Chapter Forty-two: Realizations

I wake up and I'm in bed alone. Whatever, I go and use the restroom and look for something to wear. I opted for comfort so I put on a T-shirt, jeans, and my leather jacket. I go to the kitchen. Sam is sitting at the island working on his laptop. I don't see the other guys but I know they're nearby because I can feel

them.

Sam looks at me, “Morning you hungry?”

“I was gonna make me something now, so yeah,” I say.

He informs me that Steven took Katie to work and then says, “Let me make you something.”

“Want help?” I ask with a playful smile.

He gives me a pointed look, “No, you are taking it easy today. How do you feel?”

I can tell that he's still concerned, “Fine. I had no bad dreams or anything. I don't feel off or anything either.”

He kisses my cheek before he begins to cook, “Good, I was worried. I'm sorry how I acted but not sorry that I was right to be concerned.”

I smile as I sigh, “It's just the abilities. I guess I lost a bit of control.”

He squeezes my hand, “It's fine. I keep waking up floating.”

We both laugh. All of this isn't just new to me but them too and I need to remember that.

I tease, “I am just going to have to tie you down then.”

He chuckled and then winked, “If I'm being tied down, I'd hope I'm getting more than just sleep out of the deal.”

I roll my eyes as I scoff, but a blush creeps up on my cheeks as I envisioned what he had in mind. Everything

seems as it was before, so maybe we can all move past last night. I can't help but think how normal it feels right now. I woke up in a comfortable bed and was being fed by a man that I'm growing to love more each day.

I shake my head, “I swear!”

As he sat an omelet in front of me as well as a cup of coffee and some juice, “Here eat, please.”

I thank him and l eat as we make small talk. Once finished, I need to know, “Ok now I need answers. Did you find anything concerning the bank?”

Sam tells me yes so I continue, “Is that why the other guys are missing?”

He nods so I insist, “Then fill me in so I don't have to pry.”

“There's a bunch of shell companies that money is being filtered through,” he says.

“So the bank is being used to procure it by conning people into paying fake loans?” I ask.

He nods and continues to do so as I speak. I think I know where this is going but I want clarification, “Then the bank loans the shell companies money. A vampire is the mastermind behind this. They know him, don't they?”

“Yes between those two they know most vampires made from 1045 until now,” Sam tells me.

“So who and where is he?” I ask.

Just then Vincent comes in, “Pierre Lamont he's the Prince of France.”

I giggle to myself because I knew he was nearby. Now I can see if he and Sam really have gotten over last night.

“Lovely. Has he targeted other businesses in this city?” I ask.

“A few,” Eric says as he gives me a hug.

“So the magazine wasn't the only target, that's encouraging,” I say.

Vincent kisses my cheek, “Yes, no one knows of you yet.”

I give Vincent a quick peck on the lips, “Well us for that matter. You guys aren't your normal vampires and werewolf anymore. So do we have a plan?”

“Right now just collecting a paper trail to give to the authorities,” Sam says.

“You know they'll just cut their losses once they get spooked,” I tell them.

“We know,” Eric says.

“We can't just go showing up in France unannounced and uninvited,” Vincent explains.

Eric looks at him, “Especially you, Vincent.”

“Sam and I could go,” I suggest.

Eric and Vincent say at the same time, “Definitely not!”

“Why?” I ask.

Eric explains, “There aren't many werewolves left in the Old World. Most left because they were hunted while vampires just blended in or hid in the shadows.”

I huff in frustration as Vincent says, “We bide our time and perhaps reach out to a few affiliates.”

“Your magazine is safe and so are you. That's our top priority!” Eric says as he kisses me.

Vincent grins at me, “When we go visit my father and brother, we might pay a visit to the French Prince too.”

“Okay. So what until our Eurotrip?” I ask.

Eric looks almost embarrassed, “Work on controlling ourselves.”

I look down, “Easier said than done when the haze hits.”

Sam hugs me, “And it's going to get worse as the full moon approaches

and the season officially starts.”

“I could just lock myself away somewhere,” I suggest.

“Wouldn't work,” Sam says sternly.

“Why?” I ask.

Eric looks into my eyes, “We'll find you.”

“And breakdown or destroy whatever is in our way,” Sam says as he tenses.

I run my hand over my face and through my hair, “So I'm screwed.”

They all laugh at me, “Not funny!”

Sam grins, “It is though.”

I shake my head, “I so should've never went to that gala.”

Eric gives me a dominant look, “I'd still have found you because I was looking for you before you showed up there.”

Sam smirks, “As would I now that your scent wasn't hidden.”

I huff, “You all suck.”

Sam chuckles before suggesting, “Well Snow White let's head outside and test ourselves.”

We go out into the seclusion that is Vincent's yard as he says, “Eva, try moving something without saying or thinking of a spell.”

I see a branch and wish it to levitate. It does and my control doesn't fade quickly.

“That's new,” Sam says in surprise.

“It's always been there. High level vampires can do it. She flew last night,” Vincent explains.

Eric makes a fire, “Touch the flames, Eva.”

I do and the fire just diverts around my touch. Eric does the same.

“It's the blood!” Vincent exclaims.

Eric nods, “I think so.”

“So I'm immune to fire and electricity now,” I say.

“Yes, it seems so now and we are as well,” Eric tells me.

“That could come in handy,” I say with a smile.

“Well, my brother is a psychic pyrokinetic vampire, so he can't burn you or us now.

That might piss him off, but he's an asshole!” Vincent says with a smirk.

“What about your father?” I ask.

“He's just a normal ancient vampire. He can fly, is faster and stronger than me, but isn't a fighter. He didn't participate in the war,” he says.

I glare at him, “Yes he did. He made you, so he wasn't totally idle. He chose to save a dying human.”

“She's right you know,” Eric says with a smirk of his own.

“Oh, and Eric you do realize your ability just worked in the sun without my blood,” I say.

Vincent chuckles, “She's got you there. It's been quite awhile since you had any.”

“I didn't even think about that,” Eric admits.

“So she's curing you of your sun allergy somehow since you haven't recently

consumed her blood. I still float, so it could be a permanent change,” Sam tells us.

They nod and Eric says, “Well this redefines vampire lore.”

Sam laughs, “Last I checked I'm the only floating werewolf, so werewolf lore too.”

“Well my brother will have to document all of this,” Vincent says.

“Why?” I ask.

“He's a historian aside from being a womanizing asshole,” Vincent tells me.

“Well, you're gonna need to tell us about him. The more I know about him the better prepared I will be,” I say as I cup Vincent’s face.

“He's had two loves, neither were his mates as far as I know. The first was human. She thought he'd been killed so she killed herself,” he says.

“Without seeing proof?” I ask.

Vincent nods so I continue, “She was a coward. I wouldn't stop till I found my love or proof of death!”

“They both were human then too as far as I know,” Vincent adds.

“So there would have been a body,” I say.

“Well yes but he did become a vampire around that time,” Vincent tells me.

“Still a body! If you love someone you'll stop at nothing. My ghost will haunt your asses!” I say with a laugh and a wink.

We all laugh at my comment but I am somewhat serious. I feel so connected to them that I don't think even death could prevent us from being together.

“What of the second?” I ask.

“She was human when they met. She was psychic though,” Vincent explains.

“Could she read his mind?” I ask.

“No, just emotions. She had telekinesis when it came to electronic current,” he says.

“As a human?” I ask and he nods so I continue, “Maybe she wasn't fully human like me.”

Vincent thinks for a moment, “Maybe.”

“What happened to her?” I ask.

“She got bound to a witch after she was made a vampire by my brother,” he tells me.

“Body, mind, and soul?” I inquire.

“No. If the witch is hurt it hurts her, so more physical only,” Vincent explains.

“If one dies, they both could die?” I ask.

Vincent nods and Eric raises an eyebrow at me, “You’re thinking.”

“Well yes. What type of witch?” I ask Vincent.

“Necromancer,” he says.

I laugh, “Pussy!” They all look at me, “What? I can control the living and the dead plus nature.”

Eric motions for me to continue so I do, “Well vampires only die if they are beheaded or their heart is destroyed right?”

“Or break an oath to a witch,” he adds.

“Question is did she take an oath when she was bound?” I ask.

“If she didn't…” Vincent starts and I finish his thought, “We kill the witch in a way that wouldn't kill a vampire like drowning or stoning. Deny the witch water and he will die before a vampire would from not feeding. Unless he's a vampire too.”

“If he is a vampire, then you will need to be more creative,” Vincent says with a smile.

“But if there's an oath, though,” Eric adds.

“I make the witch break it!” I say.

“How?” Sam asks me.

“I can control him, vampire or not. You guys will need a bit of my blood so he can't control you. But I'll be fine,” I say.

“You'd do that for my brother?” Vincent asks.

“Not just him. Don't you think she deserves to control her own destiny? If she loves your brother fine if not at least she'll be free,” I say.

“You're remarkable!” Sam says as he beams with pride.

“"You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it." - Maya Angelou

So I'm going to try,” I say.

“Well we will support you,” Eric says as he kisses me.

“So what should we do with our day?” I ask.

“I say we go for a swim,” Sam suggests with a naughty glint in his eyes.

I laugh, “You just want to see me naked and wet.”

He chuckles, “Not gonna lie, that’s a huge bonus!”
