Chapter 84 BIG LITTLE SECRET

Chapter 84 BIG LITTLE SECRET
ALISANDER'S POV

Fuck the both of them!

I narrow my eyes at the fucker. “And what if I am?”

His lips part slightly, as if he's shocked at his own conjecture.

Not a smart cookie is he?

“Well that would explain everything honestly...”

My pulse remains steady but inside, something cold unfurls in me.

Just how many more were there?

Is he the one that orchestrated the whole attack? Was he working with a group?

Because apparently, this was no chance encounter or coincidence.

He had been waiting for me.

And now the bastard is me looking at me with glee like he has finally found what he came for.

The forest holds its breath around us as I try to will in any ounce of panic from Sebastian back inside me.

I wonder if he's going to be some sort of threat to me later on.

His grip tightens on me not painfully, but with unmistakable certainty and authority.

Fuck all the Alphas and their stupid sense of authority they all carried in their ass.

“Tell me,” he murmurs as his eyes start searching mine with an unsettling intensity, “does Ragnar know exactly what you are?”

My blood runs cold and I see that he notices how pale I've become.

His stupid smug grin transforms into a full on smile.

I've just given myself away.

Fuck!

SEBASTIAN’S POV

What just happened?

I can feel mud seeping through my clothes making me feel all damp and sticky all over.

But the more pressing issue to me right now, is that I cannot breathe properly.

There is weight on me.

A lot of weight.

It's a warm and solid weight.

My eyes snap open, and the world tilts out of balance before everything comes into focus now.

There's a very warm weight of a person on me.

A stranger.

An Alpha.

Right on top of me.

“What the hell?!” The words burst out of my mouth before I could even stop them. “Personal space! Do you not know what that is?!”

He doesn’t move or even flinch from my outburst.

His golden eyes study me like I’m a puzzle he intends to take apart piece by piece just for curiosity

Behind my eyes, at the very back of my mind, Alisander goes awfully silent.

And not his usual brooding silence, but this time, it's the “I’m absolutely abandoning you to deal with this kind of  silence.”

“You fucking coward,” I hiss internally at him.

There's no form of response from him, it's almost like he's gone to sleep.

“Traitor.”

The Alpha tilts his head slightly, still pinning my wrists into the mud with effortless pressure.

“You’re not the one I was speaking to,” he says very calmly.

My stomach drops.

“I– ehm,  excuse me?!” My voice cracks in indignation and anger.

Who fucking cares about that right now?

“You are literally lying on top of me. I think that makes me the one you want to be speaking to!”

His gaze sharpens as if searching my face with an unsettling intensity.

“Simply fascinating,” he murmurs.

I do not like that word, especially when it's directed right at me.

“Get. Off,” I demand with clenched teeth and try to shove him off. My hands do not move even an inch.

But my dignity, however, continues its rapid decline to hell

“Where did he go?” the Alpha asks, looking confused.

I blink.

“Who?”

“You know, your wolf.”

My heart stutters in shock.

Oh goddess.

“He’s… resting,” I lie weakly.

The Alpha’s brow lifts.

“Resting.”

“Yes,” I insist. “He does that. Very… restful of him.”

“You are embarrassing us,” Alisander finally mutters in my head.

“Oh, so now you speak?!”

The Alpha leans closer and his scent floods my senses.

“You both can switch,” he says quietly. “Consciously too.”

My mouth opens and closes.

I try to find a plausible excuse or explanation but I just come short

I settled for: “Could you please stop laying on me while conducting your interrogation, hmm?”

To my absolute horror, the corner of his mouth twitches in amusement.

This bastard is actually amused.

“I am just ensuring you don’t run.”

“Run?!” I sputter. “I tripped over a visible root five minutes ago! Trust me, I cannot run even if I wanted to.”

“That was really strategic of you,” Alisander mutters dryly.

“Shut up traitor.”

The Alpha studies me for another long moment and then, he finally shifts his weight on me.

Not off of me, but just enough that I can breathe without feeling like my lungs are being negotiated for a ransome.

Progress. It's a small but humiliating progress.

“Your wolf,” he continues, “is definitely not belonging to an Omega.”

My brain short-circuits as he says that.

Well that would explain everything, starting with the fact that we are nothing alike.

My wolf, currently hiding like a dramatic aristocrat avoiding taxes, says nothing all the while.

“I–uhm–I know–” I flounder about with my words. “We’re… kind of complicated.”

That earns me a full, open look of curiosity in his eyes.

“Complicated in which manner?”

“Emotionally,” I blurted out without thinking it over “Spiritually and existentially. You just pick one.”

Alisander snorts in my head.

The Alpha’s eyes narrow slightly at me. “I want him to answer me. Not you.”

My stomach flips inside me

“He’s shy,” I say quickly, a bit too much

I can feel Alisander bristling in the back of my mind.

“You just called me shy.”

“Well tough luck! You abandoned me!”

The Alpha’s gaze flicks over my face, searching for something I cannot hide in me.

“And Ragnar?” he asks softly as if concerned. “Is he aware of this… a complication of yours?”

My throat goes dry.

Ragnar.

“I don’t see how that’s your business,” I say, trying and failing to sound brave.

I don't know what's the deal of silence between Alisander and Ragnar, but I know it's not any of these cockroaches' business.

The Alpha’s grip tightens slightly, not hurting me but just reminding me of his questions.

“It becomes my business,” he says, “when an ancient wolf of centuries ago hides inside the body of an Omega bonded to  the Alpha of Alphas.”

My entire soul leaves my body.

Ancient.

Ancient.

Ancient.

Inside me, Alisander goes very, very still.

So is this the secret they've been keeping from me?
