Sophia's POV.
“What was that in there?” I looked up from my desk to the voice of Andrea walking towards me. She placed the copy of the sales files I was looking for earlier on the desk.
“He asked me to give this to you. I believe it's what brought you into his office right?”
I simply nodded.
Even though I knew this was coming, I had hoped to avoid it. I had hoped she'd just ignore me totally but I guess I wasn't so lucky.
She walked in on us in a very awkward moment so it's only normal for her to bug me. He's her brother after all.
“There's nothing to tell.” I started checking through the sales files. Maybe if I ignored her, she'd be inclined to walk away. I was beginning to get nervous at her questioning.
“I may be young but I'm not a fool.” She said, casually sitting on one part of my desk like we were some old friends. “You guys were so close to kissing. What's going on?”
I admired her inquisitive nature before, in fact, I found it humorous but now that I was the main recipient, it wasn't so funny anymore.
“Oh dear! Nothing is going on between us. Please I have to get some work done if you don't mi—?”
“Do you like him?” She asked, cutting me off.
My eyes shot up at her, shocked to hear such a blunt question coming from her.
After my initial shock, I went back to sorting out files on my desk when I replied “Of course not! He's my boss and the only relationship we have is professional.” I tried avoiding her eyes even as I spoke.
“I like you. You're not like the others,” she replied smiling.
What ‘others’? I asked reluctantly.
An awkward silence followed immediately. Andrea stared right at me and continued to smile.
“Erm, thank you?” I said, breaking the awkward silence. I didn't know what she meant by ‘you're not like the others”.
“Alright! I've got classes to attend.” She remarked, standing up from where she sat at the table. “I'll see you around.” She added as she walked towards the elevator.
I had a huge smile on my face as I watched her leave.
*****
I was checking the sales file when suddenly, Trent appeared in front of my table.
“Hey, beautiful.”
Hmmm, someone was feeling cocky.
“Hey, Trent, how are you doing today?” I smiled.
“You know, you don't have to be so formal with me.” He whispered, leaning on the table.
I let out a chuckle.
“Well, right now, I'm just Sophia, Mr Hayes’ secretary, not ‘Hey beautiful. So what are you here for?” I asked teasingly.
He giggled.
“Well, if that's the case, I know we went out to lunch the other day but I'm here to ask you on a proper dinner date.”
Trent seemed to be a good and well-mannered guy. He makes me laugh and is also quite good-looking and intelligent but I wouldn't want to go out with him again.
“I'm sorry, Trent, but right now, I can't date or put up with any relationship." I said sincerely.
Yeah, but you choose to always smooch with your boss!
My conscience can be cruel sometimes.
“Alright. I don't know about your past experiences. But I'm asking you for just one dinner. After that, if you decide to be just friends, I'll be okay with it. No pressure.”
I thought about it for a couple of minutes. There's no harm in one dinner. I thought. “Okay, but just one dinner.” I tilted my head a little bit, giving him a small smile.
He beamed. His face brightened in excitement.
“Thank you. I'll make sure you have an amazing time. Uhm, when and where?”
“How about tonight? There's this amazing place with the most delicious Mexican food. Wait, do you like Mexican food?” I asked. His happiness was evident in the way he rambled on nonstop.
“Yes, I do. Sounds good to me.” He retorted.
“It's a date then,” he added With a wide smile.
“Okay, see you tonight,” I replied. He walked off smiling. Did he just do a fist bump in the air? I laughed out loud, shaking my head.
Now back to the task at hand, I noticed a few discrepancies which I needed to make known to Mr Hayes.
I was nervous going back to his office but didn't have a choice.
I knocked and opened the door when I didn't hear a “come in.” I walked in on him. Mr Hayes was pacing down the office in a serious conversation with someone on the other side of his phone.
I turned to leave immediately. But before I could take another step, his gesture signified that I stay put.
I couldn't help eavesdropping on his conversation.
“Why in God's name have you been going around telling everyone that we're back together!?” He yelled.
“That was a mistake!”
“I don't give a fuck!”
I could hear the murmuring on the other end of the call still talking when he abruptly hung up. Sounded like a lady....
That familiar thorn of jealousy tugged at my heart. “Yes?”
I was startled at the sudden change in him. He was very different from the man who walked in cheerfully just this morning and back to his rude self.
Whatever news his sister told him must've been very upsetting.
For a brief second, I felt the need to comfort him but quickly decided that it was none of my business.
“I checked through the sales files. It will need a few corrections before I turn it over to the sales representative. Should I discuss this with you now?”
“Now is not the right time, I'm busy. We'll discuss it over lunch. Make some reservations.”
“Okay, sir” I replied, eager to get out of his presence for the moment.
***
Alex's POV.
My day started nicely especially when I saw her rummaging through my shelf but the bomb my sister dropped on me was enough to get my mood from a hundred to zero.
I regretted sleeping with Emily and now, she had this twisted idea that I was willing to get back with her just because of a foolish night of passion, even one she carefully orchestrated.
I'll admit I loved the wild steamy sex but I want nothing to do with Emily ever again, something I made sternly clear to her before abruptly leaving Athens.
I need to do something about this.
But right now, I have a business lunch with my secretary. Again.
A few minutes later...
“Come on,” I said to her as we walked inside the fancy ambiance of the restaurant.
I noticed she seemed a little uncomfortable as she kept eyeing the women in fancy dresses.
I longed to tell her that no woman in this room could be compared to her and how she made me feel. I would love to make her realize that.
We were guided to our booth which was a little secluded from the rest. Just how I wanted.
“Before we begin, what do you feel like ordering?” I asked
“I'm not that hungry.” She replied.
I opened my mouth to say something and just then, my phone buzzed with a text from an unknown number.
'Oh my! I can't believe I'm running into you!! I've been hoping to catch you around one of these days.' The text read.
Who the hell was this?
I was in the middle of typing just that when I felt a hand on my shoulder.
Before I could even turn around completely, a pair of hands grabbed my face and the next thing I knew, I could feel my lips on hers, kissing me passionately.
What the hell just happened?!
