I say, “I think I'm going to startdropping hints to Katie about what's going on.” I feel that I need to buy there is a huge risk that she could sever our friendship.
Vincent senses my uneasiness, “Well if she freaks out, I can compel her to forget.”
“How often though? I don't want to cause her any harm,” I ask.
He reassures me, “Some can be compelled multiple times a day for years.”
“Okay good, I love her too much to do that for that long but it's good to know it won't harm her,” I reply.
I then look at all of the guys, “Before you even ask, no Katie and I haven't hooked up. We aren't into girls in that way. We just joke around.”
The guys laugh before Eric asks, “Now tell us your ex's name.”
He deserves to know, but I don't want bloodshed, “Don't go all Rambo please.”
He shakes his head, “Fine, I'll have my men bring him in.”
That makes me feel a bit better so I just blurt out his name, “Victor Van Clay.”
Vincent exclaims, “Holy shit!”
Eric gets a glint in his eyes, “Oh, this will be fun.”
Sam growls, “That's the asshole that's been harassing my pack! He has been trying to force us to move further out of the territory. He hates wolves. He's trying to start a fight or even a war between wolves and vampires.”
Vincent adds, “He got passed over for Prince too. “
Eric adds, “He spreads dissension. Not to mention has slept with every single vampiress that come to the club.”
Well, now I know some of their history with Victor. I say disgustingly, “Lovely.”
Eric says, “Sorry.”
“I don't have any feelings for him. Those died the moment he betrayed me. Karma is a bitch, and well I'm the badest of them all!” I say.
Vincent chuckles, “It will be poetic justice, my dear.”
Sam says, “Wish I could be there for it.”
Eric says, “Sam you just might have to be.”
I grin because this is my chance to present my idea, “Why not open a club for everyone? Call it Eternal Bliss.”
Vincent shakes his head, “You're still insistent.”
Eric asks, “What are you both talking about?”
“Oh she had names for your club,” Vincent tells him.
Eric says, “Of course she did.”
“Just stop! My mind doesn't shutoff. I can't help it,” I say.
Katie entered the house, “Honey I'm home!!!!! What's for dinner?”
I laugh as Vincent speaks, “What the hell!”
Sam says, “It's cute.”
“Cutely loud and annoying,” Vincent comments.
I glare at him, “Be nice!”
He smirks, “I'm always nice.”
I roll my eyes, “Not even in your dreams.”
He temporarily drops his bravado, “She does that all the time doesn't she?”
I nod, “Yep and it's cute which makes me smile so stop it Mr. Sourpuss.”
Vincent side-eyes me, “Be happy you're my mate.”
I giggle, “Give me time and I could take you.”
“Big talk for a little girl,” he says.
I smirk, “I'm not all talk.”
Katie says, “Would you both have sex already.”
I point at her, “Keep it up Katie and there'll be no dessert for you!”
She puts her hands on her chest, “Oh anything but that.” Then she pouts and says, “I'm sorry my wonderful and lovely housewife.”
I chuckle, “Hey, I work.”
She teases, “In your fuzzy slippers.”
I raise my shoulder, “Jealous.”
She giggles, “Maybe. But seriously I'm starved. I stopped by the school and got everything prepped.”
“What time is it?” I ask.
Sam says, “5:30.”
“Shit!” I exclaim.
Katie asks, “What were you guys doing to lose so much time?”
I say, “Talking.”
She disbelievingly says, “About?”
“Lots actually. They know Victor,” I tell her.
Shocked she says, “F*ck! Really?”
“Yeah, unfortunately,” Sam replies.
The other guys add their comments. “He's a former associate,” Eric says.
Vincent adds, “I never liked him since I met him a tew years ago.”
“Me either he gave me the creeps and seemed slimey. I tolerated him for my girl Well he's stayed away for a
few months now. He will never find us here,” Katie says.
Vincent tells her, “He'd be stupid to try.”
“He was filth. He treated her like crap, I'm sure she sugarcoated it like she does to diffuse a situation,” Katie adds.
The guys glare at me so I start singing Um Bop by Hansen in my head.
Vincent takes on a commanding tone, “Eva, we will discuss this later.”
I roll my eyes before I stick my tongue out at Katie, “Katie you suck!”
She grins, “Oh I know and I'm quite good at it.”
I facepalm. I decided to change the subject, “What movie should we watch while dinner cooks?”
She says, “I want something that's not scary but a thriller or something.”
I ask, “That doesn't narrow it down much. You want ghosts, witches, fairies, vampires, angels, demons, wolves, or what?”
“Is there something that has a mix?” She inquires.
I say, “Hmmm…there's a few series like True Blood, Midnight Texas, Supernatural, Stranger Things, and Haven.”
Vincent says, “Eva, you’re way into movies and stuff.”
I nod, “Yeah I don't get out much.”
“Yet you want to rename my clubs,” Eric remarks.
Katie says, “Oh!”
Eric decides to tell her a bit about himself, “I have a few businesses and Eva of course has opinions on them.”
“She's very savvy you should at least consider. I wanna watch True Blood,” Katie says.
I ask her, “Any certain season or just start at the beginning?”
She tells me the beginning.
I sigh, “Okay, you hopeless chick you.”
Giggling she says, “What the vampires are sexy!”
I shake my head, “I liked the season they introduced the werewolves.”
“Of course you did. You and guys with dark hair. I don't care what you think, the guy
that played Eric Northman was hot as f*ck,” she says.
She's right, I do have a type. I love a man with light eyes and dark hair.
I roll my eyes, “Whatever.”
“Face it you have a type,” she says.
I reply, “Yeah and you don't, maybe you need one.”
She smirks, “I am sure that I could handle more than one.”
I throw my hands up, “I'm going to cook, you get the series going.”
Sam and I go to the kitchen.
He asks, “Is it weird what she wanted to watch?”
“No we watch all kinds of stuff. Maybe she just picked up on my need for this conversation?” I respond.
He asks, “You sure you didn't put it into her?”
I shrug, “I'm sure I didn't directly do it. Let's do pan roasted chicken and veggies with wild rice. Do lava cakes for dessert.”
“Sounds fine,” he says so we get on it. Once the timers are set and we go to the theater room.
As I take my seat near Katie, “So I've not missed much.”
“No, she's just starting to figure out Bill isn't human,” she says.
This is my chance to see how she will take the news of her being the only human in this house, “It makes it pretty obvious.”
“How so?” she asks.
I answer her, “No heartbeat, no body heat for starters. He's pale so no blood circulation or very poor if there is any.”
Honestly, I am surprised that we haven't talked like this before.
She nonchalantly answers, “Well they're dead so it makes sense to me.”
This is my chance!
“What if only some of it is true?” I ask her as the guys look on.
She asks me, “Like what's true?”
“If staked they die, they drink blood, they have issues with sunlight but don't turn to ash, they have powers like Eric Northman does, and they aren't all doom and gloom or seek humans as food because there are alternatives just not True Blood like in the show,” I say.
She shrugs, “I quess that wouldn't be so bad.”
I smile, “Let's say that Vincent or Eric is one, would that change your opinion now that you kinda know them?”
She giggles, “But they eat food.”
“Let's say our hypothetical vampires can,” I say.
She thinks for a moment, “Well I'd think Eric was over Vincent.”
“Why?” I ask.
“He's more refined and quiet. He speaks when he has something to say. Vincent is well an ass but you love that about him,” she states.
I giggle, “A vampire could be a jerk.”
“Hey!” Vincent yells as he glares at me.
“What are you going to do uninvite me?” I challenge.
He sighs, “You know I can't.”
I grin because I know that I won this bit, “Okay back on track, Katie what if I told you that you're partially right.”
“How can I be partly right?” she asks.
I decide to show her after all seeing is believing so I have her come sit on my lap and Eric comes and sits where she was.
“Eric smile and then show her,” I command.
He asks, “Are you sure?”
I nod. He smiles and then has his fangs descend.
“Whoa!” Katie exclaims.
I tell her, “It's ok here let me have your hand.”
I take one of her hands and place it on his chest and the other on his lip.
I say, “Go ahead and feel just watch the tip it's sharp.”
Amazed she smiles, “He's warm and I feel…”
“A heartbeat,” I answer for her.
She says, “But the teeth feel real.”
I giggle, “They are.”
Her eyebrows shoot up, “No way!”
I just love her childlike amazement. She has always been the bright spot in my life.
“So we went to a vampire ball?” she asks.
I tell her yes.
She looks at Eric, “You're a real prince?”
“Of vampires in this area, yes,” he says.
She responds, “No fucking way. Are all of your stories true Eva?”
“Not all,” I say. Because they can't be, can they?
“What about ghosts and demons and stuff?” she asks.
I tell her, “I just know witches, vampires, and werewolves so far exist.”
She perks up, “Werewolves too?”
I shouldn't be surprised by this because she has always been more fascinated with shifter lore than vampires. Whereas, I have been more drawn to demonology and vampires.
“Yes and there's one in this room too,” I tell her, “A witch as well.”
“This is so cool,” she says.
Vincent seems as relieved as I am, “Well she's taking it well.”
Then she turns to Eric, “Wait your wife exploded to ash Eric. I remember even if it's a bit hazy.”
He smirks, “Yep and I'm quite happy about it.”
“How? No one staked her,” she asks.
He says, “She broke an oath to a witch.”
Katie exclaims, “Wow! Okay so if there's a witch and a werewolf in this room, I'd say Sam is the wolf.”
“Why?” I ask.
She says, “He's like the one from Twilight. He's sweet and funny.”
I laugh and ask Sam, “So Sam are all wolves sweet and funny?”
He shakes his head, “No.”
Surprised Katie asks, “So you are?”
He says, “Yes.”
Then she asks him, “Are all wolves……huge?”
I facepalm, “For fucksake, that's what you care about?”
She shrugs, “Mmm, yeah.”
Sam shakes his head but answers her, “It varies, and let's leave it at that because my mate is uncomfortable discussing it.”
She says, “We will get back to that. Vincent do a spell.”
Vincent says, “You're wrong about who's the witch.”
She says, “Nope I'd know if Eva was we're always together.”
I grin, “Except when you're sleeping.”
“No way!” she yells.
“Lumus,” I hold up my finger as the tip lights up.
She asks, “Can I touch it?”
I nod.
“It's not hot,” she says.
I reply, “No just light without heat.”
“How do you know spells?” she asks me.
I say, “That one was from Harry
Potter. I'm just guessing right
now. It's a new thing for me.”
She turns to Vincent, “So Vincent are you human like me?”
“Nope,” he smirks.
“Then what?” she asks him.
He tells her, “Vampire I'm actually older then Eric.”
“But…” she says.
I tell her, “Based on what I know, they stay the age of when they were turned.”
“Oh! Can you have children?” she asks.
Vincent says, “Yes with our mates only.”
This is something I didn't know. I didn't know that vampires could have children.
She says, “So Sam is the only one with a mate.”
“No,” Eric answers.
Oh boy, here it comes.
Katie says, “But yours died?”
He tells her, “She wasn't my mate.”
“How do you know who is your mate?” she asks him.
“For vampires there's many things but the biggest is a mindlink,” he says.
She responds, “Like mind reading.”
He nods, “Yes we share thoughts but can emotions as well.”
“That seems cool,” she says.
I say, “It's annoying sometimes because you can't have a private thought.”
She asks Sam, “So wolves have it too?”
He tells her yes.
Then she asks me, “If Sam is your mate, why are we living with Vincent?”
He says, “Eva is all of our mates.”
“How does that happen?” she asks him.
He shrugs as he grins, “No clue.”
“Damn Eva, I want one,” she says.
I reply, “I didn't want any.”
“Well, can you not?” she asks me.
I shake my head, “Nope.”
“Wow! So it's like an arranged marriage,” she squeaks.
Vincent says, “Kinda yeah only no person arranged it, it just happens because fate wills it.”
She says, “This is crazy but so cool.”
“For you maybe,” I tell her.
She gives me a look, “Girl, they're all hot and into you. Stop resisting!”
“I only recently found out it's gonna take a bit,” I tell her.
“It shouldn't because I wouldn't hesitate,” she says.
Vincent tells her, “You obviously can't tell anyone.”
She rolls her eyes, “Duh, they'd think I'm nuts.”
“Well, you are,” I say.
She says, “No this is. I'm in a room with a witch, two vampires, and a werewolf. I don't feel the least bit scared.”
“Well you shouldn't feel scared. I didn't,” I tell her.
“When did you find out that you had mates?” she asks.
I tell her, “Night of the gala.”
She then asks, “When did you learn that you were a witch?”
“The witch stuff has been since my birthday,” I say.
She tells me, “Good you've not hid it from me for long. It makes sense now why Sam wants you to meet his family.”
I say, “Yeah. Food is nearly ready too.”
Vincent says, “I'll set the table.”
I thank him. We head to the kitchen. Vincent heads to the dining room leaving Katie and Eric to talk a bit on their way to the dining room.
Sam accompanies me to the kitchen, “Well you didn't lose your friend.”
“No but I can only imagine the questions once she finishes processing this,” I tell him.
He says, “It's fine, I don't mind.”
“You have way more patience then me,” I admit.
He kisses my cheek, “Curiosity is the small stuff, no sense in stressing over it.”
We plate the meal and bring out then desserts.
Katie says, “This looks awesome! Wait can you all eat? I've seen you but..”
Sam chuckles, “Wolves eat a lot.”
She giggles, “Eva you sure you're not a wolfy witch.”
I laugh, “I just like food.”
“But you don't gain an inch,” she states.
I shrug, “Just lucky.”
“Vincent and Eric you don't
have to eat to humor me,” she tells them.
They laugh. Vincent says, “It started out that way, but we can taste Eva's food.”
“Why?” she asks.
Eric says, “We don't really know. She's our mate and she loves to cook. That's all we know.”
She asks each of them, “When did you you know she was your mate?”
Vincent says, “First sight.”
“First time we spoke,” Eric tells her.
Sam says, “Smelled her before I saw her.”
“Holy shit, so love at first sight exists!” she squeals.
Vincent looks at me as he answers her, “It does.”
She smirks at me, “I told you, Eva!”
I roll my eyes, “Ugh just stop.”
“No. You've ran long enough. You let that slug Victor walk all over you after I told you over and over that he changed. Hell he made me forget our hangout one week now that I think about it. F*ck he's a vampire,” she declares.
Eric says, “Yes and a soon to be dead one.”
“Good he's garbage,” she says.
I tell her, “That week was the one that I busted him.”
“I should've helped,” she answers.
I tell her, “I would've liked a recording of those girls' faces though.”
Vincent says, “You know you can resurface that memory when we see him next.”
I grin, “Oh that will be fun.”
Katie says, “Wait you see vampires’ memories.”
I nod.
She asks, “Cool, can all witches?”
“I don't think so,” I say.
She smiles, “I'm glad the bastard will pay though. Karma!”
I laugh, “Yep.”
“Do witches die?” she asks.
I answer, “Yes just like a human, they only live a bit longer.”
“Because they're mostly human right?” she inquires.
I nod. I hear the guys chuckle in my head. I don't see the need to tell her the whole truth. I think the less people know the better.
She says, “It sucks I have to work and can't be around if you need me.”
“I will be fine. I will only be gone most of tomorrow,” I say.
Sam informs me, “Actually, it will be a few days.”
I cock my head, “Oh?”
He looks at me, “Traditions.”
This will be a learning experience for me. Plus a chance to see if all I have read is true or not.
Vincent sternly looks at Sam, “Remember.”
He nods, “I know. She will be safe.”
I look at Vincent and Eric, “You guys will watch Katie while I'm gone.”
“Yes, everything will be fine,” Eric says.
I inform the guys, “I'm going to start a jar and
charge you all for each time you say that to me.”
“Well stop letting your mind go there,” Vincent says.
I raise my eyebrow, “Make me.”
Katie says, “He can you know.”
I laugh, “Actually, he can't.”
He says, “Oh, I will find a way.”
“Thought you wanted a quiet house Vincent? Yet you go and provoke her,” Eric adds.
I smirk, “He secretly likes the chaos.”
“Just stop,” Vincent says.
I tease, “Awe hit a nerve.”
Sam chuckles and Vincent rounds on him, “Wolfman, you'll be changing your tune after a few days.”
Sam is still laughing, “I seriously doubt it. We will be too busy hunting and swimming.”
“Sam, I don't hunt for sport,” I say.
He assures me, “It'll be for dinner not sport. My pack never has hunted for sport.”
“Go enjoy that outdoors stuff. I'll enjoy the pool and the air conditioning,” Katie says.
I say to her, “You know while I'm gone you're going to have to cook.”
She giggles, “Nope, takeout it will be.”
Vincent shakes his head, “All you, Princess. I will eat leftovers.”
She asks Vincent, “Oh are famous people like you guys?”
He nods, “Yes some are.”
“Any musicians?” she inquires.
Eric says, “A few support mixed fans.”
“Neat so we could like go to a concert!” she exclaims.
Eric tells her yes. I tell her to let us handle Victor first and then we will make plans.
I am in awe of Katie. I feared the worst but got the best!
———-Katie’s POV————
The paranormal is real and I am living in one of their houses. This is so surreal.
Part of the is kinda jealous that Eva has not just found one love of her life but three! However, I'm more glad that she's
found real love. She deserves the happy ending that we all seek.
