Chapter 122: Mornings
With his words, Laura moved towards him and grabbed his hand in hers.
“I'm sorry, I have been working since. I was just about to head to bed.” She said with a small smile as she reached to arrange the strands of hair on his hair.
“It's fine.” He said as he returned her smile.
“Anyways, I think I'm done with work now so let's head back to bed now, shall we?” She pulled his hand as they headed back to the room.
“What about your water?” Leo suddenly asked and Laura turned to him.
“What?”
“You said you were going to get water earlier, didn't you?”
Laura blinked before she remembered the ridiculous excuse she had given earlier. “Ohh, yeah.” She said with an awkward smile. “Coming to think of it, I'm not that thirsty anymore.”
“Are you sure?”
She nodded. “I am. Don't worry about that and let's go to bed.”
Neither of them said anything as they returned to the room while Laura silently gave a sigh of relief.
That was close.
The next day came in a flash of an eye and Laura felt as if she had not even slept up to 30 minutes before she felt the morning line shine through the curtains and straight at her eye.
Pulling herself up from the bed, she turned to Leo who was still peacefully sleeping besides her. Smiling brightly at his face, she leaned towards him as she used her hand to brush away the gentle strands of hair that fell to his forehead. This was the first time ever the both of them had slept in the same bed. Even while they were married, they both owned separate rooms. While Laura stared at him for a while before deciding to go freshen up and make breakfast before Leo would wake up.
It didn't take her much time to clean up and step out of the bathroom. Leo surprisingly was still in bed and Laura couldn't help but smile at that.
How was a CEO such as himself still in bed by that time?
Although he had told her last night that he was exhausted from the work he had to do for his grandfather. Laura guessed that to be the reason. Deciding not to wake him up, she quickly searched for something simple and comfy to throw on herself before she excited the room.
While she was preparing some simple breakfast which consisted of just some eggs, bread and other side dishes, she began to think back on the last time she had actually decided to make breakfast by this time of the day. Usually, she would be dressing up by now to get to work and would probably get some coffee and donuts as a source of breakfast for her. Many at times, she barely had time such as she did now to do things like that.
While she fried the eggs which were burning on a low heat, she moved to grow, check the toast and the coffee that was still brewing.
“Okay, I think that should be enough.” She muttered to herself as she turned off the fire and prepared to set the plates.
“Hey you.” A hand immediately wrapped around her which gave her a small fright at first before she realized it was Leo.
“For Christ's sake, you really need to stop showing up behind me unexpectedly.” She said as she turned around in his arms. He smiled at her while she caressed his face lightly. “Good morning.”
“You're up early.” He said as his eyes moved towards the eggs. “Do you usually wake up this early to prepare breakfast?”
Laura chuckled. “Actually no. Although I do wake up early to prepare for work.” She said as she cleaned his eyes. “Did you sleep well?”
He nodded. “What time would you be leaving for work?” He asked
“Well, I don't have much to do this morning so I have some time to spare.” She told him. Then she stared back at the eggs she had been preparing earlier. “Breakfast?”
“Sure.” He said as he loosened his hold around her.
“What about you? Wouldn't you be going to work?” She asked as she picked up the frying pan
“I would. But I have to go back home first to change into something else.” He said as he sat on one of the stools in front of the middle kitchen island.
Laura scoffed. “Why come empty handed when you knew you had the intention of spending the night?” She asked as she placed the cup of coffee in front of him. “Where are you expecting to wear my clothes?”
Leo chuckled lightly. “Well that isn't a bad idea actually. The only difference is that I have broader shoulders than yours.”
“You're ridiculous.” She said with a wide smile on her lips. Then she moved to place the plate of eggs and beacon in front of him and went back for the toast.
“What about you?” She heard him ask.
“What about me?” She glanced back at him.
“I mean, there's only one breakfast here. Didn't you make any for yourself?” He asked as she placed the toast in front of him.
“Well,” she moved around to take a seat on the stool next to his. “I'm not a fan of eating so early in the morning.” She told him. “It's probably going to affect my whole system if I even think of stuffing myself with anything.”
“Well, you don't necessarily need to stuff yourself before eating something, you know.” He said as he picked up one of the toast and brought it to her mouth.
She chuckled. “What exactly are you doing?”
“What does it look like? Feeding you obviously.” He said as he shook the bread that still hung in the air. “I promise not to stuff you with it.”
“It's totally fine, Leo. I could just make another for myself if I wanted to, rather than shortening your ration.”
Leo shook his head. “Who ever said anything but shortening anyone's ration? I'm the one feeding you so you really need to stop overthinking everything I choose to do.”
With that, he stretched the bread closer than it began touching her lips subtly. A light chuckle escaped her lips as she finally opened her mouth and took a small chunk of it into her mouth while Leo watched her slowly.
“How is it?” He asked
“You're asking like you're the one who made it.” She said, covering her mouth as she chewed slowly.
“Well, I'm the one feeding you, am I not?” He picked up the cup of coffee and moved it over to her mouth.
“You can't be serious.”
“You're only going to let my hands hurt by holding it in the air.” He said with a sheepish smile.
Laura on the other hand huffed. “You're unbelievable.” She held on to the cup and took a small sip of the coffee before handing it back to him.
“See; it isn't that hard to have breakfast, is it?”
She rolled her eyes. “You better eat fast otherwise we'd both be late for work.”
Leo chuckled as he stuffed his mouth with some eggs.
Some hours had passed while Laura and Leo had parked at their various offices. Leo had dropped Laura at work first before leaving back to his apartment.
He decided to park outside as he wouldn't be wasting so much time inside anyways. Stepping down from his car, he shut the door behind him and made his way towards the gate.
Suddenly he heard a whistle from behind him which pulled his attention back but before he could register anything, something flying in the air with such speed immediately hit hard against one of his eyes.
“Fuck!” He covered his eyes with the strike of pain that it trailed through him. Staring down at the object which rolled towards his leg, he noticed a baseball and he picked it up. “Hey! Who threw this!”
He stared around but there was no one around besides himself. He groaned again as he could feel a headache forming in one side of his head where the impact had made contact with.
What idiot would throw a ball for no reason in broad daylight?
Leo moved to trash the ball in the waste bin that was some meters away from his apartment.
There was no mistake. There when was most definitely going to bruise.
