Sophia's POV.
My cheeks were already flushed with embarrassment.
“Now, I couldn't stay at your apartment 'cause I had to leave for Paris the very next morning, so I brought you to my house.” He continued.
“About that. Aren't you supposed to be in Paris right now?” I raised a brow. “What for?” He asked, clearly acting oblivious.
“With Emma? She was planning a vacation week with you.” I called out.
“Her planning, not mine.” He shrugged. “But you agreed with her.”
“I'm free to disagree anytime I want if I so please.”
“So you just left her there?” I asked in disbelief.
“I know where my priorities lay, Sophia.”
I stared into his intense blue eyes and he didn't seem to be joking around at all. I didn't need to ask him the next question but I still did. “Where?”
“With you.” His reply was abrupt and I knew he meant every word. A warm feeling erupted inside my chest.
“But I thought you were done with me,” I said.
“You must've been drunk if you didn't hear a word I said the other night.” He leaned back into the couch and crossed his arms behind his head, letting out a laugh.
“You've been avoiding me because of a stupid misunderstanding. Explain that.”
“Yeah, about that.” He seemed a little uneasy talking about it. “When were you going to tell me that Colin was just there to keep you company at Stephanie's request?”
“Who told you that?” I snapped.
“What are you so mad about? It's pretty good som—”
“I'm going to kill Stephanie.” I gritted my teeth, fishing my phone out of my pocket. “Why are you so mad?” He frowned.
“Because you weren't worthy of that explanation, Alex,” I stated.
“Excuse me?”
“Right! You're here because you know the truth. Tell me, would you still have skipped Paris if you didn't know this?”
“Of course. It's your Mum's birthday.” He tried to show excitement, offering me a smile.
Letting out an exasperated laugh, I got up from the couch. “The bottom line is that you don't trust me. You didn't trust me at first and you don't trust me now. You didn't even let me explain and now you're here, acting all cheerful just because—”
“Soph?” Mia appeared on the stairs. “What's going on? I heard you shouting.”
I had completely forgotten that there were other people in the house.
“It's a bit complicated. Go back upstairs and—”
“She's just mad because I'm not staying the night here.”
What the fuck?!
My mum appeared on the stairs just then. “Wait. You're not spending the night here?”
“That wasn't my plan. I just wanted to stop by and say hi before checking into the hotel.”
“A hotel?” Mia asked. “Don't you like our house?”
There they go again, talking like I wasn't even in the room!
“Of course I do. It's beautiful.”
I was already fuming with anger.
“Then stay here,” Mia replied. “Even Soph wants that. You don't wanna get her more mad, do you?”
He shook his head.
“Great. Then you're staying. Are you happy now, Soph?”
I managed to force a smile. “Of course.”
“Okay! If that's what everyone wants, I'll just get my bag from the car.” Alex muttered innocently. I resisted the urge to punch him again.
He went outside and after a few minutes, stepped back in with his stuff.
“I'll show you to your room,” Mia said excitedly.
I guess she had planned for him to spend the night. I can't believe she didn't even talk to me about this.
“Am I sharing with Sophia?” Alex asked.
Hell no! You wish!
The ever-talkative Mia was stunned into silence by the question.
“Well, I guess since you're her boyfriend, you could. Aunt, what do you say?” She nervously replied, her cheeks flushed.
Why do they keep acting like I'm invisible? Shouldn't I have a say in this?
My mum thought for a moment before a smirk formed on her lips. “Well, I'm the cool mum so of course he can.”
Crap!
*****
“I can't believe I'm being called in for a work emergency right now. Are you sure you'll be okay?” Mum asked while pulling her car keys out of her handbag.
“Yes, mum. I'm not a kid anymore. I'll be fine.” I replied for what felt like the hundredth time. “Alright. Tell Alex to make himself at home and also make sure Mia goes to bed not too late.”
“I will.”
Nodding, Mum got into her car, started the engine, waved goodbye, and drove off.
After waving goodbye, I stepped into the living room to find Mia and Alex sprawled lazily on the couch, a popcorn bowl sat between them as they watched a Disney movie.
I sat on the opposite couch silently watching with them.
Suddenly, Mia got up and turned to Alex. “I'm going to sleep now but you should watch the movie till the end.”
He gave her a little salute. “I will.”
“Wait, what? Are you going to sleep? It's not even 9:30 yet.” I said to Mia.
“Well, a girl needs her beauty to sleep.” With that, she went upstairs to her room leaving me alone with Alex.
I could feel his gaze on me and without looking at him, I muttered “I guess I should go to bed too.”
He didn't say anything and I went upstairs, knowing that he would follow me to my room. I locked myself in the bathroom to change into my pajamas but when I got out, Alex wasn't there.
I climbed on the bed and buried myself under the covers. About half an hour later, just when I was starting to fall asleep, the door opened and Alex stepped inside.
He kicked his shoes away and wasted no time in getting on the bed next to me. He turned sideways, facing me.
“Hey.” He whispered, smiling at me. “Hi.” I kept a straight face.
The topmost button of his shirt was undone, his tie loosened and his sleeves were rolled up to his elbows, showing off his muscular forearms. Hot dayum!
A slight smirk formed on his lips and I blinked, realizing that he had caught me checking him out.
Gosh! He's so proud. But no matter how much I wanted to deny it, I wanted to feel his lips on mine again. So bad...
