Chapter 159 Juniper Suspects Catherine's Other Identity
Aurora and Bethany were completely stunned!
Who would have thought that the person who raised Catherine was actually Marcus's first love!
Philip thought for a moment, "Catherine, Elodie's coffin is at the Smith family's old house, right? Should we move it to our family cemetery?"
Looking at Marcus like this, Elodie must have been a very important person to him.
Catherine shook her head, "No need, Elodie liked it there. I don't want to disturb her rest."
Marcus nodded along.
"That's right, Elodie always loved mountains and rivers. Having a maple tree to keep her company would make her very happy."
Back then, he and Elodie first met under a huge maple tree. That shower of maple leaves has stayed in his heart all these years and never faded!
Marcus's eyes were full of memories. He took off his glasses to wipe the tears from the corners of his eyes, looking at Catherine hopefully.
"Can you send me copies of these photos?"
Catherine nodded, "Grandma seemed to have recorded a video before she passed away, but it should be stored at The Smith Villa. I'll find time to go get it."
She only found out about the video when opening the safe.
At the end of the letter Elodie wrote to her, there was a note telling Catherine that she had recorded a video and stored it at The Smith Villa.
Marcus thought for a moment and told Catherine about the trending topics online.
"From the looks of it, this was done by the Smith family. Catherine, tell me, who was your grandma's partner?"
Asking about such things at his age made Marcus feel a bit embarrassed, but fortunately no one in the family meant to laugh at him!
Catherine shook her head, "No partner. Elodie always raised me by herself. Grandpa, Oliver isn't even my grandma's biological child - she adopted him."
Hearing this, Marcus unconsciously breathed a sigh of relief, then muttered quietly.
"Thank goodness, if that idiot was really her biological son, when I die and she finds out I had someone beat up her son, wouldn't she curse me to death?"
"Grandpa, what did you say?"
Marcus quickly shook his head, saying he didn't say anything!
Philip stroked his chin.
"The Smith family people are not good people. They're not good to Catherine, and they weren't good to Elodie either. Catherine can't go get the things. If she really goes to their house and runs into danger, what then? We need to think of a way to make them deliver the things on their own."
Bethany also didn't agree with Catherine going to The Smith Villa. Looking at Philip, "How do we get them to deliver it? Would Oliver be willing?"
With his stingy and greedy nature, if he knew the thing they wanted was important to Marcus, would he be willing to deliver it on his own?
Philip patted his chest, raising his eyebrows confidently, "Don't worry, I'll figure something out!"
Bethany knew Philip had the most tricks up his sleeve - who knows what scheme he had cooked up in his head.
"Alright then, just be careful not to harm Catherine in the process."
Catherine looked at Marcus and asked, "Grandpa, you said my grandma deceived you. What happened?"
Marcus sighed.
He hadn't figured it out himself!
"Elodie and I had a very good relationship back then, but once when I came back from a mission, she was lying on the ground covered in blood. I rushed her to the hospital, and then she died!"
"All these years, I thought she had long passed away. If I had known she was still alive..."
Marcus didn't continue.
"Then how did you end up marrying Lila?"
As Marcus spoke, he pondered all the events from back then, and his eyes gradually darkened!
He hurriedly got up and went to his study, pulling out a thick stack of receipt stubs from a tall cabinet. Finally, he picked up one receipt, looking at the information that had worn so thin it was barely readable.
"I remember Elodie was sent to Vinehill Hospital by me. Sure enough, that's it."
Catherine was startled.
Vinehill Hospital again?
"Back then Elodie died at Vinehill Hospital. I should have buried her properly, but suddenly there was an urgent mission from above - a district in the neighboring county had collapsed after an earthquake and needed rescue. So I asked Samuel to bury Elodie."
Speaking of this, Marcus remembered Samuel's hesitant expression every time he looked at him!
Marcus finally understood now - they had conspired to deceive him!
"No, I need to go find Lila and get to the bottom of this. What exactly have they all been hiding from me!"
Lila was the instigator of this whole thing, no doubt about it.
Watching Marcus storm off, Bethany worried something might happen to him and quickly followed.
"Dad, wait for me!"
Catherine watched Marcus and Bethany's backs, thoughts suddenly swirling in her mind!
Bethany wasn't Lila's child, but she was definitely Marcus's child. So did Marcus and Elodie have a child back then?
Bethany and Elodie's features did look somewhat similar from certain angles, but there were plenty of people who looked alike - that wasn't enough evidence.
Catherine returned to her room, picked up her phone, and opened Moon Laboratory's internal system.
[Run a DNA test to verify if Sample D and Sample H have a direct blood relationship. Contact me when the results are ready.]
[Yes.]
A message from Alkaid came in - an audio file.
Oliver's voice came through: "Arrange for some people to cause a car accident on Catherine's way to work. Make it look like an accident."
"She took such valuable treasures from my mom and wants to hide them? What if she sells them herself? That won't do!"
"That belongs to the Smith family! If Catherine is so inconsiderate, then let her have an accident. I've already found a buyer for the bracelet."
Catherine closed the video and pressed her temples.
Alkaid's call came through: "Boss, did you see that video just now? Has Oliver gone crazy! He actually wants to hire someone to cause a car accident and kill you."
Oliver probably would never imagine that the hospital was run by Galactic Aurora Collective, with high-definition surveillance installed by Galactic Aurora Collective in every corner.
It just happened to capture him hiding away and discussing hiring someone to kill Catherine!
Catherine said calmly, "Then tell him my route to work."
"Okay!"
"Also, find out who contacted him to buy that bracelet. I suspect they're all people who knew Elodie before."
Originally Catherine thought Elodie was just a gentle and kind village woman and never thought much about it.
She didn't expect her grandma had almost become Marcus's wife.
Looking at it this way, Elodie's social circle back then probably wasn't bad either - at least Felix and Samuel were both her friends!
Alkaid cheerfully agreed: "Okay, yes ma'am!"
Faced with such a subordinate, Catherine felt quite troubled.
"Watch fewer TV dramas. Get lost."
On the other side.
At Phoenix Lab, Juniper put on a new lab coat and strode into her office.
Evander glanced at her, "Didn't I give you time off? You like working overtime that much?"
"Catherine went back, and I have nothing to do if I'm not doing experiments."
Anyway, no matter what she was doing, her mind was full of experiments. Even when reviewing before bed, it was experimental data. Taking time off would leave her with nothing to do.
Juniper picked up the experimental data Catherine had left behind and suddenly leaned in to smell it.
The paper had a very faint lingering fragrance that seemed familiar, like she had smelled it somewhere before.
The more Juniper thought about it, the more something felt off. She simply got up and walked out of the lab, dialing Alkaid's number.
Juniper frowned slightly, getting straight to the point: "Hello, I'd like to ask, what's your boss's name? Does she know me? Or, do I know her?"
