Chapter Forty-seven: The Haze Is Strong

“Yes our lore is wrong about a lot. Some of it is for good reason too,” I say.

Vincent sighs, “Please don't say that, you sound like my brother.”

My eyebrow shoots up, “How the hell do I sound like Dracula!”

“Wait, you have a brother and he's Dracula?” Rick inquires.

Vincent explains, “My sire made another, there's no human connection. Yes he's Vlad Tempes Dracul, who you know as Dracula, and once I receive correspondence, Eva will accompany me to Romania. Why she needs to work remotely.”

“Are there any truths to the legends?,” Rick asks.

“Some. He is a ruthless arrogant asshole who thinks he can charm any woman and many men,” Vincent says.

I laugh, “And I intend to show him a woman who won't back down to get the answers I need.”

“Don't risk yourself for a story,” Rick warns.

“I'm not. I'm going to have a chat with him, just not going to fawn over him. I have all the love I need, I don't have time for anything else,” I say.

“Having a significant other will do that,” Rick says with a grin.

“I assure you I only accompany her for her safety. Given what she is and this time of year, we can't leave her unprotected. I'm not Victor, I will not dictate her life,” Vincent says as he looks at me fondly.

“Why'd you come in here then?” Brandon asks rudely.

“Brandon!” I warn.

Vincent smiles at me before he addresses Brandon, “As her mate, I can hear her thoughts, feel her emotions, and hear any conversation quite well even from a distance. I sensed she needed me, so I'm here instead of enjoying my tea with Kia and Derek.”

I feel that urge building, “Umm, Vin.”

“We will be back. Can't explain right now,” he tells them as he takes my hand, “You lead.”

We rush to the restroom and lock the door, he turns to me, “What triggered it?”

I try to explain, “I caught your scent. Maybe we've been near each other so much today it finally became a bit much. Your eyes are starting to change now too.”

Vincent grabs me and kisses me hungrily. Then he spins me around, bends me over the counter as he hikes my skirt up. I was wet even before our kiss. He slides my panties to the side as he undoes his pants. He thrusts inside of me and pulls on my hair. I moan and press my ass into him. We had been picking up the pace as the door burst open.

Sam barges in with a ferocity I hadn't seen, “Woman what the hell!”

I couldn't answer fully as I was midorgasm. Instead I answered with a loud moan Sam comes over and drops his pants. He lifts me by the waist. Vincent pulls out and I whimper. Soon I'm impaled by Sam's cock. Then Vincent enters me from behind while nipping at my neck and fondling my breasts as Sam holds me by the back of my thighs as they grip around his waist. The men pound me feverishly and I relish in the friction and the intensity. This isn't love, this is pure animalistic sex. Finally sated, we all come and clean ourselves up.

I turn to Sam and ask, “Why are you here?”

He looks at me, “Your fault.”

“How?” I ask him.

He takes my hand, “Your haze brought me here.”

I think for a moment, “Maybe you shouldn't have stayed away before it hit.”

He shrugs, “Maybe.”

I chastise him, “You broke down the damn door!”

He grins wolfishly, “Not sorry about that.”

I point my finger at him, “You're going to fix it though.”

We talk idly as we walk back to the office. Kia is the first to ask me, “You ok, girl?”

I smile as I look at my guys, “I am now.”

Rick grins, “Good afternoon, Mr. Fall.”

Derek looks at us, “Seriously what happened? You ran off and then after a bit, we heard a loud bang. We were going to check but Rick said he heard you all talking and would explain in a bit.”

I look over at Vincent, “Got locked in somehow.”

“We owe you a new door,” Vincent says.

Rick starts laughing, “I don't need to know how poorly the door faired.”

I whisper to Sam, “He and Brandon know.”

Sam smiles as he addresses Rick, “Well no need to call me Mr. Fall, Sam is fine.”

“Then address me as Rick,” he tells Sam.

“I thought I'd treat the office to lunch since Eva won't be in for a bit,” Sam says.

I chuckle to myself and think ‘lies, all lies.’ Vincent starts to laugh but stops himself. I start singing If You Seek Amy by Britney Spears in my head. Vincent can't take it he starts turning away laughing. Sam stares at me.

“What the hell!” Sam exclaims before he laughs.

Vincent laughs as he says, “At least it wasn't the Macarena this time.”

Then Rick looks over and joins in laughing. Kia looks between us all, “Must be an inside joke.”

I decided on a partial truth, “They aren't fond of my playlists.”

Derek laughs before he asks, “What song did you whisper?”

I grin, “If You Seek Amy.”

Derek nods, “No wonder they lost it.”

Kia says, “You're always so random. What made you even think about it?”

I tell her, “The bathroom door getting busted down. Might do a story about a crazed lover supernatural style of course.”

Rick says, “You break it, you bought it.”

He and I laugh, but Vincent and Sam clearly aren't amused as they glare at me. I tilt my head, “What I got the best partner?”

Sam looks at me, “One Eva is plenty for now.”

“Only because Katie is with Steven or else there would be another me,” I say.

Vincent says, “Very true and it is Sam's turn to babysit her too.”

“Nope because when you head off to Transylvania I'm coming,” Sam says.

Vincent glares at Sam, “It's on the border not actually in Transylvania although the grounds meet and slightly exceed the border.”

Sam shrugs, “Semantics.”

I say, “Boys chill! I don't tolerate this at home and I won't here.”

Vincent smiles and I smack him. He says, “What, I'm happy I won that little argument.”

“It was never an argument. I just had a different definition,” I say.

“You two never stop,” Sam says.

I laugh, “For a few hours a day we do.”

Sam shakes his head, “Here I thought I'd be nice and treat everyone.”

I run my fingers behind his ear and down his arm because he has his hair in a ponytail as I say with a devious smile, “You know we are just fooling around. Just having some fun, big man.”

He softly growls, “You're Satan you know that.”

Vincent grins, “I've called her that before and you defended her. Glad to see you've come to your senses.”

“When her halo broke, she carved the two halves into horns. -Jordin Westerhead,” I say.

Derek tells me, “You know I'm going to miss my dance partner when you go on your vacation.”

I reassure him, “I'll still have a phone. I'm not going to fall off the face of the Earth.”

Kia says, “Maybe I'Il have a man by the time you get back and we can all go out.”

I tell her, “Just be choosy please. There are some real monsters out there, trust me.”

Derek adds, “Like Victor.”

I smile, “Him and worse. But he's left town thanks to Eric's men on the force.”

While we were talking we had placed our takeout order. Sam went to go get it. I go with Vincent to our break room where I'd stashed some cookies I made and brought last time I was here.

“You stash food here too,” Vincent says.

I hand him a cookie, “Yeah. Don't worry I made them.”

He kisses my cheek, “Thanks, love.”

After we had our cookies we returned to the others. Kia tells me, “I looked at the pictures you uploaded, girl they are amazing.”

I smile, “Thanks.”

“How'd you get that aerial view of the waterfall?” she asks.

I blush briefly as I remember, “Put my camera on a drone.”

Vincent snickers and I smack him, “Behave.”

Sam grins, “Looks like you'll be in the doghouse then Vincent.”

I bite my lip as Sam looks at me, “I heard what you told Steven.”

I sigh, “Well we can settle that discussion later.”

“You best get a headstart,” Sam warns.

I grin, “Don't need one because I'm done playing fair.”

“You might as well give up, but suit yourself, man,” Vincent says.

Brandon looks between them, “Now I get what you meant by tolerance.”

I smile, “Yep, especially when I'm the referee. It's easier if Eric or Katie are around. Gran was pretty helpful too.”

Sam shakes his head, “Turned my own grandmother against me.”

I laugh, “The ladies love me.”

Kia’s eyes widen, “You've met his family!”

“Yeah we were at a party at his place when Rick called about the magazine being in trouble,” I say.

“Who’s we?” Derek asks.

“Aren't you nosey,” I tell him.

Derek says, “Especially if I smell a story.”

“It's my story anyways. Just don't go doing too much digging while I'm away on vacation, please,” I beg him.

He begrudgingly agrees, but I think to myself ‘I know he's not going to listen. I know where he keeps his book of leads, so if I have to go find him in the field I can.’

Vincent gives me a sympathetic look. He must know how I feel leaving them. We say our goodbyes and start to head home just before sunset. I ride

home with Vincent and Sam follows.

———Sam’s POV——-

From now on, I will be with Eva days before the full moon haze. That was close, too close. I nearly broke down other doors to find her. If I hadn't heard her increasing desire as I got closer, who knows how many people I would've scared.

I have never lost control like that. I was on autopilot. I became a sex-crazed maniac. I remember Simon finding his mate, but he was never this ravenous to have her. If he was, it wasn't until nightfall and they were behind closed doors.

No, I drove like a Devil and sprinted in here like I was trying to win a race. Her moans filled my mind. I could almost feel her and smell her. It's like the haze is alive. Like it casts a spell on us. Why is it so intense?
