Chapter 46: CHAPTER 46

LYRA ANDREA SILVERTONGUE

The moment Kyle wraps his hands around my throat; it allows me a brief moment inside his thoughts. And the things I see are things no child is allowed to go through in the hands of a father.

Part of the reason while he releases his hands from my throat.

But the other things I see. The ones about my sister. It twists my intestines against each other and makes me want to puke.

Jade was every bit the monster they knew her to be.

The things she did with the black book; things I believe are next level impossible.

Jade made blood sacrifices of living things. From Crows, to Ravens, to new born calf. She even went as far as murdering her friend, all in the name of gaining power to summon the Dark One from the depths of Tartarus.

Yet, the memory I’m more concerned about is the man with the tattoo on his arm. The one they call, Culdron.

Kyle brows knit as he notices I may have touched something in him, so, I diverge to the present topic at hand to throw him off my path.

Something tells me he might not take it kindly upon me if he finds out I overstepped my boundaries.

But my conversation with Kyle takes a diversion when I feel the heat radiating from Dom’s body. It’s like the flesh from a burning furnace, but instead of the burnt flesh, a strong alluring scent like incense storms the air and fills the spaces in my lungs, till it’s all I breathe.

It floods heat through my body, and makes me bite down heavily on the right-bottom corner of my lips, as thick liquid pools between my thighs.

His eyes bleed from a dark shade into blood red, and something twist within me, like it’s trying to submit to its authority.

The lines running through his arms makes me want to groan, but the disgust within me is stronger than the unidentified feelings running through every fiber of my being.

Kyle notices the changes in his brother and shifts his attention to Dom, while it gives me a moment of thinking to consider my next choice of words, but the eyes of another is stagnant on me.

Lucian.

My brows knits at him, and even though they are siblings, a part of me has always hoped he kept our confrontation a secret. His eyes loosen, and there’s something in it. I can’t find a name for it, but it has me reaching out for it.

Kyle takes the black book and leaves with his brothers, and the minute they disappear from sight, there’s a cold, sweaty palms on the right side of my shoulder.

I turn my head to see a pale looking face, and wandering eyes gazing through the closed doors.

Clarisse.

“What in the seven was that, Lyra?” She asks, and I’m struggling to understand what she going on about.

“What do you mean, Clarisse?” I ask.

“I mean, I’ve been in this Academy longer before you, and I’ve seen what these boys can do when they consider you a threat,” she responds.

A minute later, a knock thuds on the door. Clarisse straightens her spine, but when the door comes open, there’s a girl with blue eyes and white hair standing behind them

Camile.

The knitting of her brows tells me of the confusion raging within her.

“You have no idea what you’ve done, Lyra,” she retorts, and I tilt my head at her in confusion.

“What do you mean, Camile?” Emily raises her voice for the first time since the Alpha guardians got into the apartment.

Camile tilts her head, gesturing for me to follow, and I put on my jacket and leave the den.

Camile takes me into the woods far away from the Academy, to a place where a large stone lays on the ground. But the thing about this place is that it looks familiar, like I have been here before. There are markings surrounding the stone, and the second my mind goes down memory lane, I remember where I’ve actually seen these markings.

When the Elder ones were gathered.

But why does Camile bring me here?

“Can you read the writing embedded in the stone, Lyra?” She asks, and I have to look twice at it before the words gather in my eyes and aligns perfectly so I understand what it is saying. Yet, the minute I read out the first word, my jaw drops, and I return my gaze back to Camile’s eyes.

“The Prophecy of the Comet.”

“That can’t be right,” I retort. “But the Morparma…”

“Is wrong,” Camile cuts in before I can finish my sentence. “Or, misleading.”

My brows knit as the air becomes warmer.

“But Clarisse…”

Camile raises a finger to her lips and shakes her head.

“She told you she got the book from her mother, right?” Camile asks, and I nod my head. “Well, guess what? She lied.”

“I don’t understand you, Camile,” I respond. “Why would Clarisse lie to me?”

Camile points to the stone and urges me to read further.

There’s a line that says “the false prophecy shall be delivered to the Raven, and she shall gather the Crowns of the Seven and place it in the hands of the betrayer.”

“Do you see, now?” Camile mutters. “Your sister was fed the same thing. Someone gave her the black book, and it corrupted her. The same way it will corrupt you.”

I take a second to weigh her words, but nothing made sense. All it does is open spaces for more questions in my mind.

Something in me doesn’t want to believe her. To trust her. But the fact that Camile is right about the book corrupting my sister, doesn’t make it any easier for me.

Still, how is she able to know the words I can only read?

“How did you come by this, Camile?” I ask, but she says only one name that has me spinning around on my heels.

Jade.

Camile lowers her eyes to the ground, as her words breezes past my ears.

“Jade wanted me to be her accomplice,” she lifts her eyes back to me, briefly before returning them back down.

She spins around as if there’s something hidden somewhere she’s looking for.

“It was here we had our first kiss.”

Her words circles and dives into my ears before I can grasp the full magnitude of it. A swallow slides down my throat, and the air stills for a second.

Camile walks down to me, clearing the spaces between us and places her hand on my right shoulder.

“I… I betrayed her, Lyra,” water gathers at the corners of her eyes as she struggles to bring the words out of her lips. “The Morparma… I…”

“You what, Camile?” I ask, but Camile’s gaze swings past me to the figure standing behind.

I turn around, and there’s a pale face staring at me in the face.

Clarisse.
