Premonition

“I don’t know, something’s off about that man” she said as she stared into blank space.

“How? Do you think he’s not telling the truth” Edgar said trying to find out exactly what she meant.

“I feel fear and uncertainty in my heart, I don’t know what it is but the more Donald spoke the more intense it became” she explained and Edgar gave Brandon a sign to leave them alone, he walked towards the door quietly.

“Calm down Elaine” Edgar said holding her hand in his.

“Where are you going Brandon?” She said with worry in her eyes.

“I’ll be leaving now, I have other duties to attend to” Brandon said with a small smile on his face

“Brandon! Be careful out there” Elaine said her eyes filled with worry.

“Yes my Lady” Brandon said bowing respectfully and closing the door slowly.

“Elaine, come on talk to me what’s wrong?.” Alex said but she didn’t move an inch.

“Eddy, you cannot trust that man, he is not genuine with you, he’s lying about something” she said not letting go of his hand.

“We’ll figure it out by tomorrow, come now you need to rest” he said and he took her to her room and helped her lie on the bed gently.

While she laid on her bed with her eyes closed, he stared at her and wondered why she was like this, she was a brave girl. This situation must be more intense than he thought it was, she felt a premonition of a bad omen and he needed yo thread carefully with whatever plan they had made to carry out in few days.

“Edgar, are you going?” She said with fear in her eyes when she saw him stand up to leave.

“Yes but I can stay if you want me to” he said walking back to the bed and sitting closer to her.

“Please stay, I cannot stay alone tonight” she said with emotions filled in her voice.

“The last time I felt like this was when my parents died, I didn’t feel this when your brother’s men came after me not first or the second time. The first time I had this feeling someone I love died” she said, her voice was shaky.

“It’s alright Sapphire” Edgar said reassuring her.

“I don’t want anything to happen to you Edgar, I’m counting on it” she said staring at him straight in the eye and his reaction surprised her.

“So you do love me?” Edgar said with a smile on his face and she raised her face to look at him.

“I didn’t say that” she said realizing that she just slipped up and told him how she felt.

“You didn’t have to, you already implied it” Edgar said grinning.

“I didn’t, you’re my friend, I care about you” she said removing her hands from his and looking away from his gaze, she was shy.

“Elaine, if what you meant was that you like me, I like you too” Edgar said and he saw her hide her face and blush.

“I can see you’re very fine and nothing will happen to you by morning, you can leave now” she said laying back on her bed and covering herself completely with the blanket.

Edgar kept on smiling, it was a relief that he now knew that she was also interested in him, he walked slowly towards the door and he turned to back to look at her.

“Good night Elaine” he said still smiling happily.

“Good night Eddy” she said from under the blanket that covered her whole body.

“Your Majesty, you called for me” he said bowing lowly.

“That was an hour ago, where have you been” Skylar asked looking very pissed.

“I have been with the traders and they have agreed to deliver five hundred of the parcel you requested” Jon said.

“I asked for a thousand and they intend to give me half of a thousand?” He said sounding very angry and he threw the glass of drink on the wall opposite him to vent.

“I tried to persuade them but they weren’t convinced, they claim to be having men missing this past few weeks” Jon said as his voice was very shaky.

“Set a meeting, I want to see their boss” he said staring into blank space.

“Yes my Lord” Jon replied.

“Also, set up a meeting of the council of Alphas, there’s not been one in months and besides I have some important business to discuss” Skylar said having a perfect plan in his mind.

He was going to embarrass Alexander in front of the council of alphas and he will make them turn against Alex and begin to back him and every proposition he might make to them about the lands. But first he had to make sure that Alexander and Sapphire are not aware of this meeting.

“Jon, send out the messengers quietly, I don’t want anyone to know about this, not even the guards that will escort us there” Skylar said with an evil smile on his lips.

“Yes my Lord” Jon replied.

“Let the games begin” Skylar said grinning widely.
