Chapter 20: In Danger
Lilac’s P.O.V
“Let go of me.” I moved onto the other side of the bed, trying to dodge Alpha Elijah as he moved to cage me against the wall. “No…”
I had been wrong about him before. He may not look like it, but he was strong as an Alpha, strong enough to overpower me within seconds.
I hadn't even had time to understand what was happening before he had pulled me inside his room and started to kiss my neck. No matter how hard I had tried to push him away, it hadn't seemed to be working. He was stronger, much stronger than I had expected.
“Let go of me! Please…” I begged, just as he caught a hold of my ankle and hauled me under him across the bed.
“You think you can reject me and get away?” Alpha Elijah scoffed. “Krimson is getting a huge deal from me. Getting to have you in return is just a little price to pay, don’t you think?”
I shook my head vigorously, refusing to believe that Krimson would stoop so low as to sell me off, no matter how much he hated me. He wouldn’t do this, even to the woman he loathed. He wouldn’t…
“Tell me little girl… are you a virgin?” Elijah leaned in closer to my neck, sniffing me in a way that made me very uncomfortable. “Because I think you are.”
His smile as he looked at my body hungrily while licking his lips…it made me curl onto myself, pressing my thighs together in defence.
I wasn’t going to let this happen, no matter how hard I had to fight to get free from him…even if it’s the last thing I do! I wasn’t going to let this happen!
Elijah’s hands travelled down from my shoulders, down my arm and to my waist... and I felt myself freeze up once again. I couldn’t control it; this fear that made my heart almost burst out of my chest…it was so strong, so potent…almost like I’d experienced this before…
He leaned in to try to kiss me and I immediately moved my head to the side to avoid his lips so that they ended on my cheek instead. Folding my lips, I shut my eyes tight to avoid it…but it made it worse because I didn’t see the slap coming, only felt it across my cheek and tasted the blood inside my mouth as my lips got nicked by my teeth.
“You bitch!” Elijah cursed, grabbing a hold of my hair to yank my head up. “You think you can get away so easily? I was going to go easy on you, but not anymore.”
I barely had time to react as another slap landed on my cheek, snapping my head to the side.
I saw stars in front of my eyes as I opened them a tiny bit, because keeping them closed wasn’t an option. And that was when he started to yank my hands away from my chest, trying to reach for the buttons of my shirt.
“NO!”
“GET OFF HER!”
The roar came from the doorway as I heard the door slam into the wall.
Startled, Elijah let me go and jumped aside to look at the intruder, just as I did the same.
“Liam!” The words came out as a whisper, my eyes still hazy from the hits I had taken, but there was no mistaking his tall, lean form as he barged into the room and headed straight for Alpha Elijah.
“You fucking scumbag!” Liam shouted and the next thing I know, he hit Elijah hard enough that he was laying on the floor the next instant, a look of shock on his face before it turned to anger.
Before Elijah could get up from the floor, Liam was already in front of me, taking off his jacket and draping it over my shoulders. “Are you okay?” He asked me, his hands trembling as he cupped my cheeks. “Are you hurt? Did he hurt you?”
I looked up into his eyes unmoving, unable to say anything. The words seemed stuck inside my throat, unable to get out…
How could I tell him that it wasn’t Elijah who was the cause of my hurt? How could I tell him that the man who had sold me off to him was none other than my mate? The man who refused to acknowledge me…refused to protect me…hated me so much to the point that he didn’t care what happened to me?
But before I could say any of it, I felt my eyes widen as I saw Elijah behind Liam, holding up a glass jar in his hands.
Without thinking, I grabbed him by the collar so he fell on top of me and turned sideways so my arm was covering Liam’s body…and then I heard the noise of the glass shattering on top of me.
I opened my eyes slowly, looking at Liam in confusion; his eyes were wide in surprise as he looked me up and down. I felt his arms around me, holding me close to his chest just as I held onto him for protection…but something was wrong…
It didn’t hurt…
The glass…I’d heard it shatter…there were shards of glass all over the bed, all over our bodies…but why didn’t it hurt?
And that’s when I felt something warm and wet drip onto my arm.
My head snapped up at that moment…and I felt my breath leave my lungs.
Krimson was standing over us; one of his arms clawed around Elijah’s throat as he lifted the man off the ground…while his other was in front of us. A shard of glass stuck to his wrist as blood dripped down the wound…and I knew that he had been the one to block the attack…he had been the one to save us…to save me.
“Liam!” Beta Luca’s voice came from the door, snapping our attention towards him. “Lilac? Are you two alright?”
“Yes.” Liam slowly got up from the bed, carefully dusting off the shards of glass from us as he pulled me up with him.
My legs trembled and I felt out of breath, but thankfully, this time Beta Luca was there to catch me when I missed a step.
“It’s alright, I got you.” He picked me up into his arms instantly, lifting me with ease like I weighed nothing. “I got you.”
He took me out of the room, with Liam following close behind.
I tried to see what was happening inside the room till the very end, but Krimson had his back to me, so I couldn’t see his face.
But he came…didn’t he? He came for me?
But I squashed that thought as soon as it started to give hope to my heart.
Yes, he had come for me…but wasn’t it because of him that I was in danger in the first place?
