Chapter 53 Chapter 53
The night was no longer young. In fact, Suki and Reynard had stayed out enjoying the party longer than either of them had planned, to the point where neither of them knew how many hours there were until morning.
Arriving at their accommodation, the pair were both mentally exhausted, but physically seemed to be running off the adrenaline of the party. They had no idea how much sleep they would be able to get before having to awaken at a decent hour to ensure they don’t overstay their welcome.
Suki sighed as she sat on the bed.
“Tired?” Reynard smiled, unbuckling and removing his leather pauldron.
She kicked off her shoes. “Tired of being in those heels all day,” she whined, massaging the base of her feet.
He tittered, “Surely you’re sleepy also.”
“Not really,” she said before yawning. “Well, maybe I was having too much fun with you to realise.”
Reynard smiled before cracking his neck and slowly began to unlace his leather arm gauntlets with one hand.
“Let me help you.” Back on her feet, Suki gently shoved his hands away and took over unlacing his gaunlets.
“You don’t have to do that.”
“I know, but I want to,” she said, smiling and looking up into his ocean-blue eyes. As she got lost in the depths of his eyes, her gaze softened, and her movements slowed. “Rey?”
He blinked, snapping out of being lost in her eyes. “Hm?”
She looked away, blushing, but then her attention diverted to the bed, and her brows furrowed as she scanned the entire room.
“What is it?”
“There’s only one bed,” she said in a questioning tone, looking back at him.
Rey chuckled, “No, your room is next door. You just followed me into my room.”
Her cheeks felt on fire. “Oh, sorry. I clearly wasn’t paying attention to my surroundings when we…” she cleared her throat, fumbling over her words as she finished untying his first gauntlet, placing it down on the bedside table and walked towards the door. “I’ll just–”
But Rey grabbed her, pinned her against the wall and kissed her passionately.
Suki hummed a moan against his lips, at first shocked by his suddenness but instantly melting into his touch.
He pressed his body against hers, trapping her further, even though she had no intention of escaping him. “Sorry, I’ve been wanting to do that all night. Especially after Hadeon was showing so much interest in you.”
“Don’t take what he was doing too seriously. He didn’t know I was bonded already, and he was curious about whether I was still looking for a mate; he was being polite.”
Arching a brow, Rey nuzzled into her neck, growling, “Well, next time he’s close to you like that again, I won’t be as polite as I was before.”
A chill ran down her spine. She smiled, shaking her head. “You get way more jealous than I realised, and you’re a lot more fiery and possessive too.”
“I tend to keep myself calm and content, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want to rip off your clothes right now and remind you who you belong to.”
Suki exhaled a whimper. Her breathing became heavy, and she realised she couldn’t hold herself back either. “Say that again…” She gripped tightly onto his shirt. “Tell me who I belong to.”
A hunger flickered in his eyes, one darker and more feral than either one of them would admit they had for each other, but it was there and ready to be set ablaze. “You…” Rey breathed, “You belong to me.”
No other words needed to be said. She grabbed his face and pulled him closer so their mouths collided once more.
Gripping her waist, Reynard hoisted her up, allowing her legs to wrap around him, all the while never breaking their kiss. He paced over to the bed and dropped her on it before climbing on top of her. Whipping off his top, he kissed her again and moved down towards her neck, kissing and sucking against her skin.
“Oh, Rey,” she moaned, tugging on his belt.
Rey grabbed her wrist, stopping her, and exhaled an irritated groan, “I can’t…” He moved back and rubbed his face. “I made a promise with Brendan not to do anything with you until you’ve made your choice. I wouldn’t want him to break it, so I have to honour it too.
Sitting up to sit on the edge of the bed, Suki expressed her regret, “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to–” she shook her head, disappointed in herself. “I didn’t mean for it to go this far. I just… I get lost in the passion of it all.”
“It’s the heightened emotions from our inner wolves and the bond itself,” Rey knelt in front of her and rested his hands on her legs. When she clearly refused to look at him, out of shame, he held her chin and made her look at him. “Talk to me, what’s on your mind?”
She chewed on her lip, unsure whether she should say it or not, but it wasn’t the right time. “I’m just… embarrassed, that’s all.”
“Is that really all?”
She gulped the lump in her throat and nodded.
‘Ki…’ he spoke weakly down the bond – it was his subtle way of telling her that he could feel that she was lying. Yet he didn’t pry any further; he feared he would be struck with news that would shatter his heart forever.
“Hey,” she cupped his face in her hands, “I can feel your emotions just as much as you can feel mine. I have no intention of doing anything to hurt you, I promise.”
Reynard took hold of her wrists and pulled them down, away from his face as he spoke softly, “I know. It’s just…” He paused for a moment, then sighed, “Never mind. We should get some rest.”
An aching pain hit her chest, but she didn’t argue with him to pry for an explanation, so she got up from the bed, adjusting her clothes before slowly walking to her room. “Goodnight, Rey.”
“Goodnight, Ki.”
