Chapter 77

We walk out of the restaurant with Harry's arms hanging off my shoulder. The food was so good and it was just great to get out and do something for once. Harry and I managed to sit through a whole two hours without arguing which was nice. I know we got into a bit of a banter but it was harmless and casual. I have to wrap my head around the fact that he and I are literal opposites. We are always going to disagree over certain beliefs- such as Christmas.

I know he had a hard past, he really doesn't get into much detail about it because he's Harry but from what tiny info he's told me is enough to prove that he wasn't a loved child. He never got to experience things like Christmas and birthdays, so I can't get angry at him for being so cold about certain things.

"Thank you for dinner." I look up next to him and smile.

"It was nice, yeah?" He looks down and asks while we walk down the dark street that's dimly lit from the thousand light bulbs in the so called 'sky'. I nod in agreement while linking my feet across the dirt and looking up at the tall rocky ceilings.

"You know-" I begin. "As much as this underground scenery is creative and gorgeous, I do miss the stars." I whisper while keeping my eyes up to everything above me.

"I know what you mean. When I was ten, I was living in a foster home. At night I would crawl out my bedroom window and to the vines that littered up the side of the house. I'd quietly climb up to the roof and lay looking at the stars until I fell asleep. I remember the old shingles staples to the roofs being so rough and uncomfortable but I didn't care." He confessed while looking up at the hanging lightbulbs.

I look up at Harry as he looks up at the sky, letting his thoughts spill out to me. A small smile creeps up my lips as I keep my eyes glued to his tranquil state.

"Why would you go through all that trouble to lay on the uncomfortable roof?" I ask as we keep walking down the quiet street.

"I really don't know, I think I just needed an escape. I was quite a burden to that group home- the one that caused all the trouble. I probably got strapped every other day for something I did but once I sat on that roof I felt invincible, like no one could touch me." He murmurs.

My heart slowly breaks by his calm words that's he's made peace with.

"Oh- well I'm sorry." I whisper.

"Theirs nothing to be sorry about love. I didn't tell you so you could pity me." He looks down at me and furrows his eyebrows together.

"I know- it's just very unfortunate." I murmur.

He chuckles lightly and nods, "Yeah I guess you can say that."

"So how long were you in that foster home for?" I ask.

"Five six years I think before jail, then technically two years after jail but I dipped and lived on my own at that point." He actually answers.

"Wow, was anyone ever close to adopting you?"

"Fuck no. Like I said, I was a burden to the foster home. I was the shit disturber of the kids and no perfect parents ever wanted that." He shakes his head.

"Why were you a trouble maker?"

"Just who I am I guess. It didn't really start until I was ten though. I've always been quiet and reserved but I get pissed off from the littlest things." He states.

"Oh I know." The snide remark leaves my lips and he immediately nudges me with his hip while we keep walking.

"Easy." He snickers in offence.

I smile lightly as we walk down the long strip towards the elevators, ready to go home. I do appreciate Harry opening up to me because it doesn't happen often. He has morbid demons in his head and the more information I get, the easier his demons are to handle.

It's a twisted science really.

"So did something just switch in you when you turned ten?" I as as we reach the elevator and I scan my wrist to the keypad.

"After living in the foster home for almost three years prior- I found out my mother died from a drug overdose when I was ten. I didn't care about my mother but from that point forward I was different- more ruthless. I was tired of my sister and being hurt over and over again." His voice quiets as he tells me about his dismal past.

"How did you sister take it?" My voice breaks a bit from the question. I'm still a little nervous to mention his sister.

The elevator door opens and we step inside, clicking the button to our floor and watching the stainless steel shut behind us.

"I don't really know. It didn't really affect her change in expression. All my life my sister never spoke." He says calmly, making me let go of the breath I was holding. He actually didn't get mad this time..

"She never spoke?" I arch my brow.

"No. I don't know if it was just because their was something wrong with her or she was just too scared."

"Well why would she be too scared?"

"She was born into a storm of a life Amelia. She watched me constantly get beat for when I opened my mouth to my parents or the foster family." He murmurs.

"That's awful." I quietly exclaim. I can't image being so scared to even speak all my life.

"Anyway I don't really want to talk about it anymore, lets talk about you instead." He shakes head and runs his hair back.

"I'm not very interesting." I mumble.

"That may be true." He smirks and I playfully whack him in the stomach.

"I lived a pretty normal life I guess. I don't really remember anything before I was eight and moved to a whole new town." I shrug.

"You don't remember anything before you were eight? Why?" He knits he brows together.

"I'm not really sure, I think my life was just that boring and uneventful. Don't get me wrong I remember small snips of memories, but I can definitely remember things more clearly after I moved when I was eight."

"Oh." He slowly nods and the elevator door opens to our floor.

We walk into the apartment with his arm still on my shoulder. He shuts the door behind us as I kick off my shoes and yawn.

"What time is it?" I ask.

"11:30." He looks at his watch before back at me.

"Woah." I widen my eyes and walk toward the stairs. I didn't think we were out that long. "I'm gonna get changed." I turn back as he nods, taking off his jacket.

My feet shuffle up to the stairs, silently walking up while my hand stays firm on the gold railing.

"Baby," He says, making me stop as I get halfway up the stairs, looking back down at him still standing by the door. "You look really nice tonight." He quietly mumbles, scratching the back of his neck.

My heart stops and my palms feel sweaty from the few faint words that leave his lips. My lips curl in a small smile as I look at his nervous expression- a type of nervous I've only seen a few times from him.

"Thank you Harry." I whisper as my cheeks go red from his flattering remark.

He nods with a small smile as I turn away and continue to walk up the set of stairs. My stomach flutters in joy as I step down the hallway to my bedroom, shutting the door behind me.

I unzip my dress and let it fall to a pile around my ankles. I pick it up off the ground and bring it to the closet, tossing it to the side while throwing on Harry's black shirt and a pair of shorts.

Tonight was a new experience, for both of us I guess. I never been out with Harry for a dinner or alone any guy before.

It was nice.

I walk over to my table and sit down in front of the mirror, wiping off all my small amounts of makeup. I wipe it all off with makeup remover and throw it out into the garbage can. I stand back to my feet and walk towards the door slowly opening it and looking into Harry's open door.

I watch him walk by the doorframe in his track pants and shirtless torso, running his hand back through the brunette curls on his head. I slowly tread forward to his door, leaning against the frame and watching him walk around the room.

"Goodnight." I break the silence, making him turn his head towards me. He quickly scans me from head to toe before meeting with my eyes again.

"You're not sleeping in here tonight?" He asks with his quiet husky voice.

"You want me to sleep in here?" I ask while crossing my arms. I know I've gotten into the habit of sleeping in his bed lately, but I honestly thought he wanted his space for once.

"I mean, you have been for the past week." He snickers while standing tall. My eyes try to stay to his eyes but I can't help but notice his defined muscles down his torso.

"I just thought you want to be alone." I tuck my loose hair behind my ear.

"Well that's no fun." He chuckles while taking his rings off and placing them on the bedside table. I smile lightly while slowly shaking my head, walking forward to the giant bed and sitting down on my knees at the side where he stands.

"I like it when you sleep here." He smiles while standing in front of me, wrapping his hands around to meet at my lower back. I place my palms on his inked chest while he dips down and kisses me.
