Chapter 65 65
CHAPTER SIXTY-FIVE
LUCIAN'S P.O.V
His voice sounded anxious, I became alert, my muscles tensing.
"What is it?"
"Alpha Desmond is alive and he's back." He hissed.
I almost dropped the phone. He was at the pack. Glancing at Aurora, I saw her lips trembling as she clenched her hands, face white.
"Continue."
"He suddenly arrived with a group of men and overpowered everyone. The whole pack is under his control, even your mom has been locked in her room."
"Shit! That bastard! I wished I really killed him."
"I know but right now you have to calm down. And also Lucian...I have another bad news."
"Yeah? What news could be worse than this?"
"He already branded you a rogue."
"A rogue? What the hell for!" I roared, Aurora flinched. "Sorry." I muttered and took a deep breath. "Go on."
"According to him, you aren't his biological son and you deserted the pack in favor of your mate, disobeying your alpha."
"So which means, even if I wanted to come back to they pack, I couldn't."
"Exactly. Look, he has no idea that I'm calling you right now."
"Then where are you?"
"In Talia's house. Her parents won't be back for another month so I felt it was a good idea to stay here. Be off the grid for a while just in case he decides to search for me."
I nodded in understanding.
"Is she there? I think Aurora would like to speak with her."
She looked at me, her face blank.
"Who?"
"Talia."
She squealed. "Yes! Can I talk to her?"
"Wait a minute! You found Aurora?! That's great." He exclaimed, "I've been trying to comfort her ever since she found out that she was missing."
"Well she's safe now, It turned out to be "him" that kidnapped her. She'll speak to you now." I brought the phone to her. "Say hi to Griffin."
"Hey Griffin!"
The phone was on speaker so it was loud enough for me to hear too. Even without that I would still be able to listen with my wolf senses.
"Hey Aurora. Its a huge bummer that Talia isn't here to finally hear your voice."
"Oh." Her face fell, her eyebrows furrowing with wrinkles. "Where is she?"
"She went for classes and I don't think she'll be back any time soon."
"Okay." She sucked her lower lip, a weak groan escaped me, she glanced at me in question but I simply shrugged it out. "Please tell her that I'm fine and perfectly okay. She shouldn't stress herself because of me...or else I'll smack her when I get back."
He chuckled dryly, knowing my best friend, I could tell he was worried but trying to be positive.
"Sure, I'll let her know."
"Alright Griffin, we have to go now, who knows he might send someone to start searching for us."
"Yeah, you're right. See you guys later....be safe."
"Yeah, you too."
I blew out a breath, my eyes narrowed as I ended the call. My mind was still processing this information and Mom kept on springing to mind.
"Lucian...are you alright?"
I turned to stare at her, she was watching me carefully with concern, her hands on my arm. I used my other hand to brush her cheek lightly.
"I'm fine, I'm just worried about mom...and the pack. Who knows what Desmond might do now? He already branded me a rogue there, I'm sure he's plotting something again. I just know it."
She pressed her lips together, not saying anything but her hands on mine spoke volumes for me and was already making me feel better. Just then, we heard a sudden loud whirring of a car engine.
"Huh? What's that?"
I muttered while scanning the area. Just ahead of us, a black sports car was speeding along the road, dust clouded and trailed behind it. And it was heading directly towards us. Shit!
"Get in the car. Now!" I barked to Aurora, pushing her toward the car with great urgency.
"O...okay!"
She didn't hesitate and quickly jumped into the passenger seat while I slid into the driver's seat. We put our seatbelts on, I started the engine, the now louder sound of the car roared behind us.
"Hold on, Aurora!" I yelled out, the car roared to life, the tires screeching as I sped off and took a sharp turn.
I drove like a demon but the car behind us was hot on our tail and even gaining on us. Before I knew it, the car's bumber was beside us, almost touching my car. Beside me, Aurora was clenching the seatbelt tightly, her knuckles white from the strain.
I'll protect you Aurora.
Suddenly, the other car rammed violently into us, she gasped as the impact sent us swerving wildly.
"Oh shit, Lucian...they want to kill us!" She cried softly, her voice trembling.
My grip on the steering wheel tightened as I fixed my eyes on the road ahead.
"Not if I kill them first." I gritted out.
I pressed hard on the accelerator, but the other car was damn relentless, the driver was hell-bent on running us off the road. I kept on driving, dust trailed like a storm cloud behind us. My eyes widened as I noticed that the road which I was driving led directly to a steep hill, from where I sat, I saw the road disappear into a sharp drop.
"Dammit! If we don't stop now or turn, we'll fall in. Hold on tight!" I shouted as I tried to stop the car from moving further.
Aurora screamed again, her white hands holding the seat as she buried her head down.
"Goddess help me!" I whispered fiercely.
Just as we were about a few distance from the steep hill, about to fall off, another black, shiny car suddenly appeared. At first, my heart sank, thinking it was another enemy, but then I was proven wrong. The new car suddenly rammed itself into the side of our pursuer. This caused the car to spin out of control. I watched as its wheels spun silently as it tipped over the edge. We faintly heard two different screams just as it plummeted down the hill and landed with a loud thud. A second later, a mushroom cloud of flames erupted from where it had fallen. They were gone. I stopped the car successfully, skidding to a stop just inches away from the edge. Aurora and I sat there panting, almost in disbelief at what just happened.
"What just happened? A...are we alive?"
She turned to ask me, her hair was wild and her eyes were wide with shock.
"I don't know." I panted, my eyes narrowing as I stared at the car, my chest heaving with exertion. "But...I think we just got saved."
She followed suit in staring at the car that had saved us. Its windows were tinted black which meant we couldn't see the driver. Then we saw the passenger and driver's seats door opening.
"Who do you think it will be?" She whispered.
"That's what I hope to find out." I answered back.
