Chapter 12: Elena and William Sterling
Elena Sterling carried the grace of a life well-lived etched into her gentle features. Her once vibrant eyes now hold profound wisdom, mirroring the resilience that has defined her journey.
Her silver hair cascaded softly, a testament to the passage of time, and her warm smile brings comfort to those around her.
Despite the toll of her illness, her spirit remained strong.
"Hi Mum."
He bent down to hug her where she sat.
She planted a dozen kisses on his face.
"Don't call me a baby."
"You'll always be my baby," Elena teased.
"How are you, Mum?"
"I'm good, honey. I'm so happy you're here. It's been too long."
"I was here a couple of days, Mum," he said, laughing.
"It's too long for me," his mother said.
"You know what, I'll spend the weekend with you."
"You mean that?" she asked, knowing how Adrian and his father didn't get along.
"Anything for my Mum."
"Thanks honey."
Adrian shared a truly heartwarming and delightful evening with his ailing mother, Elena. As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm golden glow across the room, they sat together in the cozy living room, surrounded by cherished memories and comfort. The soft crackling of a fireplace filled the air, providing a soothing ambiance.
They reminisced about the wonderful moments they had shared throughout the years, laughing. Elena's eyes sparkled with love and pride as she listened to Adrian's stories of his accomplishments, finding solace in the fact that her son had grown into a compassionate and caring man.
They spoke of dreams, hopes, and the beauty of life's simple pleasures, finding joy in each other's company.
As the evening progressed, they turned to old family photo albums, retracing the steps of their lives together. Stories of their adventures, challenges they overcame, and the love that bound them closely together filled the air.
In those precious hours, time seemed to slow down, allowing them to savor every moment together. Adrian held his mother's hand, a silent assurance of his unwavering support and love.
The evening culminated with Adrian reading a book aloud, a tradition from his childhood that brought a sense of comfort and nostalgia. The gentle cadence of his voice, combined with the soothing atmosphere, enveloped Elena in a cocoon of peace.
As the night drew to a close, Adrian kissed his mother's forehead, expressing his gratitude for the magical evening they had shared. Elena smiled warmly, feeling the love and connection that transcended any ailment. It was a night they both treasured deeply, a beautiful reminder of the power of love and the strength found in each other's presence.
Morning came too soon.
He wasn't well rested. He kept tossing and turning all night. His hands searching for Sharon's warm body on the bed. He opened his eyes to find himself alone in his old bedroom. As he got out of bed, he felt his erect morning wood harder than usual.
"She's not here," he hissed down at it.
He went to the bathroom to clean up and get ready for the day.
He met his parents at the breakfast table. His father, William Sterling, arrived home after Adrian and Elena had gone to bed. His Dad was not supposed to be home, he was due to be back the following week. That was one of the reasons he decided to spend the weekend with his mother, hoping they would be alone.
He kissed his mother good morning.
"Hi Dad," he greeted his father and sat opposite Elena.
"Why didn't you call me?" his father attacked. Not responding. "I was hoping to meet you at the merger conference? We had to cancel because of your absence."
"I'm not interested, Dad."
"Not interested…," William clanged his cutlery on his plate.
"Yes, I don't want to merge with the Everdeens'," Aiden said, looking at his father in the eyes. He had rejected the merger several times because of the underlying conditions.
"This merger will take place, or so help me God…" William exclaimed.
"I will never marry her!" Adrian blurted out, banging his fist on the table.
As his fist collided with the table, a resounding thud echoed through the room. The sharp sound reverberated, creating an atmosphere of tension and anger. The impact sent ripples of agitation through the Adrian's body, bringing out frustration and suppressed emotions.
The table trembled, its contents quivering as if mirroring the turmoil within Adrian's mind. The forceful gesture left a physical mark on the table's surface, leaving behind a faint dent, an indelible reminder of the outburst. This powerful act of defiance captured the essence of Aiden's inner struggle, hinting at deeper conflicts yet to unfold.
