I decided to make a summertime cake. I went for a Sangria cake. I like how they look and taste. This mindlink thing works great in the kitchen.
Sam says, “I'll take care of the dry ingredients.”
I take the wet. I like cooking with Sam it's effortless. There's no arguing over what or how to make something. I just say let's make this and we do.
We get the cake into the oven and the icing made. I set the timer. Sam has flour on his nose. It's cute
and I giggle.
“I thought only women powdered their noses,” I say.
He cocks his head, “What?”
He reaches towards his nose. I grab his hand and pull it and him down to
me. He's nearly a foot taller than me, but just so easily follows my
lead. I lick his nose. He growls and kisses me feverishly. He picks me up like I'm weightless and sits me on the kitchen island. He stands between my legs, never breaking the kiss. Our tongues dance heatedly with one another. His hands caress my
back, mine tunnel and tug on his hair.
He pulls back, “You taste sweeter than any confectionery treat.”
Then his lips claim mine again, this time greedily and hungrily.
He presses his body into mine. In my haste to dress after our swim,
neglected to wear any undergarments. I hope I don't leave behind any evidence of my mounting desire.
This is intense. All of my senses are heightened. I can sense, feel, and
hear his desire for me. I can smell it too. I open my eyes.
His blue eyes are twinkling with a swirling fire blazing where his pupils
should be. Suddenly the nearby fireplace sparks with a roaring fire. Startled we pull away.
The guys come running in. Eric says, “The fireplace in the living room caught fire.”
Just now Eric and Vincent spot me flushed on the counter staring at the fireplace across the huge room.
Vincent cockily says, “Fire now, huh?”
I'm a bit embarrassed by this, “Umm.”
Reassuringly Eric says, “No need to be embarrassed. We let you have privacy and you started a fire.”
“But I didn't mean to,” I reply.
Vincent’s tone changes to a more sympathetic one, “What led to it so we can better understand.”
I take a breath, “My senses are on overdrive. I've not felt anything like this
before you guys. I saw a fire in his twinkling eyes.”
Sam added, “Hers had the same.”
“Then poof, fire,” I say.
Eric says, “Well I guess we will be listening until you can control your abilities.”
I ask, “Is this just a me thing or a me plus a mate kinda thing?”
Eric thinks for a second, “Not sure, I've heard of mates strengthening each other, but bringing out abilities…no.”
I frown, “Oh.”
Vincent tells me to stop.
I say, “I didn't ask for any of this.”
Sam says, “Everything is fine,” just as Vincent does.
I smile at them for saying the same thing at the same time.
The guys all try to reassure me. I still question if this all can work out.
Eric says, “We'll work this out.”
Vincent adds, “You're doing great. You're
learning fast. All will be fine.”
I sigh, “Okay. But I feel like a child requiring constant supervision.”
Vincent smirks, “Well, you definitely could use an operator's manual.”
Eric rubs my back, “You're anything but a child. Just none of us know the extent of your abilities. It's safer for all of us if we keep our guards up.”
I nod. The timer goes off for the cake. I pull it out to cool. My mitt slips and I burn myself, “For fuckssake!”
I grab butter to put on it. It heals quickly and I wash my hands. I look at the guys, “That's gonna take getting used to.”
Sam says, “We all will deal with it.”
I tell them that I'm usually not a klutz just as Katie was coming into the kitchen.
Katie says, “I thought I smelled cake Why is there a fire going? It's like eighty degrees outside.”
I tell her, “The guys got bored waiting on me to bake so they had a little contest.”
I feel bad lying to her.
She asks, “Who won?”
Vincent smiles, “I did.”
“What did you win?” she inquires.
“A kiss from our chef,” he smirks.
I just shake my head and finish icing the cake. I cut it and plate it.
Katie exclaims, “Wow, this is amazing. What kind is it?”
I say, “Sangria cake.”
“Like with the wine?” she asks.
I nod.
“I need to get some stuff for classes tomorrow, but I'Il be home in time for dinner,” she says.
Vincent cockily looks at me, “See she called it home.”
I throw a bit of cake at him.
She says, “Hey the cake's too good to waste. Besides wherever my girl is that's home.”
I love her so much, “You're so corny sometimes.”
She smiles, “But it's true. We are each other's family. What are your plans for the rest of today?”
“Besides dinner and piecing together the article, I guess we are playing it by ear.
Why?” I say.
She replies, “I wanted to augment this lesson plan. The teacher just wants me to do a handout and a brief lecture. It's so boring. I want to engage the kids not put them to sleep.”
“I've always been more hands-on,” I say.
She nods, “Why I want your input. It's on water.”
“Like it's properties or uses?” I inquire.
She responds, “All of the above.”
“Well you could make a little demonstration exhibiting hydroelectric power. Make a wheel attach it to a battery and a light bulb kinda thing,” I suggest.
She nods and I offer more ideas, “A potato can work too but would take more explaining of how the water inside conducts the current. For tension it's pretty simple, give them all the same cup and pennies and have them see how many it takes to
make the cup sink and break the tension If you wanted to incorporate engineering in have them
design and then redesign the vessel to maximize buoyancy.”
She says, “You really should've been a teacher.”
“Nope don't have the patience,” I say.
She smiles, “Your ideas are always good, though.”
“I just think outside the norm as I myself am strange and unusual,” I laugh.
As she gets up, “And that's why I love ya.”
I grin, “Love ya too, now go. Dinner will be around 6.”
She waves bye and heads out.
I turn to the guys, “F*ck I hate hiding shit from her.”
Vincent tries to steer the conversation, “How do you come up with ideas that fast for her?”
I answer, “I loved my education but always found it lacking so I sort of enriched myself.”
Sam asks, “Who taught you to cook?”
I say, “No one. I just read the recipes somewhere and then just make it.”
Eric comments, “Photographic memory.”
I shrug.
Vincent adds, “Well damn, so you don't have to write it and burn it every time like you thought or at least when it comes to certain information that you wish to retain.”
Sam grins, “When we floated you said you thought of a feather, where was that from?”
I laugh. I love that they are trying to get to know me. I find myself wanting to know them better too. “A movie called The Craft. The girls chanted 'light as a feather, stiff as a board' to make a person levitate,” I tell them.
“The plates stacking?” Sam asks.
I grin, “Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo from Cinderella.”
We all laugh before Eric says, “Well seems like movies dealing with witchcraft spurs your powers. We can use them to see what you can do.”
I exclaim, “Hermione Granger has nothing on me now!”
Vincent doesn't look amused, “I was hoping for you to choose more of the classics but if you must.”
I glare at him, “Oh I must, I have read them all and seen the movies. I know the spells Just never thought they could be real or useful.”
Sam challenges me, “Do one.”
I hold up my pointer finger, “Lumus.”
The tip of my finger lights up
I point my finger at Sam, “Wingardium Leviosa.” He rises as I move my finger upward.
Chuckling, “This is awesome!”
I put him down, “Ok Vincent pickup that lamp and slowly approach me like you're going to hit me with it.”
He starts coming towards me. “Expelliarmus,” I say as I point my finger at him. The lamp goes flying out of his hand.
Eric says, “Now that will come in handy.”
I say, “Now someone lock a door.”
We walk to the guest bathroom and Vincent locks it. “Alohomora,” It unlocks and opens. “Now I need something that we don't mind dying.”
We go outside. There is an ant crawling on the railing of the porch.
I point to it, “Avada Kedavra.” There's a flash of light and it falls dead.
Eric exclaims, “Holy shit!”
“Scared?” I ask.
He says, “Of you no, I trust you. If there is anyone else that has this power, then I'm scared.”
I am starting to panic, “Why, why does anyone need this much power?”
Vincent takes my hand, “That's the question that scares me the most.”
I say, “I didn't ask for this. I don't want this.”
Eric says, “Maybe that's why you have it because you're a good person.”
“You're not going to abuse it Why fate gifted it to you and gifted us you,” Sam adds.
“You're not going to try to rule the world either,” Vincent says.
I sigh, “True I don't like people that much and don't have the patience for it.”
They laugh. I smile, “It's true.”
“Your powers work in the sun, that's another anomaly,” Vincent says.
I ask, “What am I?”
