Sophia's POV.
I didn't know why but the moment I pictured those blue orbs staring back at me, my eyes flew open and I pulled away from Colin.
He stood there in surprise, blinking at me.
Oh God!
“Sophia” he called, but I turned around and sprinted back inside the house.
It took me a while to catch my breath. I searched for Stephanie and found her sitting in the corner, exhausted.
“What's wrong?” She asked when I approached her.
“Nothing. Can we go back now?”
“I guess... is there something you wanna tell—”
“Sophia?” I turned around at the voice.
Andrea stood there, tall and lean, with brunette locks and brown eyes, smiling at me. Then she averted her gaze at Stephanie and smiled.
I smiled back “Hi Andrea”
What was she doing here?
“What are you doing here?” I reluctantly asked.
“What do you do at a party, Sophia?” She chuckled.
“But your dad? He allowed you to go to a party at this hour?”
“Of course, he didn't.” She rolled her eyes. “He agreed on one condition. That I had to take my big brother along.”
I froze the moment I heard this.
“What?!” I gasped. “Is he here? Your brother's here?” I asked amidst shock.
“Yeah of course. How else would I be here? You know how my dad can be.”
I turned to Stephanie with wide eyes and she raised a brow in confusion.
“What?” She muttered.
“She's Andrea Hayes.”
It took her a moment to register that.
“Your brother is Alexander Hayes?” She turned to Andrea with wide eyes.
“Yeah. The one and only.” She replied with a singsong voice, completely oblivious to our dilemma.
I let out a nervous laugh. “Uhh, where is he?”
“I don't know,” she chuckled. “He becomes this undercover agent whenever he brings me to parties. Gives me freedom yet watches over me like a hawk.”
I gulped.
“For all we know, he could be watching us now.” She looked around.
I didn't know why but a chill ran down my spine. Almost like Alexander Hayes was a psycho killer and I had to run.
“So what brings you to a frat party?” She continued.
“A friend of ours invited us,” I replied, secretly wishing to be anywhere but here.
“Uh, we should get going now, right Soph?” Stephanie asked and I nodded. “Enjoy the party, Andrea.” I smiled.
“You too.” She walked away and disappeared into the crowd.
“Oh God! I'm out of here.” I said in between movements.
“Jeez, relax. It's not like he's going to kill you for lying that you were sick. I'm sure he knows that already given what he did.”
I wasn't worried about just that. What if he saw me kiss Colin? I thought.
“I'll go get Colin, okay?” She said and walked away.
What a mess I've made of things.
It had been five minutes since she had gone and my heart was thumping wildly.
I looked around impatiently and my breath hitched when I felt a part of my eyes burning holes in my back.
Suddenly, I feel like I'm being watched. Slowly, I turned around.
Shit!
Alexander Hayes was standing a few feet away and he didn't look happy.
“Sophia.” He called.
“Alex.” I bit my lip.
He took a long stride towards me. “So this is where I find you when you call in sick?”
“I–I....”
“You're avoiding me.” His blue eyes narrowed.
Damn right, I am!
If he knew anything about that kiss, he must've said something by now.
I felt relief washing all over me. “No, I'm not avoiding you—” I responded.
“Sophia.”
I started to lie as someone approached me and I squinted my eyes in the dark room.
“I'm so sorry.” I recognized Colin's voice as he stood beside me now, his eyes droopy and bloodshot.
My heart was racing. I opened my mouth to stop him from saying anything but it was too late. “I shouldn't have kissed you like that.”
Oh no!
***
Alex's POV.
I stood frozen to the ground immediately when I heard what he said.
He did what!?
I didn't want to come to a stupid frat party but my dad was persuasive and I couldn't bear to leave my sister alone in this den of wolves.
But right now, I'm glad I did because it meant I got to see Sophia again.
At first, I was shocked to see her here, talking to Andrea as if they were best buddies. Now this!?
What has she been up to?
I took a menacing step closer to this Colin guy, daring him to repeat what he just said. Sophia immediately rushed to block my way.
“Please, it was nothing.” she implored.
The look of disgust I gave her was enough to shut her up.
“Oh, here you are Colin, I've been searching everywhere for y—” Stephanie came in at that moment but stopped abruptly when she noticed my presence.
“What's going on here?” She must've sensed the tension.
“Let's just go.” Sophia urged.
“Hell no. You're not leaving with this drunk.” I said pointing towards Colin.
I grabbed her arm and turned to leave when I felt a rough hand on my shoulder. “I'm not allowing you to leave with her this time.” Colin threatened.
What?
I turned around and before I could think better of it, my fist connected with his cheek, and because he was drunk, he fell to the ground easily, nursing his cheek.
“That's what you get for messing with my girl.”
I turned in search of Andrea, still holding a stunned Sophia in my hands.
“We're leaving,” I said in a clenched tone when I finally spotted her and turned towards the exit. She knew not to defy me.
Once outside, walking towards my car, Sophia suddenly yanked her hand away from mine like someone who just got out of a daze.
“I'm not going anywhere with you!” She yelled.
Now, it was my turn to be stunned.
“How dare you hit Colin? After what you did to me? After what you did with Emily? You said you were going to Athens to see your parents but turns out you had other plans. You got her pregnant goddammit!” She rambled on, tears already running down her cheeks.
“Ermm...b—bro? Maybe I should give you guys some privacy.” Andrea said, cautiously stepping back.
She too appeared scared of Sophia. We were beginning to gather a small audience and I didn't like that.
Honestly, I didn't know what to say to her.
I didn't even know how to explain myself as I just stood there staring at her.
It's you that I want Sophia!
