Chapter 75 A PROMISE OF REVENGE
RAGNAR'S POV
THAT DAMNED WOLF!!!!
Now he's the reason Sebastian’s in this state.
My gaze drops back to Sebastian.
There’s a sharp metallic scent clinging to him beneath the blood, it's that Damned herb.
It's the reason his healing is taking time to kick in.
Sebastian is practically a human with how slow his wolf healing is going on about it.
It had to be Alisander that would egg him on to take that drug, what was he thinking?
Even for an Alpha, it was certain death for anyone who consumed it so why would he take it knowing fully well that he's an Omega?
Is he even an Omega?
He doesn't act or behave like one, hell I haven't even seen Betas with half as much guts as Alisander and yet that idiot is just an Omega.
Why would he ignore everything and risk their lives like this?
Does he think he's stronger than death?
I can't wait till I can have a proper talk down to Alisander, how dare he even think of much less do this?
And how the hell does he know about Acmonite? It was banned centuries ago for this reason.
And Sebastian–
Oh goddess.
From the injuries all over him, Sebastian fought like something cornered him, it's too close to pack territory so there should be no Rogues so who was it that did this?
I slide one arm beneath his shoulders and carefully turn him onto his back as he makes a small, broken sound.
My chest caves inward as I wince at that.
“I’m here,” I whisper.
His face is pale beneath the bruising but now his breathing is shallow and steady.
The bond flickers faintly at my touch but I ignore the implications.
Every moment until we complete every step and go all the way in the mating bonding and ritual would feel like torture to us.
But it's not the time for that right now, Sebastian is very close to meeting the moon goddess unless I can get him to a healer promptly.
I sense a few things from the bond. I sense fear coming from him even as he's unconscious.
“Shh… it's okay Sebastian, I'm here.”
I press my forehead against his to try and calm him down.
The next thing I'm feeling… is guilt.
It doesn't require rocket science to know who that's coming from.
At least the bastard feels some form of remorse and guilt for what he's done to Sebastian
“You survived,” I murmur fiercely. “You hear me? You’re okay, you survived.”
My thumb brushes over the bruising at his throat.
It looks like someone's fingers, someone tried to choke him.
My vision darkens at the thought.
The earth beneath my knees cracks from the force of my restraint I'm holding on to.
I gather him into my arms carefully like he's made from something fragile, like glass.
He’s lighter than he should be, too light.
What was he eating?
Is he even eating?
His head lolls against my chest, smearing more blood across my skin but I couldn't be bothered about it.
We must look like creatures risen from slaughter and carnage with the amount of injuries and blood on us.
But I don’t care, we need a healer right now!
We need Richard, where the hell is he?!
A few wolves linger at the edge of the clearing again, watching and murmuring as they take in the sight of the both of us.
I lift my head slowly and address them.
“If anyone knows who orchestrated this,” I say quietly, “you will speak right now.”
The threat isn’t shouted, it doesn’t need to be.
They feel it right to their bones of what I'll do to whoever did this.
They see the blood and a few back away in fear.
One younger wolf swallows and steps forward. “We–we found him like that, Alpha. The rogue was already dead.”
So they found him like this, he was alone.
Wait.
Did they just say Rogue?
My jaw tightens in anger.
Of course he was attacked by a Rogue.
I press my forehead gently to Sebastian’s and the bond steadies for just a fraction.
“You don’t fight alone against a Rogue next time,” I murmured against his skin.
I rise to my feet with him cradled against my chest.
The wolves part without being told as I walk really quickly towards the medical bay. Every step back toward the pack grounds feels different.
It's heavier, colder and with determination.
Even down to fifty miles past MoonCrest pack borders, you won't find a single Rogue because of the routine monthly clearing and sweeping exercises my pack Deltas go through.
So how is it so that still in my borders, a Rogue was found?
Between the border and the pack are several battle ready and dangerous pack border enforcers that would kill any Rogue on sight without reporting to me first.
Who brought this Rogue into my pack and let it free in my borders?!
Have I been so lenient and calm that all of a sudden everyone thinks they get to have a say or to do whatever they want concerning my pack?!
And this wasn’t just a rogue wandering too close or any coincidence, this was some sort of provocation and I'm the target.
They're trying to test me.
They don’t understand something, I'm only the “calm and peaceful” Alpha of Alphas so long as I am happy and there is peace.
But this?
This wasn't an act of peace on my behalf, this is war.
And as I carry Sebastian through the forest with his blood drying against my skin, I make a promise to the silent trees.
The challenge will happen just as they like it.
The laws will be rewritten just as I've said and the council will have no other choice but to obey and bow to my decision.
But whoever dared or has dared to touch what is mine,
Will not live long enough to see the outcome of it.
It was time to cull the realm.
The bond pulses faintly again as if in agreement with my decision.
I tighten my hold around him as I reassure myself that he's well and alive.
“Stay with me Sebastian,” I whisper and break into a full run towards the healing bay praying to everything that Richard is there.
Because if that bond snaps or if anything happens to Sebastian.
Then, there will be no more council left to argue with and no more Alphas to challenge me.
There will only be ruin with blood and death as heads will roll.
And I will be the one who brings it.
