Chapter 247 Charles Collapses
Catherine didn't look up, but her hands pressed harder.
"Keep staring, and I don't mind making you hurt for a few more days."
Alexander turned around and used his other hand to grab a light jacket, draping it over Catherine's shoulders.
"You're too captivating."
He had been inappropriate, but every time he saw her, Alexander found that his usually prized self-control meant nothing at all!
Catherine put on the jacket, rebandaged Alexander's wound, and tied a knot.
"All done."
Catherine skillfully cleaned up the blood-stained bandages and sprayed air freshener in the room to remove the smell of blood.
Only then did Alexander answer Catherine's earlier question.
"Not tricky at all. If they want the CEO position at the Howard Group, let them have it! After all, the CEO is just a doormat working for the board. I don't mind taking a break for a while."
As the largest shareholder of the Howard Group, Alexander's shares were what truly gave him absolute power at the Howard Group!
But if anyone wanted what he had, they'd better see if they had what it takes to try and take it!
This would also give him some time to spend with his fiancée!
"Are you going to school tomorrow? Will you be staying at home?"
"Yes, Charles handled the paperwork for me. I won't be boarding."
The Windsor family couldn't bear to part with Catherine, and since the school was close to the Windsor Mansion, Aurora couldn't stand the thought of Catherine cramped in a small dorm with several roommates.
So she simply had Charles arrange for Catherine to commute daily back to the Windsor Mansion.
There were still many things to handle with Galactic Aurora Collective and Faceless Ones, and staying at school wouldn't be convenient!
After dropping Catherine off at school, Aurora and Brandon got on a plane abroad, starting their romantic getaway.
Alexander was quite satisfied with this arrangement too. If Catherine stayed at school every day, it would be even harder for him to see her. He couldn't very well wait downstairs at the school, could he?
But thinking about that scenario, Alexander felt it might not be so bad after all.
"How about I pick you up and drop you off at school?"
Catherine glanced at him. "It's just a few minutes away. Not necessary."
"Of course it's necessary. You don't have a driver's license, so getting home on your own is inconvenient. You're not going to look down on me for being unemployed lately, are you?"
He was recently unemployed because he had set up the situation himself and thrown the company matters out there, hadn't he?
Everyone knew the Howard Group was still his to command. Even Felix was working for Alexander at the company now!
When the Howard family members actually took over the company, they'd discover Alexander had left them a pile of problems to deal with.
Whether they'd grit their teeth and use their own money to handle it, or voluntarily return the power, either way they'd suffer major losses.
Catherine was just now realizing that Alexander was cunning to the extreme!
Catherine asked, "Haven't the people at Shadow Syndicate ever said you're ruthless?"
Alexander laughed, propping his head up with his uninjured hand, gazing intently at Catherine.
"Whatever the people at Faceless Ones say about you, the people at Shadow Syndicate say about me. On this point, we're well matched."
In fact, he thought they were well matched in many ways!
"I heard you played the violin today. Too bad I wasn't there. I really hope I won't miss things like this in the future."
"It was all accidental."
She hadn't prepared to go on stage beforehand.
Catherine didn't even consider Lyra's crude tactics worth her attention.
But judging by Franklin's setup, he was determined to get her up there.
Catherine didn't understand what the point of doing that was!
Franklin, someone so calculating and methodical, wasn't the type of elderly person who insisted on watching children perform.
"Won't you still be studying near Franklin? Whatever he wants to do, you'll find out eventually."
Alexander took a hairdryer from the bathroom and beckoned to Catherine.
"Come here."
"What are you doing?"
Pulling Catherine's hand to sit beside him, Alexander gently massaged Catherine's scalp with his uninjured hand as the hairdryer's warm air fell on her hair.
He was helping her dry her hair?
Their shadows fell on the window—Alexander holding a small hairdryer, carefully helping her dry her hair.
Those hands that signed billion-dollar acquisition contracts, that held guns to blow enemies' heads off, or that stirred up storms in the unseen, treacherous underworld.
But at this moment, they were doing something ordinary yet extraordinary!
Alexander's movements were careful and gentle, afraid of pulling Catherine's hair.
Her hair was smooth and silky, delicate as satin, requiring enough patience to dry completely.
"You don't need to do this. I can do it myself."
"Then consider it a reward for your successful performance today."
A reward?
The Windsor family had indeed given her many rewards. Before boarding the plane, Brandon had grandly bought Catherine many violins and said he'd personally make one for her.
But the Windsor family treated her like the youngest child in the family!
"I'm not a little kid. I don't need this kind of reward."
Alexander stopped the hairdryer, bent down close to Catherine's face, their breaths mingling, the distance quite close.
His gaze held a tenderness softer than moonlight.
"You're right. You're not a kid anymore."
"So, may I pursue you? In an adult way."
Catherine's heartbeat became irregular. Meeting Alexander's flawlessly perfect face and his burning, passionate eyes, she felt somewhat at a loss for words.
Alexander's fingertips caressed Catherine's face. "Although we have an engagement, I want to use my own way to make you accept me."
The process might be difficult, but he was willing to make any effort to win over the girl he loved!
"Can you give me a chance, and give yourself a chance to understand your own heart?"
If Catherine's heart held him, he hoped she could see his heart!
If not, then he would make sure her heart and eyes held only him!
Meeting those deep eyes, as if all the devotion and favoritism of the entire universe had fallen into them—even a deity couldn't bear to refuse him!
Catherine's eyelashes trembled slightly.
"Okay."
The next morning.
Seeing Alexander walk out of Catherine's room, Charles's eyes went wide!
Had Alexander been in Catherine's room all night?
Although he'd seen Alexander go to Catherine late at night, and had restrained himself from interrupting when he heard no calls for help from Catherine.
But now seeing Catherine and Alexander come out together, Charles couldn't stay calm.
"What's going on with you two? Mr. Howard, don't tell me you were in Catherine's room all night?"
Alexander smiled warmly, refined and easygoing.
"That's right. I helped Catherine dry her hair last night, and Catherine said it was too late, so she didn't let me leave. I imposed for the night."
Catherine gave him a light glance. "You were the one who shamelessly refused to leave."
Claiming his wrist was injured and he couldn't climb down the balcony, he'd rather rough it on her sofa for the night than leave.
Seeing Catherine didn't object, Charles couldn't take it anymore!
Brandon and Aurora had just left on their trip, and Alexander had already made himself at home!
