Chapter 6

"Cathy?"

I felt thirsty and came out to get some water. I was almost startled by Cathy hiding in the corner. I reached over to turn on the floor lamp in the living room, confused. "Why didn't you turn on the light?"

Cathy hurriedly hid her phone.

"Weren't you already asleep?"

I shook my head and said, "What about you? Were you on the phone with someone?"

Instead of answering, Cathy asked back, "Did you hear what I was saying?"

I shook my head again. I really hadn't heard anything. If she hadn't been standing right by the water dispenser, I wouldn't have noticed her at all.

"Cathy, are you okay?"

"It's nothing. I'm going back to bed."

Watching Cathy's flustered appearance, I felt worried. I was pretty sure Cathy was hiding something from me, and it had happened in the past few days.

Obviously, it had something to do with her boyfriend.

Since it was already late, I decided to have a good talk with Cathy after work tomorrow.

After hiding back in her room, Cathy was covered in cold sweat, her heart pounding. She looked like she couldn't wait to move out immediately. When she felt guilty, she couldn't look me in the eye at all.

Cathy couldn't sleep well all night. As soon as I left for work, she immediately packed a small suitcase.

She looked around once and walked out decisively.

Without any hesitation.

Seeing Robert, Cathy pushed the suitcase over to him without even giving him a proper look, and headed straight for the low-key luxurious Lincoln stretch car.

"How unusual, you're out so early in the morning." A slightly harsh and elderly voice. It was the landlady.

She was dressed elegantly and appropriately. Even though she was getting on in years, she was still well-maintained.

Cathy's expression changed slightly. She had wanted to get in the car directly, but thinking about how the landlady was always kind and pleasant to me but cold and sarcastic to her, anger suddenly surged in her heart.

"I'm leaving and never coming back to this dump of yours!"

"And by the way, your whole face is all wrinkled. If you have money, get some more hyaluronic acid injections!"

If it weren't for Robert being there, Cathy probably would have said even harsher things.

The landlady was quite angry. She looked Robert up and down and said, "How did you end up with a bad woman like Cathy? You'll regret it sooner or later!"

Robert bowed slightly, showing perfect politeness and gentlemanly manners.

Only then was the landlady satisfied. She said, "It should be Susan living the good life. Rich people are all blind."

An hour later.

The car slowly pulled into a luxurious villa.

This was Clair's usual residence. If he was busy with work, he would stay in a high-end apartment near Rand Corporation, but this villa still had more than a dozen servants arranged.

At this moment, the servants stood in two rows, welcoming Cathy's arrival.

Cathy was very satisfied with this.

She stood in the center of the villa, her face showing undisguised excitement and greed.

Perhaps she had never imagined that someone from the slums like her could one day live such a luxurious life—something most people could never achieve in their entire lives.

"Miss Cathy, this way please. I'll take you to your room." Robert made a gesture of invitation and said, "Also, there are some things to note. Without Mr. Clair's permission, you cannot enter his room or study..."

Cathy was stunned by the luxurious walk-in closet in the room.

She ignored Robert, busy posing and taking selfies.

She looked both tacky and cheap.

Robert took it all in and said flatly, "Miss Cathy, if there's nothing else, I'll be going now."

"Just throw away this whole suitcase. I don't want anything inside either." Cathy kicked the suitcase with disgust and contempt.

The closet was full of luxury brands, making the cheap suitcase look completely out of place.

Robert took Cathy's suitcase away and had a servant temporarily put it in the storage room.

Back at Rand, Robert reported everything to Clair in detail—everything that happened after picking up Cathy, including the landlady's attitude toward Cathy.

Hearing this, Robert paused the pen he was holding, then continued writing on the documents.

But if you looked closely, his handsome face had darkened.

From the first time he saw Cathy, he had already figured out what kind of person she was. He should have just sent her off with a check, but that night's encounter left him wanting more.

The key thing was, after having a one-night stand with him, she chose to quietly slip away?

Or did she not recognize his face at that time?

But everything about Cathy's behavior was exactly what he hated.

Just thinking about it made Clair increasingly irritated. He had to admit he regretted it. He should have secretly observed Cathy for a while before making a decision. He shouldn't have let Cathy move into the villa so quickly.

Now that things had come to this, it could only stay this way for now.

After washing up and getting ready for work, I found a sticky note on the table.

It was Cathy's farewell message to me: [Susan, I'm leaving. Goodbye.]

I was totally confused. Cathy had already moved out?

Why didn't I hear anything at all?

I looked around the living room. Basically nothing was missing. Although most of the things in the house were bought by me, Cathy's water cup and slippers were still there.

I pushed open Cathy's room door. Nothing was missing there either.

She didn't take much with her, so she should come back, right?

I had been feeling a bit sad and upset at first, but now I feel much better. No matter what, Cathy and I had known each other for so many years. She couldn't possibly leave without saying a proper goodbye to me.

After collecting myself, I went back to the company.

"Susan, take this contract to Clair for his signature."

Manager Anna came over in her high heels and tossed the documents on my desk.

On my first official day, I had to meet Clair face to face?

After mentally preparing myself, I took the documents and carefully knocked on the CEO's office door.

"Come in." The man's voice was deep and mellow.

The moment I walked into the CEO's office, my whole body tensed up, as if the entire space was enveloped by Clair's domineering aura.

I tried hard to calm myself down and walked step by step to Clair's desk.

Clair was focused on reading documents. Hearing footsteps, he lazily lifted his eyes. Those deep eyes instantly locked onto me.

That gaze was like something tangible, making my heartbeat suddenly speed up and my breathing become a bit rapid.

I stammered, "Mr. Clair, this is the contract that needs your signature."

Clair raised his eyebrows slightly and took the contract to look through it.

While waiting, I couldn't help but secretly steal glances at Clair's handsome face. I had to admit, Clair was the most handsome and distinguished man I had ever seen.

Tall with long legs, broad shoulders and a narrow waist.

And that chaotic, wild night, his low breathing in my ear...

Recalling those embarrassing scenes, my cheeks suddenly burned intensely, and I clasped my hands tightly together.

Clair suddenly threw down the pen in his hand.

I was so scared my breath caught.

I was pretty sure he hadn't signed the contract yet, so was there a problem with the contract? Or had he discovered something?
