Chapter 53 CHAPTER 53
ROMAN'S POV
Couple of minutes after she left I remained where I was. Partly speechless as to what had happened, how it happened. Soon after, I left the pool though. But the scene, it didn't leave my mind.
It couldn't leave.
At first my actions before all of these were just to tease her, rile her up until she maybe admitted to being wrong about Oxygen. That she actually enjoyed it. I mean she got a membership to explore the grounds.
It was also reason for the porn stunt I pulled, although I didn’t expect it to work so well and reveal a whole lot. It was like getting a front row seat to watch a potent flower unveil it’s colors, Or a snail gradually crawl out from it’s shell deciding it was time to move.
At any rate it was irresistible. I couldn’t resist. So by morning at the office, I sent stuff to her, called her, anything to get her boiling and face the obvious elephant in the room.
But she still didn’t.
Didn’t even come looking for me, glaring and what not. Then that’s when I realized something;
Avoidance.
She was avoiding me. To be more precise, she was ignoring me. Ignoring everything she did the previous night, it's significance and even giving me the silent treatment. What could be more exciting than that?!
Now I wouldn’t let her get away. I wouldn’t have her hiding, since I knew she had this side to her, had interest, I only needed to major on it and boom! Game gets even more exciting.
Hilarious really.
I was thoroughly amused, deciding to leave for the house earlier than usual. A plan already forming in mind on how to handle her, but Jordan decided to ruin my mood.
“Boss, we’re leaving?” He came as I pocketed my phones.
“Yes,” I’d said simply, turning around to leave. He followed me.
“Boss it’s still early. There are no pending meetings, and we’ve handled Maculey. Later tonight the cash will be sent in.”
“Hmm,” I nodded, still leaving.
“Boss,”
“Boss,”
“Boss you-
“It’s close of work Jordan” I faced him, paused. “Time to get off work. Everyone will leave soon, we’re doing the same.”
“But you’ve never left this early. Not without having a meeting.”
I haven’t?
I actually haven’t.
Still, “We’re leaving.” I said to him, turning back around. Getting into elevator, he did same too. No more words, but I knew he’d already decoded it.
By the time we arrived at the car, getting in, he said it.
“I don’t want to intrude boss, but… I think you shouldn’t make it so obvious.” His eyes found mine. In the rear view mirror. Respectful. Calm. Cautioning. “There are eyes watching. You left early last night, in the middle of the night, and you’re leaving now. Heading to the house. Again. It won’t be good if people found out boss. Not for her.”
Not for her.
Hmm.
That made sense a bit.
It stuck with me, and at the end I decided against what I initially had in mind. Rather just spending a normal evening at the house, at the pool. To clear my head.
But who knew I'd have company. That she would come over too.
It was unexpected. Quite amusing too as somehow she couldn't tell I was in the pool also. I mean how couldn't she? Was it another ignoring me bit she was doing? Right in front of me??
I couldn't let that happen. So against my better judgement, I hit the water towards her. Catching her attention and for sure, she looked surprised. But also uninterested as she stared at me.
Have you ever seen a creature more amusing??
She was in my house, right under my roof, my grounds, using my pool and yet was uninterested in having a simple conversation with me.
Let's not even get started on her pathetic swimming skills.
"Ridiculous really," I chuckled in remembrance, shaking off the memories again. Jordan's eyes finding mine right then through the rear view mirror. Curious. Suspicious.
I just comported myself then. Clearing my throat and putting the phone away. I wasn’t concentrating on it anyway.
So far it's been more than a few days. A few days since the pool scene happened and…
I haven't seen her.
More correctly, she was ignoring me more than ever. I'd been too busy with meetings to focus on her anyways. But fate worked in mysterious ways, doesn't it?
"Who's that?" I asked, looking forward as we gradually approached a cab in the near distance. Not too far from the estate entrance.
"It's Monroe, Boss." Jordan answered, driving closer to the cab and then passing it. Just in time for me to see her step out of it though, searching her purse for cash.
Meaning she was just getting home from work, and now with the fact that we’d driven past her, I was surely going to get in before her.
Not if I took a decision though.
Some moments spent idle, silence in the air, Jordan driving off to the designated parking-lot, a few minutes more and there.
She showed up.
Her eyes instantly finding mine in the open elevator I'd intentionally paused when I got in.
"Good evening, sir." She greeted as she got in, professional. Strict. Only then did I let the doors go. Locking us both in and moving up to our floors. Silence in the air.
The very first time I was seeing her since the pool, this moment.
"You look nice," I complimented, calm. She shifted, not sparing me a glance, just giving a stiffly thank you in response.
Classic Alina.
She was probably regretting her actions at the pool.
It did catch me off guard, I still remembered how she looked. How it felt.
Did she?
I looked over to her again. Taking in the black tailored dress she had on, squared neckline, boobs fairly visible, black heels, black bag. Totally normal. But her overall body aura gave her off.
She stood stiff. Too stiff. Not a hair out of place, composed, but I could see her breathing had changed. However calm she looked, she was unsettled. I was unsettled looking at her.
"You're uncomfortable," I commented, looking ahead. To the doors. The elevator still moving. Barely 90 seconds movement, and somehow it felt longer right now.
She didn't respond to me. I looked at her again, noticing she'd taken a silent deep breath. Somewhat holding her breath now, doing a count down most definitely. So rude.
What, she couldn’t handle staying in the elevator with me for few seconds??
"Stop doing that you'll turn blue," I cautioned, suddenly annoyed. "You always hold your breath when you're uncomfortable. I told you not to do that. Didn’t I, AL?"
Her head snapped to me right then. Brown eyes wide and mirrored with several silent warnings.
The doors opened right then. Her words following instantly.
"Stop remembering things about me, Mr.Ward. I do not apprecaite such familarity.”
'Mr. Ward?' I turned to her, irked.
It's no longer sir now?
"Why don't you stop being so memorable, Miss Monroe? They'll be no familiarity then.”
"What?" Her lips parted, speechless but I walked right out. Leaving her in there as I headed to my own elevator.
Not even knowing why I said that.
