Chapter 67 I Am Reporting My Whereabouts
Alexander still felt a bit regretful. He reached out and took a strand of Catherine's fallen hair, playing with it in his hand.
"If this were somewhere else, like abroad, their fate wouldn't be like this."
Abroad, he was Nightfall, the feared leader of a killer organization. People who fell into his hands usually had only one fate!
Death!
The Smith family should be grateful they had raised Catherine for almost nineteen years. Otherwise, what they'd face wouldn't be this simple!
Alexander squinted slightly, reaching out to block the sunlight from Catherine's eyes so she could focus on him.
"I want to bankrupt the Johnson family. Do you mind?"
"Why would I mind?"
What did the Johnson family have to do with her?
Even though Lucas had a marriage arrangement with her when they were kids, that engagement was with the Smith family's daughter, not with her.
"You don't need to tell me what you want to do. If you want to bankrupt the Johnson family, aren't you already doing it?"
Catherine felt speechless at this point.
What was wrong with Alexander?
Every day, no matter what he did, he'd send her messages - photos of his meals, videos of business meetings, even telling her who he met. If she didn't reply, he'd call to ask!
She had no choice but to reply with a sentence or two whenever Alexander sent messages. Back and forth like this, she basically knew everything Alexander did each day.
Alexander laughed.
This heartless girl - he told her everything he did. Didn't she know what that meant?
"I'm reporting my whereabouts to make my fiancée feel secure, and also to make you think of me. Since you don't have the habit of thinking about me, I can help you develop it!"
Catherine wasn't used to having him around yet. That was fine!
He would make her get used to it little by little!
"Ethan sent me a message hoping I'd give up Moon's consultation rights. What do you think?"
"Can't you use a different way to address me?"
Always calling her that - soon the whole world would know she was his fiancée. Catherine felt embarrassed.
"Sure, then how about baby? Darling? Other terms work too, but I'd prefer to use them after marriage."
Catherine felt helpless.
"Fine, call me whatever you want. How much is Ethan offering?"
"You're willing to treat him?"
Catherine nodded. Ethan still had the director of Angel's Haven Orphanage. She needed to find the person to investigate the truth about what happened back then. For a family like the Windsor family, she didn't believe a child could be switched so easily.
Plus with Juniper's situation, that doctor who thought himself so humanitarian also came from Vinehill Hospital!
These things must be hiding bigger secrets. Catherine had to find out the truth.
"Got it. I'll contact Ethan, but I have one condition."
"What?"
Alexander put one hand around Catherine's slender waist, pulling her closer to him until they were almost pressed together, looking very intimate. Even the air around them became charged.
"When you go see Ethan, you must take me with you!"
"If Ethan sees you, he'll probably lose it."
Ethan just wanted to see Moon to treat his brother, not meet the leader of Shadow Syndicate, okay?
"Just use a different identity. He doesn't know who I am. I don't want my fiancée spending too much time alone with another man. I'll get jealous."
Catherine felt helpless.
She was a doctor going to see a patient. What was there to be jealous about?
Alexander must have something wrong with his brain!
"When I did surgery on your grandfather, I took off his clothes and touched his chest. Go ahead and be jealous about that."
Alexander's expression changed dramatically. Catherine's words left him completely speechless, and he looked unusually embarrassed for once.
Catherine's eyes showed some mischief.
Esme lay in the ICU bed and slowly woke up.
"Ms. Windsor, you're awake. You can be transferred to a regular room now."
"How did I get here?"
The nurse made notes while speaking: "Don't you remember? Last night you insisted on swimming from the port back to Tranquil County. You choked on water, and Philip brought you to the hospital. Now that you're awake, you're fine."
Esme was shocked!
She wanted to swim back to Tranquil County from the sea?
How did she not know about this!
It was clearly Philip who suddenly appeared and ruined her good opportunity. Otherwise, the one billion dollars would all be hers now!
Philip showed up because he didn't want her to make money and didn't want her to steal Catherine's spotlight. It seemed she needed to find some other business on the dark web.
The nurse pushed her bed and glanced downstairs.
"That looks like Alexander's car. Alexander is so devoted, coming to the hospital every day to see Felix."
Right! Alexander!
If Alexander saw her looking so fragile and tearful, he'd definitely be attracted to her. As long as she could make him feel some sympathy, she could tell Alexander how terribly the Windsor family treated her.
The nurse left after bringing Esme to the regular room.
Esme quietly left and headed toward Felix's room.
Marcus and Felix were sitting downstairs playing chess with some old men with white beards and hair. That meant Alexander was alone in the room now!
Esme got more excited thinking about it and quickened her pace. When she reached the room door, she even pulled at her clothes and unbuttoned a few buttons...
"Alexander, I'm here."
On the balcony, Alexander had his arm around Catherine's waist, leaning close to her ear to talk. Catherine would reply occasionally, looking very harmonious.
Hearing that sweet, cloying voice, Alexander looked up with some displeasure.
"Get lost!"
Esme was shocked.
How could Catherine be here! And hugging Alexander! How shameless.
Coming to the hospital to seduce Alexander before even marrying him - people with no upbringing were really like this. If she hadn't been here ruining her chance, the person Alexander would be holding now would be her.
Andrew rushed up, hoisted Esme over his shoulder and ran off, completely ignoring her screams, quickly removing her from the room.
He even closed the room door on his way out.
Catherine was silent.
Andrew's movements looked very practiced, as if he'd dealt with Esme more than once or twice. He was used to it.
"Does she come often?"
"I have nothing to do with her. You have to believe me."
Catherine didn't say anything.
Who he had relationships with - what did that have to do with her?
"I don't allow her to come see Mr. Howard, but after all, Grandpa is here too. She's from the Windsor family. I can't control it."
Every time Esme used the excuse of visiting Marcus to bother Felix, Andrew would chase her away. Over time, Andrew would rush up and chase her away as soon as he saw her. His movements were quite practiced.
Catherine nodded. "I'll have Andrew block her directly from now on. She doesn't need to see Marcus either."
Esme might still have Vitality Pills. If she slipped them into Marcus's medicine when he wasn't paying attention, that would be trouble. Better to just be cautious.
"Tell Ethan to trade the director of Angel's Haven Orphanage. I want them alive."
Alexander understood what she meant. "Just asking for a person isn't quite right."
Just asking for a person would make Ethan notice some clues about Catherine's identity. That wasn't good.
"Just add some money randomly. One billion dollars - how about that? It's a bit little, but I checked Ethan's assets. Any more money wouldn't be very clean."
"Okay."
Alexander held her hand and bent down to place a kiss on the back of it.
"I'll pick you up tomorrow. Remember to wait for me."
